This is a summary of prior reviews along with a summary of post installation problems. As stated in an earlier review, the Viewrail Order/Delivery process was tedious at best. I spent hours on the phone and writing e-mails documenting shorted materials, damaged materials, color variances, and inappropriate credit card charges. Somehow Viewrail viewed this as normal and never seemed to acknowledge how much of my time it took to pull them along. Installation went well but I have over 40 years of construction experience. This is a DIY system so be sure you know what you are getting into when you purchase. There's a "million" parts and pieces. Finally post installation. I have been experiencing a persistent problem with cables that start out snug and tight but droop over time. After snugging up the cables once or twice the adjustment will bottom out. When this happens you have to disassemble the system, cut off the crimped screw fastener, install a new one on the now shorter cable, and reassemble the system. This only happens on the long side of my deck, the short ends have been fine. Viewrail was nice enough to sent 6 additional crimped screw ends for free. I since required more but Viewrail now wants to charge $5/ea. plus shipping. They also accused me of cutting the cables too long. I double and triple checked cable lengths before installation so I know they were as Viewrail prescribed. Stainless cable does stretch. The Viewrail system allows for the same amount of cable length adjustment regardless of length of cable run. The longer the run, the more stretch the cable will experience. If your run is over 30 feet you will likely experience this problem so DO NOT SEND YOUR TOOLS BACK for the $100 refund. Also get 10 or 12 extra crimped screw ends. In summary, my recommendation is find another system - the Viewrail system just isn't worth the hassle!! BY THE WAY, ORDER,DELIVERY AND ASSOCIATED PROBLEMS WERE PRE-COVID 19

Hi Jim, We sincerely apologize for the issues you experienced. We work hard to deliver a great customer experience, and it sounds like in your case we failed to do that. With the current situation with Covid, we've been trying to balance an increase in customer demand with keeping our employees as safe as possible. This has meant at times working with a reduced staff which has led to some occasional issues. We know this isn't your problem, and but we hope you understand that we have been trying our best to deliver great stair and railing systems to our customers. As for your installation struggles, we appreciate hearing the feedback. This hasn't been a common issue that our customers have experienced, but we will take a look at this and determine if an adjustment to our install instructions is warranted. If you have any outstanding issues, please direct them to our sales manager at [email protected], and he will ensure you are taken care of in a timely manner.

I'll try to make this succinct: 1. If you use their "contact us" in hoping to guidance for your project, hope again because the person is simply a sales person and knows nothing technical about the products this company sells. 2. If you're not a carpenter who does railings and stairs for a living or work for this company, I suggest you look elsewhere. My biggest gripe is that as a DIYer, there are and will be things I don't even know about to ask. Your sales person nor the folks "engineering" your custom order will not bother to get things right for you. For example, I order the cable rail system and wanted a side mounted set up. I watched a few videos and it appears that they can either be screwed in or bolted. My "designer" or "engineer" never bothered to even run this by me to get my order right. Another example, I wanted wooden rails instead of metal and I saw on my quote that poplar was the choice of wood which I was fine with. But when it arrived, it wasn't dyed or anything at all. If you look at any of their gallery shots, the wood in the pictures or that beech/mahogany colored stain. I was under impression that this would be the stain used on my order as well. I went back and forth with the "designer" over multiple emails and phone calls and not one mention of this really important detail. Now, you may say that this is simply my fault for overlooking this error but by ordering from this company, you're hoping for a little hand holding! You're paying a premium for their products and you're hoping for that level of service! 3. I specifically mentioned to my "designer" that I will be installing this system myself and would need as much directions as I can get. She ensured me that everything would be provided and there are videos on youtube and their site to help you along. Before you do anything, look at the mess of videos they have. Its credible how disorganized their videos are and they seem to cover the same thing in each one but with a different instructor! LOOK ELSEWHERE!

Hi Dave, We deeply apologize for the issues you experienced. We strive to deliver great products and customer service to our customers, and it sounds like in your case we failed to do that. We hear your feedback about the clarity of certain pieces of information throughout the ordering and installation process, and will look at making adjustments there. We try to ensure each customer understands every aspect of their order before placing it. However, it sounds like we failed to do that in your case. Our primary goal is to create exceptional railing systems that are accessible to both professionals as well as DIYers, and we will continue to strive to improve our processes and information to make that happen. If you have any outstanding issues, please direct them to our sales manager at [email protected], and he will ensure you are taken care of in a timely manner.

I ordered the Rod Railing System and am a DIY'er. I felt from the beginning it was like pulling teeth to get my "design consultant" to help. She was consistently rude and made me feel as if I was bothering her to get my order correct. There were several mistakes made throughout the process of ordering and I had to be the one to find them when I was totally unfamiliar with the system. When I received my product and had paid I stopped getting responded to and had to call and practically beg to get service and then it was rude service. Now I do want to make it clear that when I called the technical help line they were very helpful and pleasant , it was just the design consultant I was assigned that was not helpful or pleasant. Now I finally figured out the rodtite system by studying on line videos and sitting staring at the system for hours then I find I was not sent handrail supports that go into the wall. Of course when, after 3 phone calls, I finally got called by her she tells me "she can't tell if she was at fault for the the order not being complete and it was going to be 15 days to received it.Hmmmm well guess what she gave me the bid with "everything" I would need and the handrail attachments into the wall are NOT on there. Also I couldn't figure out why the plate in the box for the handrail bracket was rounded, well surprise!, she sent the wrong plate, it is for rounded handrails, mine are square. So somehow I get to wait 15 days!!!!! As a side bar the directions for the rodtite system being put into a wall not a post suck at best!! Along with NO video. I believe this company and product are good but if you get a person that is rude and it is a female I would run for the hills. Your Ordering process will be horrible and then you probably won't get what you need.. When you are unfamiliar with the system it multiplies the confusion x10 when you can't make sense of the wrong product being sent. If you at the company actually read this you really need to make your directions more user friendly and organized for the customer that wants to try installing on their own. Unless that's the point, you don't. Your "design consultants" don't appear to really care that they are providing a service and are supposed to be the experts on the product and what is needed to accomplish the project- at least that's what they claim.!!

My previous review only covered the ordering and shipment process which was bumpy at best. Just finished installation which went very well. There’s a lot of parts and pieces so stick with it. If you plan to use a wood handrail, do yourself a favor and get 1 inch stainless screws. The ones that come with the package are too short and small to hold properly.

Our View Rail Stainless cable railing system looks great. View Rail was very detailed in designing their system, thinking of even the smallest of details to ensure your completed railing looks its best. I rated 4 stars out of 5 because View Rail accidently provided one pack of a larger diameter cable steel insert sleeve which didn't fit in the post holes. This was not identified until all of the cables were installed and tensioned. Fixing this required a great deal of additional work to complete the project. Overall, I am very happy with my View Rail system, View Rails customer service was helpful and I would recommend View Rail cable railing system.

As a custom home builder we expect good product, communication, and timeliness. Viewrail is NONE of these things. 1) Scott works for viewrail and does not respond until 3 weeks later, but only if you reach out to him again. Then he responds with a rude attitude stating "email someone else" and "go with another company then" 2) missing parts that not only cause building delays, but causing financial expenses out of my pocket bc I now have to pay my guys when they expect to work but cannot bc were missing parts viewrail did not send. 3) Scott also demanded I write I good review for viewrail in order for him to quote me. 4) like other bad reviews, when you step on the stainless steel cable, it pops out easily(2 year stepped on it, and it popped out). Stainless steel should not do this. I could go on and on, but all you need to know is it's an extremely unsafe product that could seriously hurt someone, like it did my son. Not to mention horrible customer service...and who wants to deal with all that?!
