SparxreaderReviews of sparxreader.com

The new sparx reader update as off September 2026 has entirely limited me to wider reading, as a student with stress of from many exams I often find it hard to get time to read my own books and I really enjoy reading so I have found it very disappointing, up until the resent update Sparx reader has made reading rewarding and has enabled me to read my own books whithout the fear of using up time I could have used to complete my homework, With the new update reading has been a drag and this school year I have barely managed to get the time to read a single book of my preference.

Sparx Reader is meant to get children to read but the way that they do it makes them not feel motivated enough to read. Its a constant pressure having to do something you dislike especially when you cannot even read your own book but instead have to read a book for four option all equally as bad as eachother. Its stupid the way it works and especially when just now they have taken the gold reader feature and made it into a trap which doesn't contribute to your homework but instead you read your own books which allows them to gather more data about what you read.

Mid. Don’t like the limited range in books, and the fact that you only get 4 recommendations each time you pick a new book. The questions can be frustrating at times, especially when you answer some wrong the first time round, then you try again and you get 3/4 but still aren’t able to move on. Not fun. The spellings are okay though, I wish they would give you more points for doing them though, and they keep giving me the same ones to do which is irritating. We used to use Bedrock for English, which even though the design wasn’t as good, the work wasn’t as annoying. It also let you answer grammar questions and not just literature/reading questions, and you got to write interesting paragraphs (short ones) too. IF YOU CAN I WOULD RECOMMEND ASKING YOUR TEACHER TO GIVE YOU PERMANENT GOLD READER, IT IS WAY BETTER! YOU CAN ADD YOUR OWN BOOKS WHICH YOU WILL ENJOY MORE, AND YOU GET SO MANY MORE POINTS, IT MAKES HOMEWORK SO MUCH MORE EFFICIENT. ALSO YOU GET TO MAKE THE QUESTIONS YOURSELF, SO IT ISN’T AS DIFFICULT. It is better than Maths and Science though, so I’ll give it that.

I do want to read more but it's when I'm obligated to do so when I don't want to (this is because I have ADHD) This review is about the fact that I have ADHD because it does not consider our mental way of working as we can't go back to the text when answering questions and that we are being timed on the questions. My biggest problem with this is that I have to put twice as much work into my reading as everyone else as I have to read things 5 times to fully process it (no I'm not slow in the head I just have ADHD) and it takes me longer than the average time to do it. I do like the concept of this app but it would help for mental setbacks to be considered.

Spammed a bunch of way too hard reviews just so I could get an abridged story which would make this reasonable

It is kind of pointless as there is no reason as to why to force students to read 10 paragraphs of a book they don't even like to get 10 srp out of their 300 srp task and why would you force people to read

If I click book preferences, and click action, it will give me an adventure book that i already cliked for not for me

Honestly, Sparx reader is nowhere near as bad as sparx maths, but it could definitely use improvement. The amount of reading you need to do to be able to choose your own book to read is insane - and that’s on top of the compulsory work you have to do. I just wish that they would do better. They’ve really tried to make it accessible by adding settings such as changing the colour of the page and adding a reading guide, which is great and I’m sure it’s helpful to many users, but it just isn’t enough. It lets you choose books and even gives you options to say what types of books you prefer - I did this, and got like 2 out of 5 options with those categories I picked. It’s a decent platform for teachers. Not for students.
