Same feedback as many other people. I signed up for the free trial and am pretty sure I then cancelled. Despite the fact I get several e-mails from them a week apparently they don't warn you're about to be billed like other companies (e.g. Amazon Prime) do. Today i've been billed for a years subscription I didn't want at anywhere near the price. Some of the articles are pretty good but please don't take up the free trial without looking through some of the feedback online. I did and now regret it

They should have a refund for cancelling subscription within at least 24-48 hrs. Or at least change from monthly to annually and vice versa. It's frustrating. I've learned my lesson. It's like a scam but in a legal way.

Customer service is terrible. My husband mistakenly signed up for a free trial. He thought the first attempt had not worked. He cancelled at the end of the trial. The 2nd account stayed live. I cancelled it and emailed them on the first day of the year’s subscription to explain the error. No response. Full billing. Beware!

Cancelled free trial in February. I’ve just had £59.99 taken from my account despite not signing up for anything. Not happy about being billed for something I cancelled. My iTunes shows no love subscription and shows the trial as cancelled in February. Can’t find any contact details to get my money back either. Unimpressed to say the least

Not worth paying for. All the writers seem to have run out of ideas so the quality of journalism is pretty poor. Considering this is what they are trying to excel at its kinda funny. I struggled along for 4/5 months but have now uninstalled and cancelled subscription for next year. There is plenty of free coverage that is better than what is provided by this company

I had subscribed to The Athletic for 1 yr subscription of $59.99 which was supposed to end April 21. I went into my Athletic account to cancel and it showed that I had no subscription? So I emailed the company and they replied that they didn’t see that I had a subscription? So I ignored it, figuring I was gonna cancel anyway. Low & behold on April 21 I was charged $59.99. I went to my Athletic account and it’s still showing I don’t have a subscription but i still have access to the site but shows I have no subscription? I’ve sent numerous emails stating I want my money returned and cancel my subscription but so far no answer! Not sure why they would scam people because they have good content and writers! Frustrated as hell

Like so many others, after an interesting article appeared on facebook, I started the free trial to read it in full. After reading the article (which wasn't as interesting as I thought it was going to be), I went into settings and turned off the subscription price, which had been set to a year at £59.99. A couple of days later I've been billed at the year's price. Very angry at this and naturally in lock down there appears to be no-one to handle my complaint. I feel like I've been robbed. Avoid 'free trial' at all costs!!!

My bad for not turning off auto renew earlier, but I just forked over AU$100 for a subscription to a sports journalism website during a global pandemic with ABSOLUTELY NO SPORT HAPPENING ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, weeks after losing my job. Doesn't seem like any way out of it. They gave absolutely no notice that it was up for renewal and didn't even send me confirmation of re-subscribing, i just learned it from my bank statement.
