I booked the "3 Nights in Dubrovnik" deal. I looked up travel dates for September 2021. All of the three offered hotels were completely unacceptable. One hotel was 107 km from Dubrovnik away (a 1.5-hour car drive from Dubrovnik), one hotel was on an island in the Adriatic sea, a 3-hours journey from Dubrovnik away. The third hotel was "only" 14 km away from the city; however, this appartment hotel has room rates at 39 EUR per night published online (compared to 297 EUR that I paid to unsold.com for three nights). Apparently, none of the three hotels that are mentioned as "previously received examples" on the unsold.com site for the promotion of the Dubrovnik deal (which were all 5* hotels right in the city) were offered. On the positive side, I want to mention that the unsold.com-support team was very professional and fast and followed my request to cancel the deal and to refund the full price. Thanks to the fast reply of the support-team I give this rating a second star. I would love to book another deal with unsold.com *IF* I knew that the offered hotels are at least somewhat similiar to the "previously received" hotel examples on their webpage.

I don't normally use these type of sites but I I tried unsold for the first time yesterday. Before using them I researched the company and the reviews seemed good. However after booking, I feel totally deceived. I played the secret hotel game and paid for a 5 star hotel in Cannes, France and upon purchase was assigned a 4 star hotel. ( both the hotel itself and the Cannes tourist office listed the hotel I was assigned as 4 star) At the time of purchase there was the option of a 4 star hotel at a much lower cost but I chose the 5 star. I hate to feel tricked so I contacted customer service, the answer was for me to send a screen shot proving that the hotel was 4 star ( I have done this) but the solution they offer is to cancel the booking if I can prove that it is 4 star, they do not offer a 5 star hotel option. It's peak tourist season so many last minute options are booked so now I'm stuck with the 4 star reservation as getting anything else is just too time consuming. The 4 star hotel is ok, not amazing (no pool and and expensive overpriced beach) The price discount was true, but the hotel rating sold was a lie. Unsold is just a waste of time and energy for a bait and switch game. I am to check into the hotel Friday night and I'm wondering if the rooms I paid for will even be available. Review of final hotel experience to follow. We checked into the hotel - it was indeed a four star not 5. The mystery hotel was the Hotel Barriere - Le Gray d'Abion Cannes. Our reservation was real and the discount in relation to the hotel prices was true. (I have posted a fuller review of the hotel on trip advisor.) After I sent proof twice of the 5star swap to a 4 star hotel the customer service response was one line - we're uncertain what action you want us to take. And so that was followed with an angry message from me demanding an apology and truth in sales practices. This my third email to customer service got the attention of management. We were contacted by phone, the company apologised for the mistake and offered a 40% reimbursement on the cost of the reservation. Even with this reimbursement I still paid 100 euros more for the night than the 4 star hotel in the same town that was advertised. I am pleased that they have promised to re-categorise the hotel as 4 star. I now understand why there are so many positive reviews as they have contacted us several times to request that I remove my review which I have refused to do. I feel the truth should be told along with the solution offered. Other travellers should know what they are dealing with. Personally I am very wary of this company as it was not my initial complaint or the fraud that was committed but my negative review that got their attention. I wonder have they contacted all the other clients who bought into the same sale of a 5 star hotel only to fraudulently be assigned a 4 star hotel. I'm sure I wasn't the only person assigned that hotel, did other customers also get an apology? My review stands as I think it is important for future customers of Unsold to know that this mistake happens and that it wasn't solved with a simple email pointing out the mistake but took several messages and proof. Our vacation was negatively impacted by this experience and the emails and telephone conversations that resulted in having to deal with it. In the end, this is really a first world problem, the problem revolves around the categories of high end hotels but that is what this site deals with and I hope that in the future they improve their business practices. We weren't able to have a 5 star experience in Cannes and as such ended up at a hotel without pool (a problem when you travel with kids).
