Although physical stores are often convenient and helpful, the online store is useless. I’ve tried submitting the same order twice and have yet to be successful. Both orders have disappeared somewhere along the way. They’ve navigated customer support to a glitchy chat bot that drops you more often than not. If you do reach an agent, they don’t follow-up as they promise. I’m honestly not positive that this website isn’t just a scam. Avoid at all costs!

Public Safety Concern Regarding West…
Public Safety Concern Regarding West Marine Rigging Services
Based on my experience working in a West Marine rigging shop, I have serious concerns about the level of training and safety practices provided to rigging personnel.
In my experience, new employees should not be assigned to rigging work without receiving comprehensive, standardized training from the company. I believe there was insufficient instruction on rigging procedures, inspection standards, and critical safety practices before employees were expected to work on customers’ boats.
Rigging is a highly specialized field where mistakes can have catastrophic consequences, including equipment failure, serious injury, or loss of life. For that reason, I believe technicians should receive formal training, hands-on supervision, documented procedures, and competency verification before performing work independently.
My concern is that inconsistent training and the absence of clear, standardized protocols may increase the risk of unsafe work being performed. I believe boat owners should ask any service provider about the qualifications, certifications, and experience of the technician performing work on their vessel and request documentation of the work completed.
These statements reflect my personal observations as a professional supervisor and concerns based on my experiences. I believe stronger training standards and safety oversight are essential to help protect employees, the boating public, and the company itself.
Based on my experience, I observed what I believed to be an absence of comprehensive, standardized rigging protocols and formal training for employees performing specialized rigging work. In my view, the company did not make sufficient investments in the training and supervision necessary for this type of safety-critical work.
I believe that inadequate training, combined with inconsistent procedures and limited experience, can significantly increase the risk of rigging errors, equipment failure, serious accidents, injuries, or fatalities. My concern is that both employees and customers may be placed at unnecessary risk when technicians are expected to perform complex rigging work without the level of training and oversight that I believe is appropriate for the profession.
Core Training and Safety Rules
* Competency Evaluation: Employers must verifythat a rigger has the specific training, knowledge, and experience to calculate load weights, find centers of gravity, and determine proper sling angles. [1, 2, 3]
*
* Equipment Inspection: Rigging gear (slings, hooks, shackles) must be visually inspected by a qualified person before each shift and as needed during use; damaged gear must be immediately tagged and removed from service. [1, 2]
*
* Operational Safety: Safe lifting practices prohibit shock loading, using makeshift knots to shorten slings, or placing hands between the sling and the load during tightening.

Horrible business
It took more than two weeks to start to ship my paint then after it was shipped it took another week when it got damaged in shipping. They didn’t even begin the process of shipping another order. I had to call to tell them to ship another order. Then I lost my discount because they canceled the order and reordered. Then it took another two weeks to ship. Meanwhile instead of painting my boat in April I painted it in June. Then I orders a net. Took over 10 days for it to arrive at the store. Went to the store to pick it up and they lost it! HORRIBLE BUSINESS!
