Customer service was disrespectful
Customer service was disrespectful. When the worker was asked if anyone spoke English, "Anthony" (the person who answered) said, "This is America, we speak English." As someone who was in a cognitive science program, it is easy to explain why some people have difficulty speaking another language that is not their native tongue. As one gets older, learning a language is exponentially more difficult, and some people might have a hard time understanding every English word. Certain sounds in languages learned later may not be able to be replicated in that language for those who learn the language late as well. Does that mean that people don't try to learn the language? Not at all, most people try but get shy to use the language because it is not perfect. Sometimes it is difficult for them because they only understand some words and not all. Is it really necessary to say such phrases such as, "We are in America, we speak English?" Not to mention, this worker had an accent that was also hard to understand. The irony of it.
