I had them come to my house to see what I wanted to take to get the size of the container. I was given a estimated quote price that I was happy with and was told that the paperwork with the completed quote would be emailed to me in a few days. When the email came it was 3 times higher than the estimated quote. I questioned it and all I was told is the prices goes up. Needless to say, I didn't want anything to do with his company after that!

So much went wrong. For example: packing staff were surly and difficult whenever I asked questions. I was coerced to sign an empty inventory and other related documents. No customer service backup help was provided. Items split between two destinations were improperly routed, etc.

Do not use Allied Van lines I strongly recommend that anyone avoid using Allied Van Lines to move your household goods and, in particular, Dunmar Moving Systems of Richmond, Virginia. I contacted Allied Moving to store and then move my household goods from Virginia to France. They put me in contact with Dunmar Moving Solutions in Richmond, Virginia. I found later that Allied is part of a larger group called SIRVA. My goods were packed and shipped directly to Dunmar’s facility. Four months later I asked them to be shipped and they were packed into a container and shipped to France. The Allied/SIRVA contact in France said no French authorities nor any of the French movers opened the container until it arrived at my home. The wooden bulkhead Dunmar built in the container to secure the goods was in place. I am missing at least 10 of my boxes of goods, including two large dish packs that would have had my name written on them like all the others. This was along with the damaged furniture. I had self-packed a number of plastic and soft containers. Sixteen boxes had no tags on and so I could not check them off the inventory sheets. I was able to reduce that to 10 by counting everything and the contents. Some had tags but had been wrapped with paper with the tags covered. I received two of my self-packed containers that did not have a tag and were not on the inventory. I also received part of someone else’s sofa. I contacted Dunmar about the problem and they told me I had 5 days to report on the missing boxes. I emptied and kept every box so I could check all the numbers, which I did 3 times. I also counted every item I received and matched that against the inventory list and reported back to them on the 3rd day. I made sure I kept in contact with Dunmar and the local SIRVA agent on what was going on. The local movers spoke very little English so they were of little help, although they knew I was missing boxes. We communicated that much. I filed my claim with SIRVA within the 30-day window. I certainly did not list everything as it was just too much to remember. However, it is hard to forget part of a Waterford Chrystal set and a large portion of my wife’s clothing. There were also things we had collected over 40 years from numerous countries that we now realize are missing. SIRVA offered payment for the damaged furniture repairs. When it came to the missing boxes, they said that Dunmar had investigated and said they lost nothing. They said I could not prove they were missing so they would do nothing. I told them that I was not interested in their money, but that I wanted my goods. I first offered a $500, no questions asked, reward for my goods, and upped that to $1000. I told them that I would not ask they be sent to me but kept in the US. I asked them to contact everyone Dunmar had shipped to from the time my goods arrived until they sent them to me. I do not know if they did so. I told them that the local movers knew about the missing boxes as well but that did me no good either. insurance which said I did not need an exact inventory of everything in my shipment to make a claim. Allied disregarded that as well. Their final statement was that Dunmar made a search, said they lost nothing, and I could not prove they did. My insurance, which cost a lot and said I did not have to produce a complete inventory, and following their direction meant nothing. Of course, my insurance cost more than the money for the damaged furniture so they made a profit there as well. Dunmar said they looked for my goods, but only in the containers in which they had been stored. I believe that Dunmar either lost my goods in their facility, sent them to someone else, or they were stolen from their facility. The individual they sent to oversee my move could not keep up. He spent most of his time filling in the section of the forms that described my furniture. There was a lot of chaos in their work. Both Dunmar and Allied are desperate not to admit their fault as they are probably afraid of the bad publicity. I did offer to sign a document saying I would not sue if they found my goods. I have moved 26 times, including in the Middle East and Africa. I never lost a box. I had not used Allied before and will not again. There are quite a few moving companies. Do careful research, inventory as much as possible, and take photos of everything. Then, stay away from Allied, and if in Virginia, Dunmar.

Never again! They could’ve cared less about our belongings. mirrors only wrapped in paper, couch pieces not wrapped at all. Every dresser damaged. Precious irreplaceable items like China and real vintage Christmas decorations shattered among so many others. They showed up the first day with only two packers and then made up time the second day (meant for packing the truck) with the full crew by just shoving things in boxes (a custom framed painting was in the same box as a grill brush! shocking how the frame could’ve been damaged!). When they unloaded I watched them drag my cushions across my driveway and lawn! Despicable care. I am devastated by what they have done.

Allied-International-Boston (ABC), USA was terrible. There was lack of or no customer service until it became time to collect payment. The team did not take responsibility and were either unresponsive to emails or answered with single sentences. Sometimes in caps. The team did not respond to my emails on confirmation of the packing date, and the move team showed up unannounced. To date, the main point of contact has never confirmed if I have received my international shipment. This company is appalling and only cares about the money. They could not care less about the customer.

Okay, this will take some time. We used Allied before and they did a fairly good job moving our stuff with minimum damage so we used them again to move for our last time. They saved the worst for last. During crating and packing, they were told to be very careful with our home theater system as it is an extremely expensive setup. They did not take heed when we received our goods. Allied used Coleman to deliver our household goods to our final home in California. Once all the boxes were seen atop the flatbed truck, I knew we were doomed. The items were thrown into wooden crates. Most items were not protected like they were when they left our origin address. Our motorized theater recliners were thrown in without coverings, causing damage to one of the recliners as it ripped from the protruding screws from the box. Our 120" black diamond screen was laying on the back end the protruded from the sides. It was carelessly removed by forklift, yep, screen is damaged. Projector was thrown into a box with a connector still attached and bent the connector. sides were scuffed. Delivery team, VERY unprofessional, carelessly brought all our items. They lifted an expensive speaker by the covering. Wife told them not to do that but she got an eye roll and they continued to carry it into the house. I did not see this and was not told until after they left. All in all, we got nothing but attitude from the team, AND, they delivered a mattress that belongs to another family. Yes, it was clearly written on the mattress. After an exhaustive week of unpacking, pictures and claims submitted, Allied is responsible for over $26k in damages. Coleman was definitely part of that damage assessment. Claim form submitted on Wednesday June 29th. Nothing was heard until I emailed them on Monday July 11th. The claims rep sent an email saying they have received our claim and will have an adjuster out to investigate the damages in 5 business days. She then asked about our address which is clearly marked in the delivery documents AND the claim form. She acted like she did not have it and needed to update o.O Needless to say, I am now very concerned about the complacency of the claims firm. I have called twice and emailed once about the mattress and to have Coleman pick up their misdelivery. No response, no callback, nothing from either Coleman or Allied. I no longer trust these companies for moving. The damage was extensive. We also prepaid for a year of storage. They owe use for 6 months but have not sent the check yet. Another week and we will see but may have to get lawyers involved to get these companies to do their job. I will submit an update later, IF I receive a reply email from them at all.

Worst moving experience ever. They are initially polite, and seem legit, but their method is to load your stuff, unload it into a warehouse, then later reload it and deliver it. However, in this process many items are broken, or lost, and they refuse to take responsibility for the lost items. I lost several chairs, a bookcase, and items necessary to reassemble my bed and desk. They said it was my fault for not checking the packing list when they unloaded, the one that was illegible. Terrible experience.
