interstate move of household effects
I hired American Van Lines (AVL) to move household effects from New York to Connecticut. AVL contacted me first, then my parents in New York, to assess the items to be moved, the destination and the schedule. I indicated we were somewhat flexible about the move out date, but requested a delivery date in Connecticut for September 23 or 24. On August 16, I accepted a binding estimate. On August 4, AVL communicated the pick-up dates in New York between September 17-19. On August 6, I responded to AVL that the dates should be the 19 or 20th. On August 12, I again communicated that the delivery date should be either September 23 or 24. On September 16, I received a message from AVL the pack out date as Friday, September 23. On September 20, I received a message from AVL that the pick up is scheduled between September 23-25. I called and emailed AVL that the delivery date must be either September 22 or 23. I expressed my dissatisfaction about the dates without confirming the delivery. On September 21, I was informed the moving crew was unable to pack out on the scheduled date. On September 22, I received a verbal and written confirmation from AVL the pick-up date is September 25, between 10am and 2pm. On September 24, I was informed the date would be Monday, September 26, between 8am-12pm. On Monday September 26, the pack out times were delayed twice from 12pm to 1pm, and then to 3:30pm. The moving crew were on site until nearly 2am. The local movers re-assesses the household effects and changed the estimate. The movers insisted upon full payment for the new estimate or they would end the job. At no point did we receive a documented inventory or weight of the household effects packed onto the truck.
