Where do I even start. I went on disability and filed a STD claim with them in September 2024. They denied my claim over some stupid reason. So, I appealed their decision, and they eventually overturned their decision and granted me STD benefits. I had to gather so much information that was unnecessary to win this appeal. I am told it will be approved and to keep an eye out for my first payment, which will include 6 months at 66.67% of salary. It took almost a month to finally get them to process my first payment. Not even two weeks after they made this payment, they I receive a frantic voicemail from a new analyst telling me it is urgent I call back. After calling twice and not speaking to anyone, I get another voicemail from this analyst who is frantic and telling me to call back. I finally speak to her, and she tells me they overpaid me by $21K and that I need to pay it back. I asked how they came up with this amount and no answer. I got this analysts supervisor's information and told him what had been going on and he agrees that I owe $21K. Once again I ask for the backup surrounding their claim and the supervisor sends me a screen shot of their system showing I had an overpayment, so once again I ask for the backup for the calculations and am told he will get back to me. A week goes by and once again I have someone in the collections department calling and emailing me to set up a payment plan. I wasn't paying a penny until I saw proof of overpayment because I believed I owed nothing. After 3 weeks of going back and forth with them, resending the same information I had before, someone finally listened to my emails and redid the calculation. Now their overpayment amount is decreased to $1,650 from $21K. Not even an apology after the stress they put me through on this "overpayment". And I have to now do another appeal because I don't think I owe the $1,650 they are still saying is an overpayment. What an absolute nightmare it has been dealing with this company. They are shady as hell!!! I filed for an LTD claim as well and that was back in February 2025 and I still have not gotten word on whether it is approved or not. They play this game to delay the entire process, and it is just wrong!! I have worked with other STD companies and never experienced something like this.

I would give 0 stars They upped my Insurance for 2 vehicles $440.00 in 1 year. No claims filed and drivers safety class taken. We were told our Insurance went up because of uninsured drivers. Something that we do not want to hear. Something we should not be responsible for. Then they charge $8 fee for paying by check, credit card or debit card, why...? Then because we took 1 vehicle off the road (we can't afford to pay for the "uninsured" drivers) they charged us $10. Do yourself a favor don't use Hartford. I find it hard to believe their rated #1. They need to be looked into by tge the BBB and State Insurance Regulor.

They don’t honor their quotes. Set everything up on their app and saved it which generates an email with your quote then called to set up the insurance and got a very rude and disrespectful man on the line who keep telling me I didn’t have that quote and changed the price per month twice both of which where significantly high than the quote. Will not recommend that anyone have to deal with that smart mouth person.

I just recieved a notice from my auto lender saying that my auto policy was cancelled and that they will "add" coverage to my loan. I went on The Hartford website and discovered that my policy was CANCELLED. To add insult to injury, last month The Hartford used my auto-pay to steal $833 from my bank account before they cancelled my policy two months before it was to end! Now, their website says that my policy cannot be reinstated! Is The Hartford this hardup for money that they are stealing it from their own customers? No notice and no explanation. They simply stole it from me. Warning: DO NOT USE Auto-pay with this company. They will rob you blind for coverage they refuse to provide!!!!!

We had The Hartford for all of 7 months. We realized we hadn't received a bill, either email or letter, so checked our account and saw that we were cancelled for nonpayment with no reminder or notice. Fortunately, we realized soon enough that we restored coverage and found another carrier with better service. Our new agent said they have multiple people with this issue come to them from Hartford, sometimes not realizing they have been without car & home insurance for months. Lack of coverage can create significant legal issues and impact your ability to even get other insurance.

Buyer beware! This was a terrible experience and continues to be. The company is incompetent, provides you a low rate for 6 months, then nearly doubles the rate. Customer service is non existent and abusive. Do yourself a favor and use someone else!

The Harford is in the business of not paying claims. I've been an insured with them for 5 years for my cars. I have had a property an casualty insurance license for years and am very attuned to how claims adjusters work and how they are investigated. I've never had a claim with them or any other insurer. There is a database that shares this info amongst insurers, so they know the story. My car was sprayed with paint from a contractor building a new house. I submitted a claim and was told that it was customary wear and tear and they denied the claim. Really? Done, would highly recommend going elsewhere for coverage. Bad business practice here.

My husband is dying, yet they continue to hold his payments, demand multiple requests over and over again, his doctor had said that have never worked with such an company who keep harassing them for the same thing, over and over, and are CONSTANTLY threatening to withhold / stop his payments. This man has metastasized prostate cancer, throughout his whole body. Has worked hard his whole life to take care of his family. Now everyday this man is filled with worry we will lose our home, and everything we have worked so hard for. They call on weekends to grill him if he could work. THIS MAN HAS STAGE 4 cancer, and it is hard for him to admit that he cannot work. Any little bit of self respect that he has, they have taken it away. They have made him feel worthless and less of a man for not working. This company is disgusting, and preys on the sick and weak. For 2 years they have threatened his livelihood, leave him the heck alone and let him enjoy what time he has with us.
