The counselor that I was assigned attempted to counsel me while driving and using her GPS at the same time very unprofessional

I was at a very bad place when I reached out to Betterhelp. I was seeing these ads about free trials etc. When I signed up and got mached with a therapist I started by saying that I was in a very bad place financially that I wasn’t going to be able to go to university unless I received a scholarship. I described how it stressed me out and made me experience depression amd how I was even considering taking my own life or hurting myself. The response I got was that to start therapy I needed to pay the price. It is very unethical for a therapist to claim a free trial and then reject help because they refused to pay before the free trial. I would get that if there weren’t any free trial thing going on and they would refuse to do the therapy buy even then it is very unethical to just shut down on a person who is talking about self-harm and suicide. You cannot see a real life therapist kicking a client that just mentioned suicide and self-harm. They need to make sure the person will not actually kill themselves after the session, contact some authorities maybe amd refer them to someone who can afford. I am now studying psychology thanks to the scholarship I received, and I see how unethical that was and at the time I was just thinking it was because I was a piece of useless, poor thing and I didn’t deserve any help. If this happened to someome in a more serious condition then me it could have had much more serious consequences.

Cannot overstate how terrible an experience I had. I would highly recommend you stay away from this site and seek help through a different avenue. After handing over upwards of $200 I was matched with a “professional.” When I talked to her I told her I suffered with depression and excoriation disorder. She was unfamiliar with the latter diagnosis which is annoying but it’s happened to me before. When I explained the diagnosis to her (which in itself is a failure that I had to do that) she told me that she couldn’t treat me. Frustrated, I switched therapists and luckily found a man who seemed to be eager to listen to me and treat me. But, the next day I tried to log in to my account and I wasn’t allowed. I emailed asking what’d happened and I got an email back from the company saying “online therapy isn’t suitable for everybody.” When I mentioned I’d found a more knowledgeable therapist on their site who was eager to treat me, they said there was nothing I could do and I was no longer allowed to use the site. I’m sure some of the therapists on there are wonderful, but BetterHelp as a company doesn’t take responsibility for the quality of care they provide and need to be held accountable. Also, see this video for some information on how they use marketing tactics to take advantage of vulnerable people seeking help. Search “pewdiepie betterhelp” on google. It’s the first video that comes up.

I’ve had a good therapist as she is helping me a lot. The company as a whole I don’t like, you email them questions and they change the subject. I emailed several times to ask how much I need to pay and when it’s due and getting nowhere. I was due 2 extra free weeks and never received them.

I started Betterhelp. I was on it for 4 days before I decided to cancel. Reason for cancelling was because my counselor wasn't counseling. She didn't offer to set up a time within the week to chat or even ask how I would prefer to chat. She said tell me whats' going on. I did. She said, "Thanks for sending, I will reply once I've processed the information." She then sent me a worksheet which I did. She sent me a sheet to read. That was it. She never responded to my issues like she said she would. So after 4 days I decided to quit. I received no counseling. I reached out to Better help to cancel and pay for 4 days of "service" and they said they'd have to charge me for the week and i could use it for another 3 days. I explained I was not liking my counselor. Why would I want more worksheets from her? They never responded back, they ignored me. Waste of $65. I feel duped and cheated. Terrible service.

Terrible experience with Betterhelp. The first “therapist” ( And I use that term incredibly lightly) just wanted me to fill out questionnaires and forms instead of helping me with my problems. When I took it upon myself to explain what I felt was nothing me she just said “Well that sounds complicated” and moved onto the next form to fill out. The second “therapist” was incredibly rude and instead of helping, questioned my “clout” as a man. I explained to her that I couldn’t afford he 270$ to voice chat with her and she was incredibly annoyed that we could only use text chat. There was no third “therapist”. If anything this experience has made my symptoms worse. I tried contacting Betterhelp to receive a refund for the money I spent on their horrible service but never heard back. I assume they have nothing to lose now as their scam worked and they have my money. Sadly if you are in need of help it would be better to just pay the money for an actual therapist. Please stay away from this website.

Every night I am haunted by that day when everything went dark and I lost everything. My best friend betrayed me, my girlfriend cheated on me, all my friends died and yet, Betterhelp promised to help me. Oh, how I was so wrong! I'm still empty inside...
