I had my vehicles Insured through Hartford compliments of AARP. We paid for the premium and set for auto pay/auto renew every 6 months. Our insurance was cancelled with no notification of ANY type. When i called in, they said it was due to failure to pay. They stated that they sent me an email notifying us that the premium was due. I did not receive this email, but I did receive one stating that our policy was set to automatically renew and there was no further action needed on our part. They said, well that just means the policy renewed but if you fail to pay, we cancel it. That information was nowhere on the email that I DID receive. We were driving uninsured for 3 months!!! Now - Can't get insurance for a year through them and my new insurance is sky high because I am an "uninsured" driver!!! Guess you get what you pay for. Discounted Insurance = NO customer Service!

It has been a nightmare dealing with this company. Filed a storm damage claim. Had a time sensitive question so I sent emails and voicemails. No return call received. Called the 800# to ask to talk with the newest handler (Changed twice in less than 24 hours) and was rudely advised that they had 72 hours to look at the claim and callback. Left a message for 1 day beyond the 72 hour timeframe. No callback. When I did get called back the representative said that she was calling because I completed a survey. Apparently, she had no intention of calling. You have to rate the handling low to get a callback. They kept switching who is handling the claim and neither person seemed to know who was working our claim. They offered an incredibley lowball offer for repairs that made it useless to even file a claim. Cheaper to repair on my own. We would have to get contractors to dispute and provide "testing" and "substantial documentation" and they might revisit the claim. I know that this is the name of the game with all insurance companies, but this company is the worst I've dealt with. Also, its not very professional to hear a barking dog in the background when they do call you. A friend consistently told me that this company offered a great intro rate and then jacked up rates. Hers went up over $300 in 6 months with no claims or accidents. They did it on our auto policy after 6 months too. I think that I would rather pay more and have an actual human in an office to call than deal with multiple 800#'s and constant rerouting of calls to different people. I guess that rerouting is the name of the game. You get the customers so frustrated that they give up. No company really wants to pay out on claims. This company makes you feel guilty and shows no empathy for customers who have just been through a tornado. More hype about how great their rates are than the quality of their customer service. The service is terrible!!!!

I had auto Insurance with this company for 2 years. My printer at home broke in 2023 and I was unable to print my insurance cards. I used the online app to request insurance cards FOUR TIMES, and the app said that I would receive the cards in the mail. They never came, so I called the company's "Customer Service" number and was assured that I would receive my cards in the mail in 7-10 days THREE different times. I NEVER RECEIVED THEM!! Finally, after 6 months with NO CARDS, I bought a new printer and was able to print them. When my policy was due for renewal, they decided to raise my monthly payments $70.00 higher. I had ZERO claims and I did not cost them any money. When I canceled my policy and went with another company for less than 1/2 of what The Hartford was charging me, they sent me a bill for $50.36. I called and asked to speak to someone about waiving that amount, since I felt that I didn't owe that money. I was told that I would get a phone call from a supervisor within 4 hours. I kept my phone with me the rest of the day, and I did not receive that phone call. THE NEXT DAY, I got a call from someone who claimed to be a manager and claimed that they tried to call me the previous day, then she immediately started telling me that I owed them $50.36. I told her that I had already put a check in the mail when I discovered that their "Customer Service" representative was again lying, and that I would likely not get the phone call. I told her, "You will get your $50.36 and I will be finally be finished with your LOUSY "Customer Service." Good Bye. I hung up the phone, and it feels like a lot of stress has been relieved. I can't imagine another company being as bad as these clowns have been.

Horrible service, I called to change an address in my policy, and I spoke to three different people who kept keeping me on hold for ONE HOUR AND FIFTEEN. and when I asked why they keep putting me on hold she got an attitude. horrible customer service, I just wonder how my service will be if I have a claim

Well as many on here with the Hartford for 8 years , no claims, no more tickets or accidents,and no DUI. My homeowners ins. went up over $700.00 in 13 months with no claims, so I checked others out and switched, and my Auto ins went up the next month over $600 dollars with no accidents , tickets or moving violations, upon calling which is a joke to get the phone number, first you have to speak to the robot and ask for a person then ask the person for the phone number because it is listed nowheres on the web site telling me they do not want to speak with you, so upon getting a person on the phone I was told you unbundled with us, I asked how much was that and was told $170 for unbundle and there was a ratew increase across the State of Delaware. insrance went up 38%..I aske for what , just a rate increase I was told , agent really did not care, even when told a senior on fixed income, Checked with other Car Ins co. and found for 40% less. This company surely does not want seniors, AARP should Flag them as uncaring and deviant insurers

They make it impossible to ever receive your claim. My husband suffered a heart attack almost six months ago and still have not received one cent from his disability insurance. They claim that more paperwork needs to be submitted but when you call them they say all paperwork is fine. You can’t get anything confirmed in writing because they don’t allow you to contact via email. Tactics that are obviously designed to make you give up the fight. If my husband dies from another heart attack I will be holding this company responsible because of all the stress they are causing.

The Hartford tripped over their own automatic billing system, cancelled our auto insurance giving us no written or emailed notice. Next, they refunded over $400 in premium money. This was after having auto and home policies with them for ten years. They also made sure that we could not get auto insurance with them again for one year. We had no tickets, no accidents, paid on time but we did get one windshield ding filled in that ten years. Their compliant form doesn't work. You can't reach their corporate office. AARP needs to drop them. The Stag that's their symbol probably has more brains than the company.

Hartford is the worst company of all time. I always had insurance in my 2 cars. I decided to change because of the better rate that they offered me. After a month, it went up. I pay in front for 6 months of full coverage. I got a letter from Hartford saying my insurance was canceled. I called and they told me the finances were closed on Monday and I needed to be called on Tuesday I called on Tuesday and the automatic machine told me that I don't need to make a payment. I went online and my policy was canceled for $31.00 so they sent me a letter (Customer Service told me that they sent a letter on January 17). I didn't receive it. I pick up my mail every 2 weeks because I travel. I called before and they told me not to worry about it. Never again only because I already paid in full I need to hear them and stick until March 09, 2024—no more. I got enough. Lose more than an hour for every time that I call for this week.
