I got a 7 day free trial for nothing, I wrote detailed messages sharing my feelings and issues after her asking and waisted my time and hope. Antoniette Edwards didn't have any availability in 9 days so obviously I could't get a session with her and try the service. I told her I needed help and about the situation hoping she would give me a solution or at least some advice and she replied with a cold "I understand. Be well." I am so diappointed and uninvited to continue or even pay for this service. What a terrible attitude to be a counselor. Better Help does not care about you, it cares about money upfront.

Please beware of this site. I think they be are involved with fraud or there is a third party pulling some strings behind the scenes. This is the email I sent to Betterhelp discribing my issue: Good afternoon, I am very concerned. I requested to talk to a counselor on May 28th. When I signed up for service, I was taken to a screen that said I would be charged 45 dollars for a subscription. Soon after subscribing, I received an email from PayPal saying that I had been charged 180 dollars. That is a lot of money. However I thought talking to a licensed therapist would be worth the money if only for a month. So I wrote a detailed message of introduction to the counselors hoping that I would be paired up with someone. Nothing happened. About two days later I received an email from someone named Russell from community support. He said sorry there's a delay. They're looking for a counselor for me. A couple days later, I got a message from a person named Terry Johnson. It seemed like a premade email. It was about his certifications and his approach. I responded back to his email with more information about how I was feeling. I also asked him to give me feedback on my original message and this new message I had just sent. He responded back with a questionnaire about my goals. I don't mind talking about goals, but I have this service for just a month and I'm actually looking for direct feedback to issue I was having. But I filled out the goals. Then Terry Johnson writes back and says how can we accomplish this goal this week. He did not mention the two other detailed messages I sent. I had enough of the service at Betterhelp, so I contacted Russell and told him I wanted to cancel my membership and the reason why. I went back to the Betterhelp homepage and tried to log in. It said my account did not exist. Originally when I created an account I was prompted to create a pin. So I had been logging in with the pin. This situation seems very suspicious. I want to know what happened. I have contacted PayPal and requested a refund for services from Betterhelp. I was charged 180 dollars from Betterhelp and I have yet to receive any counseling or help. I do not trust your service at all. It seems like fraud.

Terrible experience I registered hoping to address some self-esteem problems which have existed since childhood. The first counsellor I got matched to was in a different time zone (sessions 2am onward) and sent me a few workbooks to fill out, which she didn’t read or address at all. We texted through the platform, about 1.5 weeks in she finally asked me something about myself which wasn't "how's your day been", seemed to read my workbook, then told me that I might be better suited to a different counsellor. The second counsellor I chose myself because I thought her expertise was suited to the help I needed. As a student in counselling myself, and as someone that has been through therapies with multiple counsellors in the past, her behaviour was appalling. To provide some examples without recounting the session: looked down on me for planning to immigrate to her country, advised me against my plans for the future, told me there's no reason for anyone to be unemployed, jumped to conclusions about my husband, told me he's a loser and advised me to leave him--before telling me my distortions in my thinking are pervasive and I need serious help beyond BetterHelp, thus ending the session less than 15mins in. In case anyone else reading this has been through something similar with a counsellor: Counsellors are specifically taught not to give value judgements about the client's life, relationships and their plans. Clients are supposed to lead the session with the counsellor as a supporter of positive growth. There are good counsellors out there, and not everyone working as a counsellor should be one. To the credit of BetterHelp, their administrators were lovely, provided a full refund and I was able to file a report against the relevant counsellor. Wanted to put this out there in case it helps anyone.

Not as advertised. Received generic responses then silence.

The service was advertised as an accessible and affordable alternative to in-person therapy. Unfortunately, my counsellor from the jump was slow to respond. When responding she copied and pasted some of her previous responses and provided no feedback on the information I shared with her. I had to prompt her to provide feedback and her replies were generic and, as I mentioned before, copy-pasted. She didn't directly address or even acknowledge any of the deeply personal things I shared, which feels like a kick in the teeth. In addition, she didn't have any bookable phone/video appointments for two weeks since I signed up. I feel this is too long to wait when the messaging responses are so unhelpful. I feel deeply disappointed and upset by this experience. I felt so hopeful when I first signed up to the service that I could actually get the help I needed, now I wish I hadn't paid the money up front. I'm only trying again with another counsellor because I've already paid for the month and I don't want to waste the money, but I wish I'd never signed up in the first place.

absolutely worst experience. I am a broke uni student looking for some online counselling. I am only free in the night time - which is when they are all unacitve (which was not stated anywhere), and i am serverly depressed and need someone to talk to. One of the reasons is my financial situation, which i was unaware they sweeped $260 straight from my bank account !!!!!!!!! they only ever stated before i put my bank details in that i was paying $60- which is a huge investment for me. i am begging them for a refund but they arent helping out since theyre not open and functioning after 5pm. extremely disappointing and i do not recommend to anyone - especailly those who are suffereing as it is.

This is a joke ! All the reviews must be fake. Because I have signed up and paid. And have yet to receive but the automated msg from my counsellor. You have to book. Sessions a week and a half in advance. This is not a 24/7 service. No one will be available at night. And you don't get responses regardless. This is a money scam. They probably pay people to write good reviews. With the money people invest. Still working on getting my money back as it's an empty service.

Terrible. It’s hit or miss. You can send multiple messages to betterhelp but they don’t respond. If you get an actually good counselor you’re lucky (it also means you don’t have to deal with betterhelp staff who are absent from responding) but if you get a bad counselor like I did who never showed up to our first meeting and checked on me with an automated message the following week but when I confronted her about the missed session she ignored, then good luck
