It was...just ok.
This is the second Sak Yant I have done in Chiang Mai and this experience was not as good as the past one. I did not go through any 3rd party tour operator, I did the planning all in my own. I want to make that clear based on the company’s response to this review. We were transported to a very dingy home where we all had to sit outside in their kitchen area for 5 plus hours (since we had a group of 6), then it rained and flooded the area. The interaction with the Arjan was basically nothing - even when my husband told him some pretty heavy information about his life, there was no discussion. The assistant to the Arjan was on Tik Tok the whole time. Then two other people showed up with coffees and talked and were on their phones with volume up, even when the Arjan was doing the blessing. The room we were in was dirty and dark. The actual Sak Yant tattoos were good though and we video'd the blessing and then Googled translated it and it was legit, so we were happy about that. It was unfortunate that it was not as nice & meaningful as my first Sak Yant but Arjan Dej is talented.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Kim, and for returning to join us again for another Sak Yant experience in Chiang Mai. It means a lot that you chose to come back after your previous visit with us. We’re glad to hear that you were happy with the Sak Yant itself and Ajarn Dej’s work. At the same time, we’re sorry to hear that the overall environment that day did not feel as comfortable or meaningful as your previous experience. Each Ajarn receives guests in their own samnak, which are personal spaces where local students and community members may also come and go. While this can sometimes feel informal compared to what visitors expect, it is part of the reality of visiting an Ajarn in his own environment. Weather can also play a role during the rainy season in northern Thailand, and unfortunately the heavy rains this year did create difficult conditions in many areas. We appreciate your patience with that on the day. Thank you again for returning to travel with us and for sharing your thoughts. We truly value your continued trust and hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you again in Chiang Mai, or for another cultural experience elsewhere with us in the future.
