I had insurance on my 2023 Equinox with The Hartford through AARP. I had been a customer for 16 years. This year, I was hoping my insurance would go down since my car was a year older. It went up $200 a month, and it wasn't cheap to begin with. My first bill of the new plan was $463 a month. I switched to State Farm and now pay $92 a month for the same coverage. I can almost pay six months for what I was paying per month for the Hartford. It is a complete money grab.

AARP backs Hartford Insurance in its practice of financially abusing elders.
Hartford is disgusting in their practice of financially abusing elders. In six months, my car insurance premium increased by $50.00.
A month ago, their representative told me to wait until my renewal date because my missing discount would be deducted from what I owe. I asked to be told the truth at the time because I wanted time to find a new company if they were going to increase my premium by $50.00 every 6 months. They said, no, I would see a deduction. I called today, I still owe the amount of the increase with no discount.
The company committed extortion by saying that if I pay on the 14th, I will get my 15% discount. Now, they are saying that I already have it. They lied that I was getting a discount to hold my business.
Hartford is through AARP, which is supposed to help us over 65. Oh well, Hartford commits extortion to make sure they get as much money as possible from those over 65, who are possibly living on fixed incomes. AARP does not care how any of its companies treat elders.

They messed up my auto insurance…
They messed up my auto insurance because they did not cancel it when requested. then they sent a claim to debt collector saying that I owe them money.
This will probably affect my credit rating now.
Still trying to resolve this, but keep getting disconnected.

Refused refund after cancellation — poor service for seniors.
I canceled my renters insurance when I moved into a house and no longer paid rent. I notified The Hartford, but they failed to process my cancellation correctly and then refused to issue a refund — even though it was their mistake.
This company is heavily promoted through AARP, but they did not act in good faith. Seniors deserve transparency and respect, not denial and runaround when we follow the rules.
⚠️ If you’re considering Hartford through AARP, be very careful — promises of “senior-friendly service” may not match the reality.

Would leave zero stars
Would leave zero stars. The Hartford is a joke! They will keep asking for the same paperwork that has already been turned in and you only find out they need paperwork if you call in. When I mentioned that paperwork has been returned over a month ago they are like oh yea you’re right. We are going to review everything and it’ll update in your portal. Weeks go by and same thing again. Definitely setting people up for failure.

The Hartford is a scam insurance company that never pays their claims
Well, again, I was denied by The Hartford. I was out of work from 02.17.2025 through today 09.10.2025. The requested paperwork packets, additional information, and then essay questions for my doctor concerning my condition. They claimed so many times they sent paperwork via fax, but my doctors office states never received. When my doctors office has faxed to them, The Hartford claims, never received, and a few times tried to blame me or the doctors office for not dialing the 'correct number'. I started asking for the paperwork to be sent directly to me and would keep the rep on the phone until it showed up in my email. Then I would take it to my doctors office. After all this time and effort, document after document, pages upon pages, denied. The Hartford takes peoples money and does not pay out. I have paid into the system for OVER 27 YEARS! And now when I need it to avoid eviction, they deny deny deny. Avoid this company if at all possible. Do not pay into them if offered through your employer, they will never pay out. Every review online from BBB, Trustpilot, and so many others, all say they same, they are a one star company who never pays their claims.

Good luck in getting paid what is due to you
I went out of work on November 12, 2024 for a quadruple bypass. Went back to work February 12, 2025. It is now September 9, 2025 and my claim is STILL being denied. I've sent ever bit of medical records I had (all 250 pages of it) as I was TOLD TO DO. Just to be told, oh you need to file an appeal to reopen the claim. Every time I sent in medical records, they either didn't get it or it was not the right documentation. Resend what they request over and over. They are doing EVERYTHING to deny a valid claim and not pay out. Never have I ever had such poor customer service than with this organization.
