I don't know how to clean up the words I have to say about this company. Just because a vast majority of providers accept this insurance doesn't mean it's a good plan for the consumer. I am on the dual advantage specialist needs plan I also have medicaid mtlc, how ever Anthem is telling me that they do not see the mltc and claming the current plan is the only plan im eligible for. And that's not true very few of their loyalty team is there to help you they are not they are there to keep you stuck in a plan your unhappy with. Then they told me that ppo plans are being canceled out and there is no ppo plan in my area at the same time dismissing my mltc. I want to leave this insurance but one of my providers is not in humana. This company is awful. Please don't sign up here

I recently had a claim rejected by…
I recently had a claim rejected by Anthem Blue Cross. It had also been previously rejected by Carelon Rx. I had been overpaying for Freestyle Libre 3 Plus sensors from Dec 2025 - Jul 2026 by approx. $400-$500 in total. I had not been told I needed a Prior Authorization in Dec 2025 for the sensors and was unfortunately told by CVS multiple times that insurance was in fact covering it, incorrectly.
When I called Carelon Rx in July 2026 I was told, after the person spoke with their supervisor, that they would be able to backdate the Prior Authorization a year, or more. I would then be able to get insurance coverage on those sensors which I had overpaid for. So, I got the PA in July 2026, and the only reason I then sent a claim to both Carelon Rx and Anthem was because of what I was told there, by phone. Otherwise, without that one-year timeline for a backdate, I would not have sent the claim.
I was rejected by both Carelon Rx and Anthem and told there was only a 1-month backdate for the PA. Which was the complete opposite of what I was told on the phone with Carelon Rx. So, I was never informed by insurance (either Anthem or Carelon Rx) that I needed a PA in the first place, in Dec. 2025. A PA was never sent to my Dr.'s office during that time. I was then incorrectly told by CVS, for whatever reason, that it was in fact covered by insurance despite the high cost, on multiple occasions. And then I was rejected twice for claims despite being told of the one-year timeline by Carelon Rx phone previously, which had started the whole process.
For a person with a chronic condition who needs these medications continuously, this is kind of a problem. I am on the hook for the overpayment of the sensors from Dec to July, despite the PA never being sent to my doctor's office, me never being alerted I needed a PA in the first place, and CVS telling me very incorrectly that it was covered by insurance. It feels like I wasn't to blame in this particular situation and the insurance should in fact retroactively cover the sensors. That seems to me to be the only right course of action.
The whole purpose of having insurance seems to be to help cover and defray high costs for chronic conditions such as diabetes. I can't quite wrap my head around how all this came about as it seems pretty dysfunctional and incompetent, from Anthem to Carelon Rx, to CVS. It feels like a cost-cutting move instead of any empathy for the customer/patient.
I will be moving to a new insurance company in 2027. In truth, this ended up being one of the worst experiences I've ever had with an insurance company. And that's saying something.

One Star Is One Star Too Many — An Absolute Nightmare of an Insurance Company
**This is, without question, the worst health insurance experience I have ever had.**
After many years with Kaiser Permanente, changes in our employment circumstances forced me to switch to a PPO. I'd heard countless people tell me how much better PPO insurance was than Kaiser. After experiencing it firsthand, I couldn't disagree more.
What I've encountered instead is a fragmented, bureaucratic nightmare in which nobody seems to know what's going on, nobody takes responsibility, and the customer is left doing everyone else's job.
The entire system feels deliberately designed to make getting medical care as difficult as possible, with so many disconnected parties and processes that the insurance company can conveniently avoid accountability. You can't even get a straight answer about what will be covered until you've wasted hours chasing people around in circles — or worse, until after you've had the procedure.
**The prior authorization process is an absolute disgrace.**
I've spent countless hours trying to get straightforward answers and authorizations for medical procedures, only to have my requests disappear into what can best be described as a black hole.
Their so-called "advocates" are particularly useless. They assure you they'll research your issue, contact your doctor, follow up, and get things resolved. Then you never hear from them again. No resolution. No accountability. Nothing.
My latest experience, TODAY, is a perfect example of just how dysfunctional this company is.
My doctor submitted a referral for a procedure and provided me with the referral number. When I contacted the insurance company, they claimed they couldn't find it anywhere, while simultaneously informing me that the procedure required prior authorization.
Meanwhile, my doctor's office could clearly see the referral sitting in a "pending review" status, apparently awaiting action from the insurance company.
So who's responsible? Nobody, apparently.
When I contacted my doctor's office again, they suggested getting all three parties on the phone together because, in their experience, that's the only way anything ever gets resolved with this insurance company.
That alone should tell you everything you need to know.
We attempted to arrange this, but the insurance representative was so utterly incompetent that he couldn't even navigate his own company's phone system well enough to reach the appropriate person.
After this ridiculous exercise ended with us being routed to my doctor's voicemail, the representative actually had the audacity to lecture ME about how the problem was my doctor's fault. Apparently, I should be obtaining case numbers and chasing down even more information myself.
This, immediately after my doctor's office had explained how frequently insurance companies drop the ball and why a three-way conversation was necessary in the first place.
Between the two, I know whose explanation I find more credible.
**This company doesn't provide customer service. It provides obstacles, excuses, finger-pointing, and endless frustration.**
I am not an insurance administrator. I am not a medical billing specialist. I am a paying customer who needs access to medical care. Yet I'm expected to spend hours coordinating between people who apparently cannot communicate with one another, all while paying for the privilege.
The amount of time I've wasted dealing with this company is staggering. And this isn't simply an inconvenience. When an insurance company's incompetence interferes with access to medical procedures, there are potentially serious consequences for people's health.
Fortunately, I'll soon be returning to Kaiser Permanente, where I could actually get the care I needed without this endless bureaucratic nonsense — and, in my experience, without the additional out-of-pocket costs I've encountered with this PPO.
I cannot wait to be rid of this company.
As far as I'm concerned, insurance that makes it this difficult to access care defeats the entire purpose of having health insurance in the first place.
**An appalling waste of time, money, and energy, with potentially serious implications for patient health.**
If Trustpilot allowed me to give zero stars, I would. One star is far more than this company deserves.

I have had this insurance company since 2022
I have had this insurance company since the year 2022, and so far they have gotten worse, and they are causing problems to my mental and physical health and well being. I am thinking switching to a new insurance company soon as possible, because they are not worth the time and the benefits they provide. I have been been without certian medications, and my personal care here at home is never fillfilled, and they got the nerve in order to adjust the home care plan I have to get doctors notes saying what I need or else it won't happen. Meanwhile I am going through pain and suffering trying to wait for help here at home, and I am getting is neglect and abuse and criticism from these personal care agencies that are connected with this insurance company. I feel really worn out and I am about to make that switch real soon. I thought I could continue trusting this company but no.

Anthem dental insurance terrible customer service
I have had anthem for my gap insurance with Medicare, but I’ve also had them three years for my individual dental insurance. I had no issues until this week. Four months ago somebody hacked my credit card, I had to cancel my card and get a new Visa card. It was my era, but I neglected to call anthem and give them the new card number and I was on auto pay. So for two months, the payment was declined. I was not aware of that. This week I had my six month dental checkup. They called me the day before and told me they couldn’t validate my insurance. Immediately, I knew what it happened. I called the anthem to give them the new credit card. They canceled the insurance, they would not reinstate it. It took him three days to make a decision and then called me to tell me if I want it I could appeal it, but that they had declined reinstating the insurance. Keep in mind this was because somebody hacked my credit card, they had no empathy for that at all basically telling me what their policy was. I am gonna go with a different company. I’m not gonna file an appeal. I don’t wanna be with a company that treats their customers like that. I am also going to change my gap insurance to AARP. I don’t wanna get in a situation with my medical where I have to deal with the same type of customer service. They had me on the phone for an hour on Monday. Told me they would get back with me. It took three days they called this evening and told me they had declined to reinstate it. I was on the phone another 30 minutes re-explaining the situation. They don’t care they go by their rules you would think this was a simple as getting my new card number charging me for the last two months and moving on. We’ve all had credit card situations like that and it’s as simple as that. Here’s my new card. Not with anthem they treated me like a criminal.
