After nearly a year of care, multiple injections and spending literally thousands of dollars, I have the same back issue. Kristian is a NP, not an MD and I don't believe I received quality care from him or the Core Institute. Their system is similar to a factory where you spend many hours waiting for an appointment, then paying in advance for your deductible, then being upsold on other procedures like a cheap restaurant. Each time I arrived for an appointment, I was being sold vein treatment services - I have no vein issues. Communication is incredibly disappointing, in the nearly one year I was being treated I made two inquiries on their portal - their preferred way of communicating. Kristian didn't respond to the first one for two months and never responded to the second. I do not recommend Kristian, nor the Core Institute.

I have used 6 different EMR
I have used 6 different EMR. This one is the worst one ever. It is click heavy, makes you go thru layers to get thigs done and if will not let you close an item and at the same time will not let you know what to do to get it done. The company does not have a website for feedback - that should be a clue that they don't really care. Also I have never had to click so many times for so many things including ICD 10 codes.
I am so frustrated every day I use it. Even if they paid me extra every day to use it I would get rid of it.

I have never heard of a worse business…
I have never heard of a worse business in my entire life. These people are going to rot in a pit of garbage after they die.

The Athena portal my doctor uses is garbage
I needed info about an MRI I had last December. So I looked for some kind of search or sort function. Nothing. I got tired of paging thru the very poorly conceived paging function (I was a web developer so know how it's done), and there was nothing. So I saw a download & thought I'd run it into a spreadsheet or use the search function on Adobe. It was garbage!
I wondered if I was being a little rough, so I asked Google for other opinions:
You said: athenahealth portal is garbageYou are far from alone in this. Widespread user reviews—from patients and clinical staff alike—frequently criticize the Athena Healthcare, Inc. Reviews on Trustpilot and the ATHENAHEALTH Reviews on Yelp for glitchy interfaces, broken login loops, and frustrating automated support.Navigating the platform's clunky design and technical limitations can be incredibly frustrating. Consider these practical workarounds to manage your healthcare needs and bypass the portal:Bypass Login Loops: If the web portal is freezing or giving you an "email not in database" error, try clearing your browser's cache, use an incognito window, or use a different web browser like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. (A comprehensive list of supported web browsers is detailed in the Patient Portal Frequently Asked Questions - Athenahealth).Contact the Front Desk Directly: Because AthenaHealth is an enterprise software provider, their direct support is geared toward clinic administrators rather than patients. If you are locked out of your medical records or need an urgent prescription refill, call your local doctor's office directly and ask them to manually push a document or reset your registration link on their end.Avoid the Online Check-In Forms: Many users report receiving automated text/email links from the system that glitch when trying to submit paperwork online. If the system is unresponsive, you can usually just ignore the digital link and ask to fill out the paperwork in the waiting room when you arrive.

If I could give Athena 0 stars I would
If I could give Athena 0 stars I would. In 20 years of healthcare revenue cycle management they are without a doubt the worst system I have ever worked with. Their reps know absolutely NOTHING about billing and coding. They obviously have zero knowledge about the individual plans in each state. The do "work" on the backend that is inappropriate and unnecessary. Their agents (all in India, by the way), speak poor English, are rude, and unhelpful. They lose money constantly. Literally...will cash checks, and put the money in the wrong lockbox, at a different practice in a different state! Their site is garbage and glitches constantly. The "help" section is terrible. They create MORE work for my team and I. They have lost our practice money. They just randomly send notes and do appeals whenever they feel like it. Their management is frustrating, it's difficult to get them to understand you. They like to place blame back on the practice and say "our agents were just doing what the EOB said!" No, the EOBs are NOT telling you to send endless notes (that they do not review anyway), they are asking for preauthorizations as obvious by the step by step instructions. Don't ever give Athena your money. They will give you bad service, and then raise their rates year after year. Private equity has destroyed yet another company.

Pros and Cons of Athena Health.
Here are the Pros and Cons I experienced. Pros: The Health Care Providers and front desk agents were friendly and amazing. Cons: The Login Portals and non existent phone customer service. The Login Portals will not let you into your account, no matter what password you're sure of entering. And two, if you contact their 1-800 customer care number, they won't help either. They only service "care providers", not the patients. Good luck with the 2 step verification too. The phone number they want to contact you with, isn't the correct one.

I would give zero stars if possible
I would give zero stars if possible. My office administrator who is new in the private practice system set up a call with Athena to discuss their RCM system not realizing it’s a completely different EMR system from what we currently use and we would need to switch EMR system in order to use their RCM system. She has had me spending weeks on dealing with these “demos and meetings” and all I want is a price range of what this is going to cost us. I was asked what our collections was for the last year and year to date so far, I gave an estimate, wasn’t good enough they needed the exact number in order to provide a quote which I thought was strange. Why would our collections depend on our quote so I research and discovered our quote is based on our revenue as Athena takes a percentage of the revenue, we weren’t going to use their RCM part due to all the horrible reviews but now I find out their EHR system is pretty much worthless without the RCM, so they sell it as a package basically to force you to have both. I’m super annoyed I’ve wasted so much time on this and I should’ve put my foot down weeks ago and asked more questions. Shady practices and the salespeople are used car salesman.

Headline: Inefficient CSC Support and Data Cross-Contamination is Damaging Our Practice
"As a private practice, we rely on athenahealth for billing accuracy and timely support. Unfortunately, the CSC team has become a major bottleneck. Communication is poor, and we have experienced alarming instances where support cases from other practices were mixed with ours, raising serious privacy concerns.
Furthermore, our own cases are frequently lost or left unresolved for weeks. This lack of accountability is directly affecting our billing cycle and cash flow. We are spending more time chasing athenahealth support than managing our practice. Extremely disappointed in the current state of their customer service."
