Let’s address the elephant in the room first, Woodcraft prices are astronomical. That being said, I keep going back to them because their service is so good. My local store is staffed by a bunch of friendly and knowledge folks that are always a dream to work with. Likewise, they got a decent enough selection of wood that’s a challenge to find anywhere else. While I’d advise buying most of the smaller power tools from a big box home improvement retailer (same product, warranty, and significantly cheaper) for anything specialized or wood itself, these are the folks to work with.

Woodworking is one of my hobbies. Used to shop at the woodcraft in Norfolk, but since moving to the mountains, there is not a woodcraft near me. On a recent visit to see her mom, I ask my wife to pick up an item for me. Despite calling the store and requesting that they put the specific item that I wanted behind the counter, the wrong item was waiting for my wife. (Wrong size). A few weeks later I was going through Leesburg VA on my way to Baltimore, so I took the item expecting to do an easy exchange for the correct sized item. The store manager refused to exchange the item, despite having the correct size in stock and carrying the item in both sizes. His excuse was that his store is a franchise. There are lots of franchise stores that I have probably shopped and returned items to not knowing that it was a franchise operation. I do not understand why the Leesburg store manager refused to exchange the item, but I will not be purchasing anything from his store. Last year between Christmas and New Year's I made a rather large purchase at his store which I now regret.

Poor inventory control. Nasty racist customer service personnel. Allegedly in-stock items incurred a month delivery delay. Customer service of the call center told me I should speak better English or return to my country!

Woodcraft will charge you for an order placed regardless of whether or not the order ever gets shipped. In the case where one orders different sizes of dimensional lumber of the same species for a project and they never ship part of the order even though you've been charges then its practically impossible to get the order returned and your money back.

One star due to a major lack of organization with the ordering system and the insufferable attitude of Woodcraft customer service. I generally don't post negative reviews but, after my most recent interaction with customer service, i feel others should be alerted and take heed that this company is beginning to fail. If an item is not available in-store and needs to be ordered, the system completely breaks down and the lack of communication is remarkable. For instance (one of a few recent instances), during the most recent November sale I ordered a Powermatic PM1300 dust collector and a Jet AFS 2000 filtration system. My credit card was charged the same day as the order. After one week I checked the order email and it showed the order was, "in progress." A few days later I checked again with the same results. I decided to call customer service to get a guesstimate on the shipping date so I could arrange for someone to be home when the large packages arrive. The customer service representative stated that the items are on backorder. One item would most likely arrive at the end of December and one would probably arrive sometime in March. The items were shown as in-stock when I placed the order. She stated that indeed the items are, "in progress." I hung up, frustrated, and called the store in Connecticut; the items were in-stock. So, i called and cancelled the order. I was then told that I would not get a refund until Woodcraft contacted their vendors, requested a cancellation of the order, received confirmation of cancellation and processed my cancellation. Unsatisfactory! So, my take on the process is that Woodcraft sends dozens of fliers that offer items for sale that are not available, charges their customers the day of the order, does not inform their customers that the products are unavailable and then makes it difficult to refund the order after a customer is aware that the item is back ordered.

Their prices might not be the best but their customer service is excellent. Always get good and free advice, and I have not had issues with returns. The local store always gives my free shipping on purchases over $35. They cut the lumber if it does not fit my little car at no extra cost. The free clases are very good and they always get good outside resources.
