Amerigas was a friendly and efficient company a few years ago. Unfortunately they have spit on customer service ideas and have taken to a "take it or leave it" attitude. Average wait times for a will call order are three or more weeks! Called in this last time expecting this unprofessionalism at 28% of a 500 gallon tank, today you can't get the local office because according to the computer voice they have taken strides to improve service... check delivery status on line and it showed delivery last week, which never happened... so today, I am still on hold it has now been 1 hour 47 minutes, hearing the same loop of hideous 8 notes of something that sounds like elevator music composed by 5 year olds. Been a customer for 12 years it seems I may die before one of their "customer service" reps answer my question... Where the F is my paid in advance delivery?

WOW! Since our local propane provider in Durham NC, Carolane, was bought out by AmeriGas the customer service sucks. Cancelled our service today and found out there will be a charge to take the tank away, no refund on any propane in the tank, AND they will charge a fee to pump the propane out and restock it. SO, this means they sell the propane I already paid for to someone else. In my book, that's double dipping. Kinda like a restaurant selling the food you didn't eat off your plate to someone else and then charging you to wash the dishes too. Reading the other reviews, it seems poor customer service is ubiquitous at Amerigas! And don't try to call unless you have an hour to waste.

Worst company I've ever delt with over priced and their billing is so screwed up they should be ashamed ,$1.30 higher than three other local dealers and they charge $100 to be on auto delivery , no one else does . I will never use them again .

Don't like long call center waits. Lousy call waiting music system, Crackling and breaking up. Can't call local office directly.

I wish I would’ve checked reviews first. I had been trying for 2 months to get them to do a safety check and fill my tank. Every time I called they told me next week it’ll happen. It never would. I gave up and called someone else. Unfortunately AmeriGas decided to show up the next day. I let them fill my tank. Now I’m looking at a bill that’s over the agreed rate. But I’ve been on hold for 30 minutes now and no one is answering. Steer clear of this company.

After reading many good things about our local LP provider Campbell LP out of Shallotte, NC, I decided to call on Sept the 10th to get a quote to install a underground tank and establish service for my generator and gas logs. Unfortunately, you can no longer contact the local branch, everything is routed through and automated service, with some awful annoying music. Kim, a very pleasant woman, gave me a quote and scheduled two appointments for the following week. One on Monday Sept 14th for a site evaluation, and the other for Friday Sept 18th for some type of permitting. That's where everything quickly went downhill. Monday Sept 14th- Took the day off work to meet with the tech for a site evaluation. Never happened. No call, No show! Tuesday Sept 15th- called and waited 15 minutes to speak with someone to figure out why I had been blown off. Spoke with Cheryl who was very apologetic. She said a manager would be in contact with me before close of business. Never happened! Wednesday Sept 16th- called back, once again I waited for over 30 minutes for someone to answer my call, finally a young woman answered, didn't catch her name as I was driving. Explained what had already transpired, she asked if she could put me on a brief hold, which lasted another 30 minutes, before the call was disconnected, which went right back to the annoying music for another 15 minutes before speaking with, I believe Jacqueline. I once again explained the situation, and she said she would find out what had happened. I requested that I not be put on yet another "brief" hold because of what previously happened. She assured me that if we were to get disconnected, that she would call me right back. Well, guess what? We did, and she didn't! Wednesday Sept 16th- Third call back to this company this morning. 15 more minutes of waiting for someone to answer. Lauren answered this time, again, like all the previous ladies, was very apologetic. I once again explained what was going on and would like to get to the bottom of it, before taking Friday off as well and making sure someone was going to show up. She assured me that they were, and not to worry they would do the site evaluation that they didn't show up for on Monday, when they did the permit work on Friday. I thanked her with a little piece of mind that things may finally be taken care of. Well, guess what, once again? FRIDAY Sept 18th- Took yet another day off work to meet with the tech for a site evaluation and permit work. AGAIN, NEVER HAPPENED! NO CALL, NO SHOW! Monday Sept 21st-at this point I'm beyond frustrated, but on the bright side only 10 minutes of waiting for someone to answer this morning. Now it's poor Lisa's turn to deal with my frustration. She apologized like all the previous women and gave me a number to call for customer escalations...... Monday Sept 18th- called the number Lisa gave me, and now I'm speaking with Shelia, again apologetic. I think they may be used to these calls. She said she'd reach out to the district and have someone call me. I'm not holding my breath or too much faith in that. I'm beginning to think they just tell you that to appease you and get off the phone with you. So, here we are now. I'm pissed, have gotten nowhere with anyone from this company, no results, no service, nothing. Wasted my time, lost wages, wasted vacation time, for nothing. I guess they're a big enough company, with enough money and clients, they honestly don't care. I do however find it ironic that every time you call, before that annoying broken music, they state, "Thank you for calling Amerigas, where safety and CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY" My only recourse is to seek another company for my propane needs, file a BBB complaint, and warn as many potential victims as possible to stay far far away.

Bought a lake house that had an AmeriGas tank. I called and set up an account with the understanding that they would transfer into my name post closing. Didn't happen, instead they locked the gas tank and didn't notify me. I called their infamous customer service, waited 2 hours on the phone and they said there was a mix up. However, they promised me that someone will be out in 3 days to reopen the gas. Three days later, no one showed up and no messages from Amerigas. I called again and they said someone would get it resolved ASAP and it was an extremely high priority. After 2 more days, no one called me back. I was at the end of my rope - no gas for over a week, so no hot water, no gas range, etc. and no one is doing anything to resolve my problem. I decided to drive over to the local Amerigas office, which I found to be entirely closed for COVID. Nonetheless I decided to wait in their parking lot until a driver pulled up and I walked over to him. He was very nice and apologetic. The driver said Amerigas was a terrible organization that bought the local propane company and proceeded to fire staff and save money. All customer service was being run out of North Carolina and the staff their was largely incompetent. This driver agreed to help me out. He called another driver who was free and met me at my lake house. The second driver gave me the same story about how crappy Amerigas was to its employees and he apologized for the treatment by their rude customer service staff. He was able to get the gas turned on, checked the system and lit the pilot lights. He also suggested that I may want to consider buying the Amerigas tank and then go to MFA or one of the other propane competitors who had much better customer service. Unfortunately the rating guidelines don't allow me to rate this company a 0 or negative number. Certainly a 1 rating is way too high.
