Many boxes arrived crushed and holes ripped in them. In one case box containing files was split on a corner and it seemed the files had come out of the box and stuffed back in because the files arrived out of order. Furniture arrived with gouges. Driver did not point out these problems.we found them ourselves. We can provide photos. Driver was ill after pickup. Insufficient updates on when delivery would happen, An initial estimate of new arrival date was not re-confirmed. Emails and phone messages to verify the delivery date were not returned. Truck just showed up.

On time. all people were cooperative and supportive. The crew doing the unloading were superior. Moved from Colorado to Florida. Billing was the expected amount.

My original contact with an American Van Lines agent was extremely helpful and friendly. However, during the pick-up and delivery scheduling we hit a hiccup. We were cleaning out my parents house in Florida and the trucked items were being delivered to NJ. We still had cleaning to do in the FL house before it was closed on/sold. I was assured that we would beat the delivery truck to NJ. Not the case. The AVL truck got to NJ before us. We had to pay additional $$$ to overnight the drivers and truck. Once we met at our NJ home, the delivery person said our driveway was too small for his 16 wheeler. He wanted to unload to a smaller box truck at a different location. Fortunately, we have a friendly understanding police force in our small town. I policeman parked on the road to divert traffic. So we avoided THAT additional charge. Also, the deliverers nearly ripped apart our front entrance fence to deliver a piano. All of this info(short driveway & narrow entrance) was shared with the movers in FL. "No problem. We can deliver anything to anywhere." We paid and additional $800 - $1000 in unexpected costs. Not sure I would use this company in the future. Ultimately, for the same final cost, I would have preferred to use a small family owned local company instead of AVL.

When provided the initial estimate, it was not made clear to me that everything, including but not limited to, brooms, trash cans, bags of clothes, shoe rack, tool box, area rugs, etc. should be included as inventory, not just boxes and big items (couches, beds, etc.). Due to this miscommunication, my initial estimate increased by $1200 when I confirmed my inventory 72 hrs prior to the scheduled pick up window. In addition, I was told for $250/day my belongings would be stored on the truck, NOT unloaded until our agreed upon delivery date, and that the driver would wait for me at my destination. On my delivery date the driver of the truck informed me he drove from my destination to another state to unload another shipment, a shipment that was packed on the truck before mine. Therefore, my belongings were unloaded then reloaded onto the truck before being delivered to me, which I was told in writing would not happen. Also, when my belongings were delivered, my headboard for my bed frame was not reassembled, and several kitchen glasses in boxes marked as fragile were broken. Lastly, I was informed that I had to be present by 6pm for my delivery. A time my moving coordinator, myself, and the driver agreed upon. I was then informed on my delivery day that my window would be between 7-10pm, and my shipment wasn't delivered till 10:40pm, resulting in my shipment not being unloaded until close to midnight. Overall, I am not as pleased with this service as I was hoping to be. UPDATE 7/4/24 Customer service at American Van Lines reached out to me regarding my concerns. They took accountability and were willing to work with me to reach an amicable resolution. I feel heard and appreciate the effort put forth by American Van Lines to resolve my dissatisfaction.

The day the movers arrived we were informed of rate increase of about $500 over the contract price because of various shipping and storage cost increase. Impossible to change movers at that point. The delivery truck arrived 1 day later than scheduled because of driver family emergency. Move was completed but not as planned

I liked the driver and his helper. For the most part the company did well, I was disappointed that I could not get calls responded to. There was not much energy to return calls or they were returned a good while after. It was my first time moving across country and needed more info to feel more at ease. At the end of the day, my stuff was picked up. I didn't realize how big the truck was, but they delivered in an amazing amount of time. They dropped it off and it all went well.

My pickup was delayed by 2 days after I had booked the move months in advance. If I had been moving a short distance it wouldn’t have been a big deal but I was moving 1800 miles. It was extremely stressful because I had to rearrange so many different things, including my job. UPDATE: American did reach out to me and an amicable resolution was reached and I do appreciate the follow up.

I had a large move cross country and they were to pack everything (w/the exception of a few boxes I packed). They loss or stole a lot of my things. Such as small kitchen appliances, garden equipment, and shoes. My entertainment unit was stored, along with my other possession, heavy items must have been sat on it because top was warped. I will never use them again.
