This website is a SCAM. They matched me to a counselor, not a licensed therapist. Know what her first advice was for me? To “download the Calm App and watch YouTube meditation videos”. Hahahahaha are you kidding me??? How is that helping someone? Right after that I requested a refund via email twice, their form on their website twice and called their number where no actual human picks up but rather an operating service. I also left a comment saying I need help with a refund on Instagram and they keep deleting it. This site is the worst and I plan on going to BBB until I get my full $198 back.

RIP-Off!!!!! Run, they take your money upfront than put me with a consular in California, I am in Florida. So you cancel the appointment, because of the time difference that is another cost. Run Run Run

Maybe I was just eventually (it took forever and I had to request a refund to get the ball rolling) matched with a terrible therapist, but I would not recommend this service. The app itself works okay I guess. I really just feel I wasted $185 for a month of no help. Update: BetterHelp has reached out and provided a full refund, which I appreciate.

Pinkwashing exploitative false advertising. I joined based on an advertisement that explicitly sold the service of connecting with an LGBTI+ counsellor. When I signed up they told me that they don't ask their counsellors if they are LGBTI+. ABSOLUTE LIES. I got a refund and they said they would revise their advertising. A month late and the same advert came up on my feed. Response to Betterhelp: You are advertising this service using this testimonial which you say is based on one person's experience who essentially got lucky by pairing with an LGBTI+ counsellor. When I asked for the same experience which you advertised you said - oh no we can't do that. You told me you could not identify if counsellors were LGBTI+ so you COULD NOT match me with a different one. You could not provide a service that you specifically highlighted and despite being notified by a member of the community you have still not changed the advert. I am the national Education Coordinator of an LGBTI+ service and will ensure our members are made aware of this situation and your response.

I paid $320 for a monthly service which I was told included 4 sessions. Due to the fact you cannot book out numerous sessions and the therapists have limited availability, I’ll be getting just 2 sessions. This is only because they gave me an extra week to try to persuade me not to quit! I changed therapists 3 times because of the lack of available appointments. I don’t think therapist hopping is the key to optimal results! I will never use messaging or the other services, so I have completely wasted hundreds of dollars. Really disappointing.

I have left very few reviews in my life. My negative experience with betterhelp has prompted me to inform others. Paid up front for 4 sessions 320.00. First counselor was great had 1session. I got busy at work and didn't use the service for about a month. Counselor informed me my account was in a inactive status. When work allowed I followed procedures and reached out to another counselor, 2 weeks plus went by and never received a response. With 3 sessions left from the first 320.00 betterhelp charged my card again for another 320.00. I was not informed nor did I give authorization for this charge. Betterhelps customer service is a independant answering service. Leaving messages only prompts more non problem solving emails and at one point, in an email, was told they don't make phone calls. Funny thing when you want to give them money they get right on the phone. Ultimately we had to dispute the charge through are credit card company. Emails from betterhelp were not helpful, problem solving nor did they have a caring tone, quite the opposite. I feel web based companies should have a live customer service representatives TO HELP. Betterhelp does not! Their are plenty of counseling services available, save yourself aggravation and Do NOT choose betterhelp.

Very cold unprofessional company. You reach out for help, get assigned a counsellor that wont respond to a single message. You want to quit after 2 day and you cant get a refund. Absolute scam, left me feeling worse than before. Without a single question answered there should be a money back option.

Although I appreciate the initiative, there aren't enough counsellors. It took over a week before someone reached out to me and another week before I could actually meet my counsellor out of a 4 weeks plan which is ridiculous. Sessions are too short and my counsellor was unresponsive and our time differences made it too difficult to communicate. I think the website is only tailored for people based in the USA and nowhere else hence the lack of choice. The price was also so ridiculously high, I regret wasting that much for so little. Really really unsatisfied.
