My account got cancelled and I was refunded before anyone could contact me... What was the point of promising me help and taking my payment if you were simply going to reject me for no good reason? I have severe social anxiety and online counselling was my only option. This was the first time in 10 year that I've asked for help, and I was rejected. I doubt I will ever ask for help again thanks to your rejection. This has devastated me, thanks for nothing :(

Counselors
It has been frustrating finding a counselor and I’m going on 4 days paying for this service, and 2 counselors later, I have to switch again. The first welcomed me by sending an article. Never spoke to me about what I needed, just sent a lengthy article to read. If people could just read articles to work as therapy, they would, but it doesn’t work that way. Second counselor wrote a welcome message and asked what I wanted out of this and expressed how busy she was and most likely won’t have time to video conference, and I said I would be ok with just messaging, and then she never responded! I waited over 24 hours to hear anything and got nothing but crickets.

My counselor was a bot sending plagiarized messages from the internet
I’ve been scammed by what appears to be a bot posing as a counselor on here. The counselor does not take calls or video calls; she takes 3-4 days to reply to messages and most of them appear to be copy and pasted. After the last message she sent I realized she didn’t even read the message I sent her! So, I copied parts of her message into a plagiarism checker and guess what! 59% of her words are plagiarized from netdoctor UK !! Is this sincere counseling? NO, it's copy and paste.
To check just how much was plagiarized, I ran the message through an online plagiarism checker and FIFTY-NINE percent of the message was plagiarized! This is not a professional counselor, this is a bot. I attached the report to this message.
Betterhelp really sold me on the idea that even though I’m far away from home, I could be connected with a trusted, caring counselor that could help me. I’m so heavily disappointed by this experience.. it took so much will for me to seek out counseling and now this. I don't recommend Betterhelp to anyone!

Counselor - amazing Platform - terrible
My counselor was amazing, BetterHelp itself is a nightmare.
My counselor and I had frequent technical issues (her being unable to log in or start a video call, frequent audio from another source playing in the background (it sounded like a radio show?)). She missed a session on 8/14 due to technical issues and hasn't been able to log on to respond to me since. When I reached out to support with this information to see if they could help, they implied I was upset because I hadn't communicated my expectations for frequency of contact, suggested I contact another counselor, and told me they couldn't confirm she was having technical issues for me, I should just message her via the platform to contact support. For a customer service team dealing with people who could be having a crises and unable to contact the counselor they'd been working with, that is an unacceptable response.

AWFUL, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, NO REFUND
I cancelled my subscription because I didn't realise that they only matched American councillors. Didn't use it at all. Emailed about a refund, no reply. Went to log in and they've deleted my account, despite me still having paid for a month at this point. Also raised a dispute through Paypal to try and get my £140 back.

Pros and Cons of BetterHelp
Update 2024: I haven't used this service for years, but last time I used it it was complete garbage. Better help was great at one time when I started, but since then their counselors barley care about their customers and try to outsource their sessions to group sessions. I didn't get nearly as much attention as I did before better help became popular. I would have recommended this service before, but not now. Now, they are garbage and have lost their quality significantly. The last counselor I had barley responded to me and cared about me. This service has gone way down hill. 👎
Old review from 2020:
Brief Summary: I've been to numerous counselors throughout my life for the past 20 years or so. Some of the issues I have faced were (starting from when I was younger up until now) my parents divorce, depression, anxiety, my own divorce, couples counseling, relationship issues, and now sexual & gender identity issues. I'm going to give you my honest opinion of BetterHelp and it won't just be some B.S. coming from a robot. Full disclosure, my motivation for writing this review is because they sent me a free tshirt; however, this was just a kind gesture by them and I want to return the favor. The tshirt is not in any way shape or form payment for me writing reviews for them. It'll take a whole lot more money than a free tshirt for me to sell my credibility. Also, you might see this review on a bunch of different sites. It's because I'm too lazy to write individual reviews for each site so I'm just going to copy and paste on the sites BetterHelp suggested I could help them out on. I hope this doesn't come off as illegitimate to you. So without further adieu, here we go.
Pros:
- Do counseling on your own schedule by chat, phone, or video
- Can leave messages for your counselor that they will respond to
- My counselor (at least) follows Cognitive Behavioral Therapy methods, which are good best practice standards for psychology and not just B.S.
- Unbiased - my counselor and I have not seen eye to eye on every subject we've discussed. I've talked about some very controversial subjects that they disagreed fundamentally on with me such as whether or not there is a wage gap between men and women. Even though we strongly disagreed on the evidence, my counselor has never held a grudge. She handled the discussion professionally while still giving a good opinion and staying focused towards my treatment and not getting caught up in the details.
- Price - I used to spend $120 a week going to a counselor in real life (with insurance). BetterHelp is less than half of what I used to pay (I believe it's $45 a week) and they offer more service than my IRL counselors ever did.
- Privacy - For me, I live alone so there's nothing better than talking to a counselor from the privacy and comfort of my own home. Though I guess if you have a full house with kids and relatives and whatnot this could be considered a con as there is not really a good place to escape to from prying ears.
- Reminders - They send you text reminders on your phone of when your appointment will be.
- The web interface - Makes it easy to schedule appointments, connect with your counselor, write to your counselor, share attachments with your counselor, etc. It's pretty snazzy.
Cons
- Connectivity can sometimes be crappy on VoIP calls. I have experienced some small issues with my counselor either coming through poor quality or disconnecting from the call when using the web interface. Typically though, she calls me right back and there has never been a catastrophic failure where we were not able to get reconnected and continue the counseling session that day.
- Availability - My counselor is only available for phone/video sessions Tuesdays and Fridays. My schedule works fine for this. I'm not sure if all counselors on BetterHelp maintain this schedule or not, but this would not be very flexible for some people.
That's about it. Not really much to say as the pros and cons really speak for this service. Overall though, I feel like this is the best counseling experience I've ever had because I really open up and be myself over the internet rather than being in person for counseling. I feel like BetterHelp is actually one of the few businesses today that cares about their customers and is actually making an effort to grow, which is also another reason why I am taking my precious time to write this review. I would recommend them.

Just churning through as many people as possible - quantity not quality
They cram so many calls into one day that the clinicians are unable to give you the proper time and attention.
The therapist didn't properly read my statement and therefore missed a lot of the important stuff. She promised to send me articles about the topics I brought up and sent completely unrelated things.
You are rushed off the call at 30min because someone else is waiting. All in all it feels like they're
