Autozone scam
I ordered a part through AutoZone’s website and selected same-day delivery because the website showed the part was available for delivery. Nowhere during the ordering process was it made clear to me that the part would be handed off to a third-party delivery service. After placing the order and paying for the part, I received a text message from a random out-of-state number from the delivery driver stating that they were not going to deliver my part because they weren’t going to make enough money on the delivery. They were essentially holding my paid-for part until they could get more money from me. That is completely unacceptable. If AutoZone is going to use third-party delivery services, AutoZone needs to take responsibility for the experience its customers receive. Customers should not have to deal with a delivery driver demanding additional money after an order has already been paid for. I contacted AutoZone immediately because I was obviously upset. I spoke with a manager who identified himself as Phoenix. While I understand that the manager may not have control over what happens once a third-party driver has the package, his handling of the situation was extremely disappointing. He was rude, repeatedly interrupted me, and would not allow me to explain what had happened. At one point, he told me that he needed to finish what he was saying instead of allowing me to finish explaining the situation. There are ways to de-escalate an angry customer, and this was not one of them. I understand that AutoZone may not directly employ the delivery driver, but that does not change the fact that I placed the order through AutoZone, paid AutoZone, and expected AutoZone to provide the service I purchased. There are enough scams and questionable delivery practices going on already. Customers should not have to worry about their paid-for parts being held by a third-party driver demanding additional money. This entire experience was unacceptable, from the lack of transparency about the third-party delivery to the driver refusing to deliver my order and then the poor customer service I received when I contacted AutoZone. AutoZone needs to take a serious look at how these third-party deliveries are being handled. I will be very hesitant to use AutoZone’s delivery service again.
