Five Years as a Customer, Yet Basic Service and Communication Remain a Challenge
Five Years as a Customer, Yet Basic Service and Communication Remain a Challenge As a customer of 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty for approximately five years, I am extremely disappointed with how my recent garage door service request has been handled, particularly the lack of communication, contractor availability, and overall customer service. I initially submitted a routine service request for my garage door, expecting an appointment within a reasonable timeframe. I certainly understand that contractors cannot always respond immediately, and I would have been comfortable waiting a couple of days. However, the first assigned contractor could not schedule an appointment for eight days. With our vehicles effectively trapped inside the garage, waiting that long was simply not practical. After contacting 2-10 to explain the situation, they agreed to locate another contractor. A representative contacted Garage Door Enterprises, and my service request was reassigned, resulting in the loss of my original appointment. Unfortunately, the second contractor subsequently canceled or declined the dispatch, and neither the contractor nor 2-10 contacted me to explain what had happened. I discovered the issue myself while checking the status of my request online, where I saw that the contractor was unavailable. No phone call. No email. No proactive communication whatsoever. When I contacted 2-10 again, I was informed that they had only two available contractors for this type of service. Considering the size of the Hampton Roads region, including Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and surrounding communities, I find such limited contractor availability concerning. Their proposed alternative was for me to locate my own contractor, obtain a diagnosis and estimate, submit the information for review, wait for authorization, and then proceed with repairs based on the approved amount. While I understand that authorization procedures are necessary, this introduces additional steps and potentially more delays when I already have an unusable garage door and vehicles that cannot be accessed. My frustration isn't simply about the repair timeline. It's about the complete lack of urgency, communication, and accountability in coordinating the service. Unfortunately, this isn't my only concern with 2-10's processes. Our home has two separate HVAC systems, and we schedule preventive maintenance twice annually. For approximately five years, their online system has allowed me to submit a service request for only one unit at a time. When I attempt to schedule maintenance for the second unit, the system prevents me from proceeding because an existing request is already open. I then have to call customer service to arrange service for the second system. This is an unnecessary inconvenience, particularly in areas where homes commonly have multiple HVAC units. After years of encountering the same limitation, I would expect a company specializing in home warranties to have improved this functionality. Home warranties are supposed to provide peace of mind and simplify the process of maintaining and repairing a home. Instead, my recent experience has involved repeated phone calls, canceled dispatches, inadequate communication, and being asked to coordinate repairs independently. After five years as a customer, I expect better. I hope 2-10 takes this feedback seriously and improves its contractor network, customer notifications, online scheduling capabilities, and overall service coordination. Customers should not have to continually follow up just to find out whether someone is actually coming to address a service request.
