Slow Processing of Birth Certificate in NYC
Hi - For a driver's license renewal (and a new passport) I needed to have a proof of identity, including a birth certificate. Supposed to take up to 8 weeks from New York City (an anomaly- some places take 3 days). I got an extension for my driving license -- but found my time running out. The problem is that it was 8 weeks AFTER they process your request -- mine took nearly 8 weeks just to get my request (check submitted) "accepted" -- filed in October; check cleared in late December; received the document 2 weeks after that. So the actual work was done relatively quickly (2 weeks), BUT,the "starting point" was Way too Slow (7 weeks). Possibly due to understaffing due to the covid-19 pandemic however.

Hello, Craig. Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, the Health Department is presenting delays in its applications, due to accumulated applications, some offices were closed and others work with a lower volume of employees. We always aim to deliver a great experience, and we are gutted when we don’t meet expectations. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We will use the feedback to make us better and to ensure this doesn’t happen again. These processes are internal to the health department and we have no control over them. We hope to serve you again in the future. Thank you!
