The part I ordered, after company confirmed it would fit, did not fit, they charged me for shipping, to get to me and when I needed to return it, they were unresponsive. I emailed and called left many messages, no response.
I ended sending it back on my own and had to pay shipping again. Company charged me 18 percent return fee. This company is truly deceitful. Don't bother dealing with them.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I was unable to locate an order using the name provided with this review, so I’ve requested some additional information from you so I can find your order and look into what happened. I’d like the opportunity to review the details, including the return and restocking fee, and make sure your concerns are properly addressed.
Thank you,
Gwen

Do not buy from this company
Do not buy from this company. I have been trying to reach them about a order I placed. Right after I placed it i realized I ordered the wrong size hinge. I called and kept calling hoping to reach someone to cancel the order. Not 1 person called back and 4 days later the order was sent. Now im out 67.00 will not be able to return it because you need to speak to a person before returns are allowed to be sent back.
This company is a scam. I wish I checked reviews before I even did business with them.

Hi, I’m sorry for the frustration and that we didn’t follow up with you sooner. I was able to locate your order and review what happened.
Your order was placed on Saturday of Labor Day weekend, and our Customer Service team was closed for the holiday weekend when you called on Saturday and again on Labor Day. Unfortunately, the order shipped on Tuesday before we were able to get to your voicemail and stop it.
I’ve issued a full refund for the order and have also followed up with you directly by email with the details. I’m sorry we weren’t able to catch your cancellation request before the order shipped and for the lack of communication along the way.
Thank you,
Gwen

%100 GARBAGE
%100 GARBAGE.
4 new large "wrought iron" barn door hinges on cedar doors i built, promptly snapped in half.Door collapsed damaging both doors and other hinges.
I immediately contacted cust.serv.with pictures and politely requested replacement or refund.
They said no.
They are made of cheap garbage metal.
Never to be trusted again. Stay away.
Response from Van Dyke's RestorersMay 7, 2026
We’re very sorry to hear about the damage to your doors. These hand-forged strap hinges are generally intended for decorative and lighter-duty rustic applications, and larger barn doors often need additional structural support or heavier-duty hardware designed specifically for the size and weight of the door. Our customer service team will also be reaching out directly to continue working with you on a resolution.
Thank you,
Gwen

Tried to call to cancel an order
Tried to call to cancel an order. Couldn't get through. Sent an email to cancel. The next day, I get an email saying my order shipped. I wrote again. They responded, saying it can take days for them to respond to email and to call instead. What a bunch of crap. I will NEVER buy ANYTHING from them again.,
Response from Van Dyke's RestorersApr 29, 2026
Hi Jonathan,
I’m very sorry for the frustration this caused—that’s not the experience we want you to have. We understand you were trying to cancel because it seemed like your order hadn’t shipped, and you weren’t able to reach us in time.
The item in your order was listed with a 5–7 business day shipping window, and it did ship on the 7th business day. That said, we completely understand how the lack of communication made it feel delayed, and we apologize for that.
We clearly fell short in making it easy to reach us, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. Our team will be reaching out to you directly with additional information and to help resolve this situation.
Thank you,
Gwen

Unable to return mislabeled items - Scam
I ordered a set of hinges that I found through searching "cabinet hinges" on their website, the hinges are much too thick to work as cabinet hinges and so I have been trying to return them for 3.5 weeks now, however, every time I call customer service (and wait 20 mins for an agent) I am told a return slip will be sent to me shortly and to date have not received one. AND, even if I am able to process a return, as I will keep calling, there is an 18% restocking fee to return an item that is useless to me because it was mislabeled.
I received an email from them to leave a review for the hinges, and I did, which amounted to the same expression as here, and low and behold it's not on the website, so I assume they filter critical reviews as well.
So, in summary, I am unable to return a mislabeled item that I cannot use for my application. This amounts to scamming as far as I'm concerned and I will be taking whatever action I can.

Hi Nell,
I'm so sorry for this. If you can email [email protected] Attn: Gwen - I would be happy to look into this for you. If the product is mislabeled, we will not charge a restocking fee - but I do need some details so I can look into this and get it fixed for you.
Thank you,
Gwen

This is a follow up after my previous…
This is a follow up after my previous review on 7/15/25. Unfortunately, I had yet another bad experience with VD's Restorers customer service. I called to return two hinges and a doorknob due to poor quality and was told I’d receive a return label. Eight days later—still no label, just more promotional emails.
I called back and was met with more condescension. The rep insisted the label had been sent, but I couldn’t find it in any inbox. When I asked if it might’ve come from a different email address, he vaguely said a supervisor named “Riley” sent it. Still, nothing in my inbox.
I then asked which email they had on file. He refused to tell me, saying it was the one I used to place the order. I only have one email, so this didn’t add up. After being repeatedly interrupted and nearly hung up on, I insisted he read the email aloud—it wasn’t mine. When I corrected him and spelled my email, he claimed that was what they had on file all along.
To make things worse, he said the return label was for two items, even though I was returning three. When I asked for clarification, he condescendingly responded, “One plus two is three.”
Despite remaining polite throughout the call, I was treated with disrespect and given the runaround. This company makes returns unnecessarily difficult and their customer service is consistently rude and dismissive. And to top it off, they’re still charging me an 18% restocking fee plus return shipping. I’ve completely lost faith in this company. So far, I have not received a return lable, but I did recieve another sales add.

TJO,
I want to sincerely apologize for the frustrating experience you've had with our customer service team. That is absolutely not the experience we aim to provide, and I deeply regret the repeated inconvenience and disrespect you’ve encountered.
Please email me at [email protected] Attn: Gwen so I can personally look into this situation and make things right.
I’m truly sorry for the delay in getting your return label, for the confusion around your email address, and for how your return request was handled. What should have been a simple process turned into a frustrating ordeal, and you deserved better.
Again, I apologize—more than once—for the poor service, the miscommunication, and the unnecessary frustration. Thank you for your patience, and I hope to hear from you soon so I can address this directly.
Thank you,
Gwen

AVOID!
I would strongly caution anyone considering ordering from Van Dyk’s Restorers. I spent over $600 with them, and what I received was beyond unacceptable — multiple damaged items, hardware sets missing critical parts, and not a single ounce of accountability from their customer service.
What they don’t tell you upfront is that they rely on drop shipping, so quality control is completely nonexistent. When I called to request an exchange — not even a refund — for the broken items, I was told, bluntly, that it didn’t matter. They refused to help, made zero effort to make it right, and were shockingly rude in the process. I was stunned at how dismissive and unprofessional they were.
This is not a reputable company. Their business model is cheap and careless, their customer service is hostile, and if something goes wrong (which it very likely will), you will be left footing the bill for broken, incomplete merchandise. Avoid at all costs.

Thank you for your message, and I sincerely apologize for the confusion around our guarantee policy.
Our customer service agent was following our standard policy, which requires that we’re made aware of any plant or product issues within 90 days of receipt. However, we completely understand that this was a faulty product issue, and we will absolutely stand behind it.
Jarrod from our team is reaching out to you directly to discuss next steps and ensure we make this right. We truly appreciate your patience and the opportunity to correct the situation.
Regards,
Gwen
