Autumn is my case worker and she’s absolutely saved my sanity! She found the doctors I needed, let me choose from among them and made the appointments. She knows the resources i have no clue are available. She’s thorough and she follows through. I had no idea where to start after my recent move and she’s been a lifesaver.

The Lifeline that is Solace
You are probably in a similar situation as I was, in chronic pain, physically and mentally tired of jumping through hoops, tired of being treated like your chronic pain was only important enough to just note it on your chart. For years I researched and chose doctors or clinics in my area that stated ‘they’ were the ones to ‘eliminate’ pain! Some of those medical offices helped and some suggested I couldn’t possibly be in that much pain because ’nothing could be seen on my xray’.
I could no longer work as a nurse nor care for my small children alone. I became more isolated at home, my friends couldn’t relate so relationships suffered then ended.
Many years later in my chronic pain journey, I made it onto Medicare. I had concerns about coverage for my current medical needs as well as likely future costs. Then I was informed my current Medicare Advantage plan was ending in my county and I needed to sort out what choices to make now. I was worried and no one in my family had a clue.
I saw an ad for Solace on social media somewhere. Solace seemed to be offering a lifeline to Medicare participants suffering from chronic pain. I had never found any organization that was actually reaching out to offer help. Could it be? I thought it was worth a try. I reached out and Solace reached back. I took a chance.
What began as a discussion with my Solace contact Courtney Hall RN about Medicare, doctors, medication, medical history, procedures, surgeries, treatments etc in those early calls, grew into a relationship based on mutual respect. She treated my chronic pain history with empathy and genuine concern for me. She sure had her hands full but dove into my particular needs immediately sending me the names and information of all the Medicare Advantage plans in my county and statewide. A few days later were more emails filled with charts showing comparisons of the plans, the monthly cost of each, lists of which plans covered my medications at what costs. Courtney Hall was the help I always needed throughout this lifelong pain management trek I have been on alone. I had never felt so heard, understood, believed and truly cared about before developing my relationship with Courtney. Together we sorted through even a new diagnosis of cancer I received, on top of my pain issues. We spoke on the phone about twice a month and then more frequently when my cancer surgery approached. Courtney helped me by emailing a list of items I should consider having at the ready at home, to ease my pain, to safely shower, care for my incision etc. Her contributions to my situation were both practical and personal. We talked about transportation, who could run errands or get groceries if I needed that help after surgery. With her help I was able coordinate my own needs, my family both nearby and 150 miles away where surgery happened then get back home as pain free as possible.
I don’t feel my Solace match or partner in health, Courtney Hall RN, is the only person who is available on the Solace website that is personable, likable and so very knowledgeable. The service Solace provides is provided by real nurses that care about each individual who reaches out to them. My life has been so enriched since my first phone call to Solace. I am so appreciative that Solace provides the kind of help I always needed

Does pain have you stuck between policy and practioner...and lost?
If you find yourself struggling with new changes to healthcare policies and/or laws, or if you've recently experienced a change to your care providers, Solace can help. When my PCP retired, I was caught in-between a mess of new providers and policy changes. I take opioid pain medication. Because of new policies, I was forced to seek care from three additional providers that don't share the same clinic. This, after 24+ years of care at the same clinic, with all of my specialties in the same system, I was told, "nobody here will see you anymore," not even for primary care. Because of a chronic pain condition, I was a risk for the other providers in the practice - even if they weren't prescribing it. I became the hot potato that nobody wanted.
This meant my standing labs, my medication refills, and my communication with a trusted provider was gone. It was on me to find replacements. Starting over is never easy.
I was scrolling through doctors in my area, and an ad kept showing up, asking if I suffered from chronic pain and how Solace could help. I clicked the ad, and filled out the online form. That same week, I had a 1:1 phone call with a doctor. He listened to my concerns and found me one of the best nurse/advocates on the planet! She did all of the behind the scenes work for me. She coordinated and communicated with my new providers, and took the stress down to "manageable". She did all but go to appointment in my place. She will also check in when things are quiet and I let her know whenever there is a change. We schedule a call to discuss the change, and she makes sure it's documented and whether it's helping. The other great thing about Solace advocacy, is that they only advocate for you. When something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. We are told to, "Speak Up!" but that's easier said than done. With a Solace advocate, they can be your voice when you need to speak up, but can't. For me, it eases the fear of what a direct confrontation may do to a new MD/patient relationship.
If you're feeling like you're stuck in between practitioner and policy changes, or there's nobody helping you find you a bridge to care, try Solace. (No, I don't work for them. 😉 I just found them at a very dark point, and they brought the light)
