My cats really won’t eat the food
My cats really won’t eat the food. It’s been 3 months and there are still untouched packets in the freezer. This is really frustrating.

Big Pet Food prioritizes profits over cat health and they pack cat food with preservatives and fillers. Smalls believes cats deserve better and uses natural ingredients and added vitamins and minerals in our food. Our recipes are cooked with minimal processing. After cooking, our recipes are then frozen to maximize freshness and shipped off to happy cats across the country.

I’ve seen ads for Smalls for a while so I decided to finally give it a try for my two 6-month old cats. When I got on the website I was prompted to sign up & do a discounted trial box- so I signed up & placed an order. After paying $40+ for 10 packs of canned food, I was sent an email saying I would be charged $170 each week for my “subscription” (which I didn’t even know I signed up for, I thought I just ordered a tester box). My cats liked the food fine, but $680 a month to feed 2 cats is absurd and the way Smalls hid their pricing until after they had already essentially tricked me into a subscription was disheartening. Also- after I was made aware I subscribed for $170 a week, I went to cancel my subscription and was told they won’t send out my trial box if I canceled! So I had to wait on my trial box to be delivered before I could cancel so that I didn’t lose that money as well. Overall, fine food but shady pricing and customer service.

Thank you for your feedback! We wanted to clarify that we recently removed canola oil and now use just a very small amount of sunflower oil in some recipes—a drop per serving—to provide essential omega-6 fatty acids, which are important for cats’ skin, coat, and joint health. We understand preferences vary, and we appreciate your insights as we continue improving both our food and website experience.

My cat did not like the freeze dried cat food as much as I thought he would. He ended up going back to his dry cat food. The freeze dried cat food was too flaky and dry. I did try to add water to make it more moist.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your cat didn’t enjoy the freeze-dried recipe. Some cats prefer a softer texture, and adding water, as you did, can help, though we understand it’s not always enough. We appreciate your insights and will share them with our team as we continue refining our products.

My cats would not eat any of the food . I did not find it convenient to defrost the food . I can hardly defrost my own food.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear that your cats didn’t enjoy the food and that the defrosting process felt inconvenient. Many cats take time to transition to fresh food, and sometimes warming the food slightly or offering smaller portions can help. We appreciate your feedback and will share it with our team as we continue looking for ways to make mealtime easier for both cats and their humans.

I initially wanted to try a "fresher" cat food that may help minimize hair balls etc. which hopefully all 3 of my cats would like. I ordered the sampler pack based on the quiz and completely missed the fine print (vaguely) stating that the 10 samples I was trying would turn into a 43 item order and auto charge/ship with no time to cancel once the notification came through. I have not found one kind that my cats like.. the only one they seemed interested in was the "smooth fish" but none of them had more than a few bites. One of my cats got very sick for about 4 hours vomiting after trying the smooth fish. Now I have a freezer of 45 food packs that I cannot feed my cats.

After almost two years of my cats enjoying this cat food and of me enjoying the quality of the food and the convenience of having it delivered, I’m done. For the past several months, the orders have been delivered late and in questionable condition. The boxes have been damaged and the food has partially thawed. The first couple of times, I thought it was a temporary glitch so I didn’t contact the company. However, the last few times (including the current order which has not been delivered yet), I have communicated with the company and was assured that this problem was being investigated. Late deliveries are a problem because of what it takes to transition your cats to different food. One of my cats has intestinal issues if the transition is too fast. I just cancelled my subscription, and it’s a shame.
