When I found out my new insurance would not cover bariatric surgery I decided to look into paying for it myself. I was shocked and discouraged at the cost. Then I came across articles about traveling abroad to have it done. I was skeptical at first. However, my sister and my husband both helped me look into it. I found Beliteweight on line and started a dialogue with them. I spoke to several different people who were able to answer all of my questions, and many had had the surgery done in Mexico, so they were speaking from experience. I researched the facilities in Juarez and the 2 doctors there. I looked at reviews, looked for negative comments or experiences on line, and made the decision to do it. My sister came with me. We met in El Paso airport on a Friday afternoon. The driver was already there to pick us up. We arrived at the hospital and I only had to do a few additional things to check in. They took us to my room (my sister got to stay with me on a sofa bed in the room) and I had my pre-op testing done in the next few hours. Between Friday afternoon and Saturday late morning, I met the all doctors and some of the nursing staff. Most spoke English very well and communication was good. I felt comfortable and safe. They took my sister’s meal orders for the day (yes they even fed her, and it was good food), and a few times she walked down the street to Subway too. The hospital was clean and the staff was friendly. You could not get on the elevators to go to the patient rooms without speaking to a security guard, telling him your room #, showing your hospital bracelet or visitor’s badge. Very secure. The surgery was around noon on Saturday. I had a lap band in 2007 but had to have it removed in 2017 because it slipped and was causing medical issues. I has a mini gastric bypass. They say the procedure took about an hour. I had some scar tissue from the former band in there and the Dr. removed that while he was in there. I went back to my room and my sister had already been informed that everything went well and I was fine. I slept on and off most of the day. Sunday was a full recovery day. I was up and walking the hall every hour. Clear liquids for food. Visits from the nurses for vitals and to see how I was doing. A doctor checked on me a few times too. They also checked to make sure I understood the post-surgery diet for the next 4 weeks and bring me some medication to take home. On Monday they discharged me and a driver picked us up to take us back to the airport. Going over the border was pretty easy, it was just very crowded going back to the US so you need to make sure you give yourself enough time to get back to the airport if you’re flying. I had taken that whole next week off to recuperate and I am glad I did. I was sore and had to adjust to the lack of food intake so I was very tired. I was back to work the following Monday, 10 days after surgery. I am 5 weeks out and have lost 42 pounds. I am glad I found Beliteweight. They held my hand throughout it all. They called me when I got home to see how I was doing and to make sure all went well. They also followed up at the 1 month mark too. I will get a random text to see how I am doing. I even did the financing through them and it was easy. I recommend them to anyone thinking of doing this. It is life changing, and even though I am at the beginning of my journey, I hope to be able to send an email to them in a year to say I am down over 100 pounds!

It was a really good experience. I am an RN and I watched their every move closely. Everything was done appropriately and very professionally. There is no fluff just good care. I would recommend this to anyone needing this surgery. The procedure itself was very fast. It only took about an hour. There was very minimal pain after surgery. They gave me medicine to prevent nausea and pain. I was comfortable. The drivers transporting you back and forth across the border were very nice and professional. I felt safe the whole time. There is very tight security at the hospital. Almost everyone I encountered spoke some English and the Doctors spoke very good English. As I said above, I would recommend this place for this surgery. It’s half the cost as America and just as effective. I went to Ciudad Juarez.
