This company uses bad business practices. 2 examples: *They allow to return parts but do not verify if a bad part was returned (I got stranded because of that in the middle of nowhere).
*They sell engine oil but for years they don't take the old oil back ("tank is full" - this goes on for years)

This company is the lowest paying in…
This company is the lowest paying in New York out of its competitors. The upper management only care about hitting attachment goals so they can get a bigger bonus. No work life balance. The inventory system is one of the worse and often incorrect. The store is waisting money being open till 9 and Sunday till 8. During the week there is no one coming in after 6 and Sunday after 5 its quiet. The turn around on employees is high because most people that work don’t care about anything or they hire young people that have no people skills and have no clue.

Rebates are a fraud
Local staff are good, but the advertised rebates are basically fraud. AAP will tell you to contact some rebate company that handles the paperwork, and that company refuses to respond. Surely their must be some law firm that could make a class action out of AAP's deceptive practice.

ODB dongle doesn't work for Android - told to visit the store tomorrow
The people at Advance on Durant Road in north Raleigh have always been friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Unfortunately, the corporate stuffed shirts have not aligned policies to provide acceptable customer service.
I bought an ODB diagnostic dongle, connected it to my wifi (after it said Error 001 instead of saying "no internet connection", but it connected after moving the car closer to the house), but it repeatedly failed when it tried to download the firmware to the dongle.
I drove back to the store the next day to return it and was told, "It is corporate policy not to accept an electronic item for return without the manager who is not here. You can return it tomorrow."
Another fellow called today and had not been told any of the details of the return. I repeated and he said he used it without issue. He used an Apple phone, I used a Samsung. That piece of the problem never made it into his head, but should have since I explained it loudly enough for everyone in the store to know.
They said in the store and on the phone that they could not refund the purchase without the physical credit card. My credit card company confirmed that a retailer CAN refund a purchase without storing all the credit card information. Since they cannot, then they need to fix their system.
Can't return without a manager, must return to the store when a manager is there and they are not capable of a refund transaction without the card that the credit card company agreed with me that the do not need.
Incompetent executives is the main problem with the commerce worldwide.

If you ABSOLUTELY KNOW the correct…
If you ABSOLUTELY KNOW the correct fluid, pads, etc. Ordering from here may be an option if they are running a sale or similar
But, the thing that grinds my gears about the website is that in my last experience.
I needed a very specific fluid for my rear diff in my AWD SUV. Versatrak Fluid.
When I put in the info, I had options come up and I purchased 2 - $20 bottles
. and this can mess you up into thinking it will work for your application, instead of saying there is no option. You can't put just any gear oil on that specific vehicle rear diff.
This blunder is not "advanced " as the name suggests.
Also, you can't return with paying for shipping fees .
So If I want to return these bottles,,I'm eating the loss . Otherwise I keep them and get to look at them for a while. Also none of my 3 vehicles take this. So...
The return reason also points at at you shipping mishaps. Not the wrong part options given.
Also it takes away to long to get delivered, unless you pay an arm and a leg for faster shipping
In 2026 , this antiquate method doesn't work.
I'll definitely get my auto stuff from elsewhere

AAP is declining - sell your stock
As an employee of the company of nearly a decade, I can say with certainty that the company has only gotten worse over the years instead of better.
I could say I was one of the lucky ones, in terms of pay, however, they have not given any raises in quite a while.
Part quality has decreased, work load has increased, more things you’re required to do for no bigger pay.
Part of the reason why things are going downhill is a series of bad decisions at the top, cutting staffing, reducing insurance coverages, and mainly…bad pay to the employees which results in both dissatisfaction with your job and lack of care to do better and take care of the customer. How can you expect anybody to be taken care of properly when you’re asking your employees to be satisfied with $11/hr?
Most recently there was a company wide pay cut, so now I’m also part of the mass exodus that’s going to leave the company in a bad spot. There’s no reason for me to keep working for a company that thinks they will get anywhere by reduction of employee pay on top of already low pay. That all leads to low quality help and lack of knowledge of the staff that does work there. If you’re lucky….you would have run into a ASE certified mechanic on staff who would be able to steer you towards what you need and diagnose your issue correctly. Unfortunately, those people like myself are leaving the company….because the company doesn’t value its assets - its people. So…they will leave & overall quality will go down.
The insurance is a bad joke. Only there to appear like they offer it, but it is a joke of coverage. Like…a bad joke. I still can’t afford what they offer…as it’s ungodly expensive with super high premiums on the low end and unaffordable premiums on the high end. & now with pay cut….forget about it.
As a customer, I urge you all to support better companies that take care of their employees. AAP has lost sight of their own and imo, it’s time to bail.
