I had a terrible experience with Auto-Owners Insurance. The customer service was frustrating, communication was poor, and I felt completely ignored during the claims process. On top of that, the adjuster handling my case was even worse — unprofessional, dismissive, and not helpful at all. Instead of making a stressful situation easier, they made it much more difficult. I expected honesty, support, and timely updates, but received the opposite. I am extremely disappointed with the way this claim has been handled by the claim specialist, Jen Schlier. She was rude, unwilling to listen, and very difficult to communicate with throughout the process. Experiences like this can truly damage a company’s reputation. A claims department should be staffed with professionals who know how to treat clients with respect, empathy, and professionalism — especially during stressful situations involving claims. It is frustrating to pay monthly premiums expecting support when needed, only to feel dismissed when it is time for the company to step up. Based on my experience, I hope the company seriously evaluates the quality of customer service they are providing and the people representing them. I would strongly encourage others to do their research carefully before working with this company.

Very sorry company there Driver hit me when I was sitting in a Driveway the Claims adjuster never called me and they refused to take responsibility even though there Driver admitted to hitting me it took 3 years for them to settle it but I'm Injured for life. And disabled for life can't never work again sorry insurance company.

What happened to Auto Owners? I had my Home and Auto with them for 20+ years. I was always happy with their service. The few claims that I had were all handled perfectly. Then, I’m not sure if it’s just greed, or they watched the Incredibles and thought that was how great insurance companies ran. I had a claim on my new truck, an adjuster came out and put the damage at $5000. They made it so hard to get a body shop that was convenient and accommodating that a year and a half later I am still driving around with the $5000 damage. But, the last straw was when my mortgage payment went from 2000 a month to 2400 a month I called my mortgage company and asked them what happened. They said that Auto Owners had gone from $2000 a year up to $3200 a year about halfway through the year. Because there was a shortage in the escrow, there was not only a huge increase, but they had to add last year‘s shortage onto the mortgage also. And then she looked and said wait, they’re about to go up again to 3750 per year. I called Liberty Mutual and they were at 1844 per year for the same exact coverage on my house, and $150 less per month on my three cars. Auto-Owner’s should ask for the CEOs immediate resignation.

I have a 19 y/o grandson who is living with me. He is about to go into the military and will not be residing in my household after that point in time. He is not allowed to drive my cars. He has his own car. He has never driven my cars nor will he ever drive one of my cars. Auto Owners Insurance through my local agent contacted me and I assured them he would never drive my car and I was willing to sign a statement to bind me to this position. Two days ago, they issued a "Description of Changes effective 04-01-2026" on my auto policy in which they "Added Non-Driver (my grandson's name)" and changed the rating on all 4 vehicles listed on my policy. It increased my policy by $215.14. If he is a "Non-Driver" what is the good faith reason to increase my policy? If you have someone living in your home who is not driving your vehicles, find another insurance company. I don't feel they are dealing honestly with me.

13 year customer, it’s a terrible company if you file a claim. They doubled our insurance premium after we demanded a second engineering opinion, which went our way. We’re stuck with them until a hurricane Helene claim is settled which has dragged on for nearly two years. Our agent can’t even explain what’s actually covered and what isn’t. They’re a clown show.

I switched to Auto Owners using a local agency and I'm so sorry I used either one. I had a horrible experience with the owner of the local agency so I called Auto Owners and talked with an employee named Curtis. He really didn't care and sounded like he didn't care about the company he worked for either. I would never go back to the local agency or Auto Owners. My father used to use this company and back then they were great. Now, I'm surprised they are not one star as bad as this experience was. I've already switched and now waiting to get the confirmation back for closing the account to be effective next week on Tuesday. The way I was talked to, I might have to go to the state insurance board to make this happen, it was that bad.
