Not ready for prime time
I did “the plant life chose us” after a friend had a lot of success. I’m in full blown menopause, and I’ve gained about 30 lbs over the last few years. Quick version: I didn’t find it supportive enough for the price ($2400 for 4 months). Long version, in no particular order: The “plan” is all vegan reduced calorie/fat, and super high protein, like 100 grams a day. My plan was maybe 1800 cals a day. I was never hungry, but it’s a lot of processed soy stuff, which can be challenging for the gut. The “program” is in the Skool app, and it’s challenging to watch the videos Rose does. The videos were chaotic and just too all over the place for me. The trainer/coaches always ask “what can I do to support you?” When they can see what you’re eating and see your workouts, but it doesn't seem to matter -there was zero proactive interaction on their part. I wanted more feedback and support that they initiated, but that never happened. The coaches are not registered dietitians. I’m not even sure what nutrition background they have. They really didn’t provide any feedback on my diet. They just expect you to follow the recipes Rose provides. Unfortunately, a lot of the ingredients, like from Trader Joe’s, just don’t exist anymore, since TJ’s discontinues stuff. You will lose weight and gain muscle, if you follow the macro counting and workouts. The workouts are boring, but of you do them, you’ll get stronger. Again, not sure why you need the coach after they enter the workouts into the Trainerize app. My friend found it helpful, since she was new to weights. The weekly “lectures” by Rose were okay - she talks about how PLCU is a lifestyle, not just a now thing. She does have an “inner circle” you can pay for after the 4 months. The “lectures” don’t seem terribly well planned. One week she admitted she didn’t know what she was going to talk about and would take ideas. I didn’t find that inspiring. She’s really just getting going with this whole thing, and she has a lot of work to do on her communication style. 7. I’ve read in prior reviews that the whole thing seems like an ED wrapped up in a program. I disagree. So many of us have had eating/food issues, so even if Rose or the coaches have battled ED, I don’t see it as being an issue. There honestly isn’t enough interaction to assess it one way or another. I felt very on my own with it all. Like the workouts, the diet got very boring. 8. All of this said, I did lose some weight and I gained muscle! I’m back at the gym, and I’m still meal prepping on Sundays to help me stay on track. Am I still on track? No, but I’m not really gaining weight, so I’m overall pleased. It was interesting to discover that following a fully vegan diet wasn’t that terrible! I’m still not sure I’m happy I did the program though. The cost is tremendous. I don’t think the services provided amounted to $600/mo. I wish I just had a trainer 2x per week. It also wasn’t enough structure and support for the enormous cost. I kept asking for more feedback on my diet and more varied workouts, but that isn’t what I got. I think Rose has a ways to go before this program is ready for mainstream, but she’s on the right track.
