Banner University Rheumatology
I really like Banner University Hospital and most of it's doctors. However, my recent experience with their Rheumatology Department was very bad. No wonder on Yelp and Google they have 2.0 stars and that is only because you have to at least post one star to post on Google. My name is Chatauna Robinson. If I could give no stars I would, but unfortunately they make you give at least one star. My journey with this department and one of its doctors has not been very comforting nor pleasant. I thought after the first inital visit my doctor was getting better. I wrote that it was getting better in one of their surveys, however I guess it was on my end but not hers. When I first met Dr. K. she never smiled or looked and was cold towards me. Her Student who was there and saw me first she was very nice, talkative and approachable, however, Dr. K was not. Then the next time we met Dr. K. had changed her entire vibe. Then the next time we met she had two women with her and she accused me of not liking her in the beginning, which was not true, I did not even know her. So I responded with how she came to me without smiling or looking at me and was cold. We met again and she had a male student with her and this time I received the same treatment as before. I explained to her everything I had been going through. She put me on medication that is not working. In my portal I was communicating with her, which takes her days to get back with me. So I asked if I could try this other medication that will not raise my blood sugar up, because I suspect that the last medication she put me on is raising my blood sugar. She wrote me back and stated that she can no longer treat me that I should find another Rheumatologist. I am a retired RN so I monitor myself very closely. What I eat, drink, snacks, my labs so I always talk with my doctors. And we usually work out a plan that we can both live with. When something is not right they usually listen to me. But she just threw me away like I was nothing. So I was able to make an appointment with Kim, PA but since doctors stick together two days before my appointment she had Erin the receptionist call me and cancel stating that she did not want me as a patient. All of my doctors, except for my PCP is at Banner University. I HAVE NEVER EVER, had this experience with any of them like I have had with the Rheumatology Department. If you look at their reviews then you will see how many people are very disappointed in the treatment that they have received from there. But because they are specialist, they can get away with treating you anyway they can. Everything I have written is true and is in my Banner Portal along with the reviews that I posted with Banner.

Unethical billing practices
I was hospitalized at a Banner Health facility in Fort Collins, Colorado because my Kaiser insurance plan does not have an in-network hospital within 60 miles of my location. The day after my admission, while I was still recovering, sedated, and receiving pain medication, a Banner billing representative came to my hospital room and asked me to sign documents regarding my financial responsibility for my care.
During that conversation, I specifically asked about setting up a payment plan. The representative stated that she could assist me with the process on my phone. What I later discovered was that I had actually been enrolled in a third-party financing program through Curae, resulting in a credit inquiry being placed on my credit report. At no time did I understand that I was applying for a credit product, nor do I believe I was in a condition to fully comprehend the nature of the documents being presented to me.
What is particularly concerning is that Banner Health charged the Curae account before my insurance claim had been fully processed. When I later received my insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB), I learned that Banner had billed approximately twice the amount that I ultimately owed after insurance adjustments were applied.
After spending nearly two hours on the phone with Banner's out-of-state billing department, I was informed that the overpayment would need to be refunded to the Curae account. However, I was also told that the refund process could take up to 45 days. In the meantime, I remain responsible for making payments on a financing account that should never have been charged for those amounts in the first place. Additionally, the balance being reported by Curae exceeds the amount I originally understood and consented to.
I believe it is inappropriate and unethical to present hospitalized patients—particularly those who are medicated, sedated, or otherwise vulnerable—with financing agreements without ensuring they fully understand that they are applying for a credit product and authorizing a credit inquiry. Patients should not be placed in a position where they unknowingly incur debt obligations while receiving inpatient medical care.
This experience has severely damaged my trust in Banner Health's billing and financial practices. I am deeply concerned about the manner in which this financing arrangement was presented and processed, and I will not seek care at a Banner facility ever again in the future as a result of this experience. After reading reviews, I am not alone in this experience.

Due to the incompetency of the Surgery…
Due to the incompetency of the Surgery staff. I’ve had nothing but grief. During my operation they dropped medicine. My insurance company had just paid for. And of course, because they just paid for it. They’re not gonna pay for it again. This hospital is the worst hospital I’ve ever been in and I’ve been in a lot of them.
You value your life stay away

Last night on 6.2.26 I took my BF in…
Last night on 6.2.26 I took my BF in due to chest pains we checked in got called once for his information , sat down, got called again for BP check weight etc, sat down 3rd time in the lobby , called again to get blood drawn and EKG , they sat him down AGAIN in the lobby waited another hr called back they laid him in a room BP check , questions and blood drawn again and an IV started no heart monitor or anything, what got me confused is after his blood drawn the nurse gave him 2 tubes of blood to hold so if they wanted more blood they can use that. Xray was done sat for another hour was taken into another sitting area in the back as he was in pain the whole time nothing being done . They came to take him to get a CT more blood was drawn we told the guy here are a couple of tubes that was given to us incase you need more blood he looked shocked and was confused why we were holding the tubes of blood smh. Well after 7 hours we were let go all they said was it might be a strain in his arms. The way they have their system is just insane you go from one room to another the whole time you are the the waiting room in the back is very uncomfortable especially of a patient is uncomfortable. They need better way of getting people comfortable. At the end they take you to another chair to wait for the doctor to come and discharge you. Took them forever to clean off the blankets that were used and I saw one nurse place a pillow that was used back in the same room with out changing it out. They need to do better.

Never use or you will end up regretting it
The entire organization needs reviewed.
1. Physical consists of a series of questions and a lab draw. Nothing ever actually looked at, and if they do it costs you an extra office visit fee.
2. Instead of coding my blood draw as a wellness draw the Dr coded it as blood diagnostics. so the insurance would not pay as part of my wellness check.
3. In the 6 months since I was told the doctor fixed the code and would rebill insurance. LIE
The lab that did the work coded it wrong and would rebill. LIE
Told they did bill as a wellness draw and the insurance still would not pay it. LIE
4. After all of this I called billing manager with the insurance rep on the line, and was told that none of the above ever happened, and for them to rebill the insurance I would have to get the doctor to correct his coding. Advised to call clinic manager. I called and was told they emailed them to call me. Called a week later and got the same answer. NO CALL.
5. Had a visit with a specialist and told because of my past due I had to pay my portion up front. I did and then found when they billed the insurance I over paid.
6 They continued to send me past due notices and never took the over payment off for credit.
7. They finally advised my account was going to collections, so I paid the full amount less my over payment, that they agreed I was due back, to avoid a hit on my credit report. Next day they had the nerve to email me that the amount of the credit they were to apply was still past due on my account. I called the billing and got the run around that they were bills and credits from different areas and could take a few weeks to straighten out.
8. So currently I am still waiting to get my December Lab draw coded properly and the amount refunded. (As a note they also advised they do not automatically tell you you have a credit on your account, you have to catch it and ask for it back.) My account still shows past due until they apply the over payment to one area of their business to the other bill they want paid for.
I WILL NEVER GO TO A BANNER HEALTH CLINIC OR HOSPITAL AGAIN. I will drive 10 miles down the road to a different town and hospital.

Billed for incompetence
Expect to be billed for services that should be free. Under our insurance plan, annual physicals and blood work are fully covered; however, this office refuses to code the lab work properly, forcing the cost onto the patient. They simply ignore insurance companies' established codes and policies.
I specifically instructed them to only perform blood work covered by my annual physical, noting that I have no source of income. They charged me regardless. I will not be returning; I cannot afford to pay for their systemic incompetence.
