I've used Spideroak One for personal backup for years literally years and never had a problem until the last month where for some reason I couldn't log into my account. I contacted their support team and they replied that they have zero knowledge policy on this free backup service which means they can't access any data held. I replied to them saying that I just wanted to know why I can't access my data which is backed up and they replied once again that they have already told me that they can not access my data. But did offer to delete my account (including all the data) and setup a new one for me free of charge. This is totally unacceptable as what is the point of having a backup service is the account becomes inaccessible and they can't fix why I can't log in. All the backed up data is lost. What a total an utter waste of time. Thankfully I hadn't paid a penny for this service. I warn you all - if you sign up for one of these accounts and you at a later time can't log in then your data is lost as they won't care and won't help you.

Restoring from backup is so slow as to be useless. Dial-up connections in the 90's transferred data faster than this. You start a download for a 2 GB folder and then it sits there at 0% done for an hour.

A single star is still too much. Do not waste your money in this company. To not trust a single word they say about service, reliability and the like. It`s all fake. A backup service is supposed to deliver backups when you need them. A "backup service" that is not available not only hours or days but complete WEEKs in a year - and several times alone in 2024 - does not deserve being named a "backup" nor a service. Opening tickets gives an automatic answer but no real reply. Communication is nonexistent as service is. No previous information about shut downs or back to service (if so). - Since the company changed its focus to space tec etc, earthly users seem to not to be relevant any more. More so: spideroak obviously tries to get rid of its customers. I paid 150 bugs for a service that does not exist. The backup client (written in closed software code) has seen its last update 5 YEARs ago! So - what about security, that the company pretends to offer to its customers? - Spideroak is a real fake business - do not waste your precious time and money in it!

I had a drive failure and have not been able to download my data either via their windows app or their website. I have been trying for weeks to get support and they are stonewalling me. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

SpiderOak has now been down for over a month!! I cannot connect to the server or login via the web interface, so cannot backup or recover files. I have raised 3 tickets, with absolutely no feedback. It looks like their migration to an "upgraded data center" went disastrously wrong, and no communication whatsoever. Stay well away.

Since January 1, 2024, SpiderOak Backup has gone down twice for at least a week each time. They say they are working on moving our stuff to new servers, and it is taking longer than planned. I cannot use a backup service that can be down for a week multiple times. If I needed to recover a critical backed up file, I would not be able to get it from SpiderOak Backup systems. I am switching to a different cloud backup service.

Spider Oak One backup has now been out of action with no communication for over a week. There is no access to backup files and no way to download. Since writing the above Spider Oak is now back in service and seems to be working as normal, but still no communication and so was all a bit disconcerting as had no way of knowing if it would ever return.

I have been a long term user of SpiderOak, and to a certain extent rely on it for syncing. We were informed of an "upgrade" which would take place on the 23rd April... As of today, 30th April, backup/sync is non-functional, the Fedora repos is non-functional, the One Backup website is non-functional and support is non-functional. Incompetent and totally unacceptable/nonexistent customer service. I suggest those affected get in contact with each other and take legal action.
