This was my first experience with Tropical Birding and I know it will not be my last. I arrived at the Hotel Quito a couple of days early for the Northern Ecuador, birding with a camera tour, and after meeting Jose, the guide, and Edison, the driver, early on the first morning of the tour, we were treated with true professionalism. Everything went smoothly and the birding was beyond my expectation. Jose took the time to make sure we saw all the birds and answered any questions we had, a very knowledgable guide. Edison, the driver, was polite and helpful, and often pointed out other birds for us. The Lodge at Tandayapa was everything I expected, with feeders around the property buzzing with many species of hummingbirds. The food was plentiful and of the highest quality. The day trips from the lodge always left on time and driving time was spent getting to know each other and get any questions answered. Each day was spent at a different ecozone with so many different species of birds, the knowledge of Jose was staggering. A mudslide prevented us from getting to the Guango Lodge, but alternate plans to stay in Quito ensured that the birding still went as planned. A truly amazing experience, all the staff were excellent, I would absolutely recommend Tropical Birding to anyone with an interest in birds

Tropical Birding puts together very good tours with great locations, great guides, and good accommodations and food. They would be one of our first choices when we decide to do another birding trip.

Our tour was handled in a very professional manner. Pre-tour correspondence was informative with timely responses. The tour itself exceeded my expectations both in the actual birding experience and the outstanding ability of our tour leader, Jose Illanes, to manage the tour, plus identify the birds.

Great group, well thought through itinerary, good food and accommodation and a truly extraordinary guide. Birding far exceeded expectations.

I throughly enjoyed this tour. It was my first ever organised birdwatching trip and I traveled alone so I arrived at the start nervous and not really knowing what to expect. Fortunately the group dynamic was excellent with everybody getting along well and our leader Andres managed to balance the days to accommodate everyone’s wishes. We saw everything we set out to see and a few surprises were thrown in. Accommodation was fine and generally meals were good with an odd exception . The initial rental minibus could have been better and comfort improved once this was changed by the car rental company part way through the tour

Good birding adventure, missed White-tailed Ptarmigan. May need another site since Loveland Pass is heavily used and birded. A little more advanced information on leks and blinds would have been helpful for personal preparation. Good group of participants and size. Van could have been more user friendly for luggage.

We travelled to Ecuador with a young family (children aged 10 and 12) and had a truly wonderful experience. Our guide was extraordinarily knowledgeable, thoughtful and friendly. Ecuador is an amazing place to see birds (with 459 species in one two-week trip) and the other fauna and flora is mind-bogglingly amazing (spectacled bears - wow!). Great food and accommodation.
