Hidden fees, intentional runaround, worse than payday loan companies
No one expects great service from cell carriers anymore, but T-Mobile is so terrible that it actually hurts. Monetarily and emotionally. I was late to pay a bill, and was shocked to see what the late fee was. It would be the equivalent of a 100% APR on a loan. That, in addition to all of their other creeping fees convinced me to finally close my account. But they didn't just let me close my account. They gave me the runaround. After I closed my account they refused to give me a pin to transfer my number to another carrier. So they made me pay $20 to reopen my account in order to get the pin so I could transfer my number. But even then they wouldn't give me the pin. They told me I had to go into a store in order to get a new pin since I didn't remember my account pin to an account that I had tried to close. So I went to a store location and spent two hours waiting around only to be told that it was impossible to get a pin. So I spent hours on the phone and online the next 48 hours trying to get a pin so I could transfer my account. Then when I finally got help, I asked for a final, itemized bill so I could pay off any outstanding amount so I could be done with them forever. They said they would mail it out. Over the next two months they kept sending me a bill that was initially 25% greater than my actual bill, plus additional fees each month, but without any explanation how they came up with that number. Each time I got on the phone asking for a simple breakdown of the bill. Each time they told me they couldn't help me because I did not know the login pin to an account I had closed. Each time they said the only option for me was to go to a store location, and there was no other way to escalate the case to someone who was competent enough to simply send out an itemized bill. Long story short, after months of frustration and hours on the phone, I decided to pay off the amount because it is not worth my time to try to get them to stop fleecing me even after I closed my account. But I will tell every human being I know that they deserve any pain they experience if they choose to ignore my advice to never sign a contract with T-Mobile. I rather use carrier pigeons than use T-Mobile.
