This is the worst online counseling service. They say you'll find a counselor in seconds after signing up. But, that's a lie, after you fill out the sign up form, they can decide if you're too far gone (TOO severe) for their services. Too severe should not be a thing. Everyone should be allowed to receive help, especially if they're signing up for it. You can't deny someone help when they ask for it, even if it's online (what if that's their only way?). - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SITE!

After agreeing to a subscription of $55 a month for 4 months, rounding up to over $200, I got an email saying that I would have to pay again in July and that $200 was for “one month after getting matched with a therapist”. So I canceled the subscription right away. I am so upset that they worded their subscription in a way that made it seem like I was getting a great deal for months of counseling. But they lied to me. Don’t trust them.

They tricked me into paying $234 for ONE month’s session. Even after I applied for the “financial aid” they still tricked me. I agreed to $234 (around $55 a month) for June-September. But after paying for my subscription they said I would be charged again in July. HOW?! So I canceled the subscription not even 15 minutes after signing up! I have sent 3 messages and 2 emails within 48 hours of canceling and have still heard nothing back yet. I’m disgusted.

I signed up for this service and was matched with a therapist. During our first session she asked me really abrupt and personal questions rather than building a rapport first, misunderstood my questions about how the system works and then gave me a CBT worksheet as homework without us discussing my past experience with CBT or if I felt it would be the right method for me. She ended the session after 22mins. I decided to try it for the full month before judging if it could work for me. She didn’t show for the second session. I cancelled. Save your money for a proper therapist who will build a relationship of trust with you.

When I signed up for BetterHelp I paid for the first month upfront and had not tried therapy before. Firstly I noted phone sessions were few with the closest available being two weeks away. They were also only half an hour slots instead of an hour. My first call with my therapist consisted of them asking me the same question repeatedly and watching TV incredibly loudly in the background. As I tried to think of answers I had to listen to an action movie.. this was my first experience of therapy and it could not have been less helpful. That night I emailed customer service to complain and ask for a full refund as the service is unacceptable. I received a reply quickly the following day asking me to cancel my counselling within the app and then they would of course refund in full. I emailed straight back confirming I had cancelled and to please refund. It has now been over a week with no reply to my further emails. This is actually causing me more stress and I’m incredibly disappointed that after promising a refund you are ignoring my emails!

Don’t waste your time or money. They matched me with a therapist that over shared, barely let me talk, DIAGNOSED (not legal for a therapist’s credentials) my mother with narcissism, in her FIRST message to me. She doesn’t even know me or my family at that point. Super unprofessional. She used our phone sessions as therapy for her, and even tried to side hustle me & have her flown out & put up in a hotel on my dime, separate from the company to do EMDR. How insulting to be side sold when you’re trying to just get the service you are promised. This company does not vet people well, nor do they care. It’s all about money.

The therapist I was assigned was a no show for our first session. I just sat and waited for 30 minutes. This is especially frustrating because you pay everything up front on a monthly basis so if you have this happen to you there is no recourse.

It’s a quick fix from counselors who try to downplay your suffering when they don’t know how to help you. I had three counselors in betterhelp, they were almost always late, one was racist, and the third claiming to have Experience OCD Didn’t know about its basics and none of the three “therapists” had any degree above the masters nor did they bother with reading the assignments at all, they all completely ignored my question on whether they read it or not. If you are feeling down or need someone to listen go for it, although the prices aren’t worth it in that case, but if you are quarantined or live in a place where you can’t get decent therapy STAY AWAY it’s a joke.
