I had a very frustrating experience with support response times on Songtrust. My account issue remained unresolved for several months, and communication was extremely slow at different stages of the process. To be fair, the team eventually responded and provided clarification regarding compliance and publishing documentation requirements, but the overall process took much longer than expected and created a lot of uncertainty on my side. I believe the platform could improve its customer support response time and provide clearer guidance earlier in the process, especially for independent labels, managers, and first-time publishing administrators trying to understand the system properly. Hopefully they continue improving the support experience for users.

I was attempting to change my primary account email. It took a long time and a number of attempts... I give credit to Songtrust that we did eventually get there, but it really took a long time. Seems like there's a lot of room for improvement here.

Hi Phillip, thank you for this fair assessment. We're glad we got to help you in the end, and we appreciate you acknowledging that even while pointing out where we fell short. Streamlining account updates like email changes is exactly the kind of improvement we're focused on. So happy to see that your account is now secured and set up the way you need it. So far not the best experience. The songs should be automatically uploaded if you put in your information especially if you know the title and most all the info. Or if you have a YouTube channel which I do. Hopeful that I will have a better experience later on but onboarding is annoying. I am a busy person not much time to play online typing a million codes in.

We appreciate your honest feedback about our onboarding process, Jennifer. We completely understand that as a busy songwriter, your time is best spent making music, not manually entering data. While we wish we could automatically pull all song details from a YouTube channel, the reason for manual entry is to ensure the highest level of accuracy for your global registrations. Music publishing requires very specific data (such as songwriter splits and IPI numbers) that YouTube or other public platforms often don't provide in a format that global collection societies will accept. By having you enter these details, we ensure your songs are registered correctly the first time, preventing any royalties your songs may generate from getting stuck. The good news is that once you have songs registered with Songtrust, the heavy lifting of global administration is handled by us! Your registered songs are currently in the "Monitoring" status, which means that we are monitoring them for royalty activity across our network of global collection societies. We'll let you know as soon as you have publishing royalties to collect. If you have any other concerns, please reach out to our team any time at [email protected].

Signed up with Songtrust in 2022, paying a one-time $100 registration fee per songwriter (including for one co-writer on my compositions). Over three years, they collected about $80 in publishing royalties, sending quarterly reports that detailed earnings by territory and type. On the rare occasions I reached support, they gave useful advice on composition issues or splits. However, major frustrations dominated: support was extremely slow and hard to contact (responses often took weeks or months), the dashboard had technical glitches (e.g., tax form uploads failed repeatedly, and support refused manual submissions), and territories were sometimes removed from my account without explanation, causing royalties to stall. The biggest problem was payouts—despite the official $25 minimum threshold, my $80 never reached my bank account. When I requested a manual payout for the accumulated amount, they refused, citing strict internal policies with no flexibility. Compared to my direct experience with a PRO like BMI, which feels far more streamlined, reliable, and responsive for the writer's share, Songtrust's publishing administration proved technically cumbersome and unreliable. While they handle global registration and some collections, the rigid rules, poor accessibility, and risk of funds getting stuck made it a headache for a lower-earning independent composer. Don't forget there are many competitors that might work better for some songwriters, such as CD Baby Publishing, Sentric Music Publishing, or BeatStars Publishing—each with different fees, commissions, and support levels. Always carefully review the contract from Songtrust or any publishing administrator: ensure it's non-exclusive so you're not obligated to route all your past, current, and future music through one company. They sometimes bury exclusivity clauses deep in the terms, limiting your options—Songtrust's standard agreement is generally non-exclusive for admin purposes, but double-check to avoid surprises.🤝🙌🏻😎
