My child has never been a keen reader. Luckily Sparxreader has put him off for life. So so terrible...surely Schools can do better. Ditch this useless tool

Is this actually designed to put children OFF reading? so dry, tedious, you can't get into the flow of the story if you need to keep answering questions. I am so glad I was a school child before this was invented, I can imagine my son will probably never want to read again when he finishes school after having to wade through this every week!

If I could give zero stars, I would. This sucks all the joy from reading, prevents becoming immersed in the story, and requires memorisation of pointless details. It's awful. I hate it ( parent who loves reading) and so do my kids....both also keen readers.

I absolutely HATE Sparx Reader it genuinely makes me cry. This is such a bad website because it expects me to memorise lines that do not matter and are useless just to get 5 srp. And there are no guides at all so if you fail you just skip the page entirely and do not get any SRP at all. And they also expect you to get 300 SRP just to finish the homework and in later years it goes up to 600! I genuinely hate this website, it is a MASSIVE waste of time because it makes me, and so many people stress and overall just makes reading fell like an endless chore.

Child so disappointed with the changes to Gold Reader status. Before changes once gold reader was achieved child could read a physical book of their choice and upload the book reference number and reading this could be counted towards homework. Now this has been stopped so whats the point of gold reader ? No reward now and child cant read book of choice but has to read a book suggested for them that they dont really want to read. This is not a very good way to make children engaged in reading if they have to suffer books they aren't interested in and have no hope of a reward.

Sparx is a disgrace of an educational platform. I'm not criticising it because I hate homework, but because it turns learning into a stressful, unrewarding and unnecessarily miserable experience. Students spend ages answering difficult questions for pathetic fractions of points, face ridiculous jumps in difficulty and deal with time pressure that prioritises speed over understanding. When they get something wrong, the feedback can leave them wondering what they did wrong in the first place. What is the point of an educational platform that marks students incorrectly without properly teaching them how to improve? Repeating questions without explaining the method isn't teaching; it's just prolonging the frustration. These problems are fixable. Better explanations, useful feedback and fairer difficulty progression are the bare minimum for a company supposedly dedicated to education. Students are learners, not statistics on a dashboard. Points and completed assignments mean nothing if genuine understanding is neglected. Sparx needs to stop confusing frustration with challenge and automated marking with actual teaching. It's supposed to help students learn mathematics, not make them dread it. If it cannot get that basic principle right, what is it doing claiming to be educational?
