Three dead drives, painful warranty process and ALL data lost.
I purchased two WD Blue 4TB drives to RAID as a mirror to keep my data safe. After quite some time I worked out the RAID not working was no fault of mine or the two additional RAID controllers I purchased trying to get the drives to work. Instead one of the drives was DOA. I didn't discover this untill finally testing the drives singly. Many weeks and a painful warranty process (involving overseas shipping) later I had two working drives and all my data entrusted to Western Digital drives. This worked well for some time until recently when one of the drives died. Thankfully being mirrored my data remained accessible giving me time to source replacement drive(s). Before getting the opportunity to replace the drive however the second one died. This makes one WD dead out of the box and two WD's dieing in production. I have wasted time, effort and money on three of these WD drives and lost ALL of my data. I haven't checked the warranty status of the drives, I'm not losing my data to WD drives again. The dead drives have been disposed of.
