Our mission is to create highly-effective, natural cosmetics that preserve the values and traditions of the Red Yao Women. For over 2,000 years, the Red Yao tribe has lived isolated, high upon the rice-terraced mountains of Longsheng. They developed a distinct culture centered around rice cultivation and hair care. By using the nutrient-rich, Longsheng rice and rituals passed down mother-to-daughter for centuries, the Red Yao women have developed a completely natural method to achieve long, strong, healthy hair that doesn’t grey with age. With only 300 tribe members remaining, we feel it our responsibility to share their story with the world. We work directly with the Red Yao villagers to source their rice, at a premium, to add into our shampoos and hair care products. We use the same Red Yao techniques and rituals, developed over centuries, to hand-make and craft our cosmetics. Due to economic pressures, the Red Yao traditions are vulnerable to extinction within a generation. Along with sourcing rice at a premium, 5% of Viori’s profits go directly back to the Red Yao tribe and preserving the Longsheng area. To learn more, go to www.viori.com.

The first time I used it I really like it. The 2nd time I used it I thought my hair seemed very dry esp the ends. I have dry hair from coloring, highlights etc.. I think my hair needs a heavier moisturizing conditioner. I believe this might work well for people with normal hair but for very dry or brittle hair it is not the best

Thank you for your feedback Tammy! We have a new unscented set of shampoo and conditioner and we feel like this could be a better fit for you. We have heard on several occasions this is our most moisturizing set. Reach out to us at [email protected] and we'd be happy to help get you an exchange.

Stunningly Rejuvenated!
My hair is over 55yrs old, long, super fine (like wavy cotton candy) , graying, and tangles and breaks easily, with lots of split ends, so I refuse to dye it. I’ve also had periodic break-outs of scalp psoriasis my whole life, with itch and embarrassing flaking.
I noticed huge positive differences after just one shampoo and conditioning.
My scalp immediately felt better and I haven’t had a break out since, and flakes have been greatly reduced.
My hair is now so soft and holds its fresh scent, and tangling has stopped to such a great degree to the point where I keep running my fingers through my hair because I can now ...It’s amazing!
over the course of a month I noticed losing way less hair, and new regrowth is way more obvious, and I’m able to see huge improvements with ‘dusting’/trimming the split ends
It’s been about 4 weeks with four shampooing and conditionings once a week because my hair now stays so clean and manageable and fresh and voluminous that I don’t have to wash it as often
I noticed that my gray seems to be subtly reduced and new hair growth coming faster/thicker/darker/youthful ...I started feeling ‘bristles’ on my scalp and was floored at the new hair coming in.
I purchased all three fragrance shampoo/conditioner combinations and they all smell delicious. (This review pertains to the Citrus scent) I purchased two of the bamboo pots to keep both my shampoo and conditioner bar dry.
My hair is fine, wavy/curly frizzy, poofy. I usually only roll it/tame it for special occasions. The new-found manageability and altered shampoo/conditioner scheduling means that I don’t ‘have’ to roll it to get it to look nice daily, because my hair holds its natural curl and wave simply with wide tooth combing. If I rolled it, I would definitely expect it to respond appropriately and hold more curl longer, simply by seeing how well it has responded without rolling.
I was worried about the expense at first but the product is so well worth the unexpected benefits. It has changed my life completely by changing my scalp comfort, hair manageability/styling/self-care routine and mood/self-esteem. I really wish I had this earlier in life, but I’m so happy to have it now.

Bald spot after 2 weeks of use
So I loved the smell of this and enjoyed it alot until my hair fell out. I thought it was just a bit more breakage at first but I have an actual bald spot the size of the bar on top of my head. This is where I would rub it to get a lather. all the hair in that spot fell out. I am assuming it's an allergic reaction or something and have called a doctor but just an fyi this is my experience. Been using it daily for two weeks.the company gave me a full refund with out me even asking. I just contacted them to let them know in case it happens again. Love the company but I must be allergic or something.

We are so, so sorry you experienced this. Our ingredients are extremely mild and common in most bar shampoos, however, even if this is an allergic reaction we want to take care of you, period. Send a message to [email protected] and we will do everything we can to help you! Once again we care, and really want to try and help, please message us.

Great Motto. Product Not Natural
Viori has a great motto and I do believe that the company is doing as they say by helping the Red Yao tribe out. Their packaging is gorgeous too.
As someone who lives an incredibly pure, organic no chemicals, uses herbs from nature, eats super healthy...I found myself really disliking the smell of the citrus Yao shampoo bar and conditioner bar. It smells like chemically dish soap and very artificial smelling. It’s so strong that I can’t keep it in my home, it’s sitting on the porch, lol. Now, if you’re use to chemical smells it won’t bother you. I’m use to smells from nature. When products are scented with pure organic essential oils they smell a certain way, this product for sure isn’t 100% pure...it’s obvious :)
I have oily fine wavy hair, so I purchased the Citrus Yao, which is recommended for oily scalp. It did remove the oil and leaves my hair very shiny. The shine almost scares me, it’s like someone coated the hair in shellac, seems so unnatural. It also takes away my natural wavy texture, so my hair ends up being flat and very straight. When you have fine hair you don’t want your hair flat. This may be good if you have very thick/ oily hair that’s super frizzy. I also did notice a lot of hair fall out with this product and yes I followed the instructions to a T on how to use the bars.
The key thing I noticed is how much the shampoo bar lathers, which indicates it is formulated with some chemicals of sorts to get it to lather. I did take a risk buying this and ignored some of the chemical ingredients which I’m now reading on the list. Their first ingredient listed Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (when you take coconut oil and manipulate it...chemical). Commonly used in the beauty industry as a surfactant. It’s ingredient #1 on the list which means it is the ingredient that is most prevalent. High levels of Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate can cause organ failure. I’m sure Viori is following the law and using a small amount that is approved by the FDA. I’m chemical free so this is no bueno for me no matter how small amount is used. This may not bother you, so carry on with your bad self...who am I to judge you?!
I’m going to make the fermented rice water myself via some YouTube research and try that instead. This is who I am. I believe in using pure ingredients straight from nature. I have like 20 gray hairs, I love my grays...let’s promote self love! If you are this way too, steer clear of viori. If you’re ok with chemicals go ahead buy viori, lol.
Bottom line: the product needs work, it’s not as pure as it’s marketing claims. Why not just sell the fermented rice water? Because it will cost more, is harder to maintain freshness for longer periods of time and America just isn’t set up in a pure natural way. It’s no one’s fault, we are all products of the system and societal programming that has made money off of us. So people and companies operate from this level. More and more people are saying no more of this. You do have a choice as a consumer to research, seek out better ways, and better products so you live a longer, healthier life and not expose yourself to things you don’t need to that may damage your body in the future.
P.S. This is an honest opinion and experience. I believe Viori could benefit from input from its customers and improve if they choose to. I hope they do.

Great Bars
These shampoo bars have done me well and I really love them. They also really work well for the curly hair method if anyone is curious. They also work well in hard water which is a great find.
I would note that I think Viori should make their efforts more clear to actually create an impact where they are taking the rice from. Having read one of the negative reviews on here and their response to it, I understand more how they maneuver this relationship. Donating 5% is always going to seem like a cop-out, they should further explain the mark-up. Also, the advertising needs to focus more on this being a mutually beneficial relationship, because the ads do make it feel like they might be taking advantage of them for marketing if you did not do any further research into it.

Wow! So happy I tried it!
Ater I opened and smelled the shampoo and conditioner bar, I was going to give them away due to the strong smell. My husband told me he wanted to try them. Really? I was shocked. I'm so happy he did otherwise I would have never seen the benefits. My husband always has dry flaky scalp and after one use his hair became soft, shiny, and no flakes!! I was blow away. I have used only a few times myself over several weeks and my white hair in front has a spot that has grown in brown. Exciting! Side note; My husband said it's not for daily use....unlike me he read the instructions.

I don’t think I’ll buy a second bar
Pros:
At first, I was in awe of how shiny the shampoo and conditioner make my hair! I’ve been using this shampoo every day (I wash my hair daily) for two months now. My hair is silky smooth, I can’t say I haven’t gotten any more gray hairs since I haven’t been using for too terribly long. It’s helped a little bit with having an itchy scalp as well. I have sensitive skin so other shampoos have caused a reaction.
Cons:
As other reviewers have stated, the scent is so so very strong, it’s pretty ridiculous how anyone wouldn’t get a headache from the smell. It’s very perfume-y (I got the citrus one) so it’s hard to believe it’s all natural. The smell, however, does dissipate after a few weeks. Either that or you get used to it, I’m not entirely sure.
The other major con for me, which I haven’t seen any other users state, is that it’s making my hair fall out at a pretty rapid rate! It’s troubling me a bit, I am not used to 20+ individual hairs falling out while in the shower AND now I have to clean my hairbrush pretty much daily because of the fallout. Before I would get maybe 5-7 hairs falling out in the shower and then maybe 20 or so on my brush. Again, I haven’t seen other reviews with the same problem. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I shower daily. It’s not hurting my scalp so I doubt it’d be due to an allergy.
Edit: Although the company suggests my hair fallout is due to incorrect usage of the bar, I have only used suds from my hands and put that onto my hair. It takes forever to get enough to actually clean my scalp but I honestly never thought to put the bar directly onto my hair, that seems counterintuitive to me. It’s been 3 months now and my hair fallout continues and the overall thickness of my hair has noticeably decreased. I’ve noticed more grays than before so that is a myth about the bar, more likely the genetics of those who live in the region the resources are harvested from.

Thanks for the feedback Cheryll. We really appreciate it! I just wanted to make a quick comment here that will hopefully help you on your customer journey with us. 99% of the time, when individuals say that more hair is falling out while using our products is because they are pulling their hair with the bar while they are using it. As you can imagine, with liquid shampoo, this is never something you have to pay attention to. Put the liquid in your hair and lather, simple. However, with any shampoo and conditioner bar on the market, you have to make a conscious effort not to pull on your hair as you use these products. That is why we encourage customers to watch our tutorial videos to better understand how to use a shampoo and conditioner bar in the most effective way. We hope that helps! If you are still unhappy with our products, we would be more than happy to refund you. We know bars are a new experience, but the impact no-plastic packaging and sustainable ingredients has on the planet is worth the effort! If there is anything we can do to earn a 5-star review from you, let us know at [email protected]. Amazing product for thin hair!!
I have been using Viori shampoo and conditioner bars for about a month. I have very thin and fine hair that I wash everyday and my two main concerns were 1) how long will the bars last and 2) will they lather up nicely. I can tell you this is the best product I have ever used in my hair and I'm a sucker for products that claim to thicken your hair. The lather is DIVINE. And I am so surprised that the bars aren't even down 50% in size so I know I have a lot of use left in them. I did order the bamboo holders which I believe helps make them last. The smell is strong but not in a bad way, and it's pleasant in your hair, not overwhelming. My hair looks shiny and feels so good! Definitely recommend!!!
