This company deceptively signs you up for autoship when you just want to try it first.
This company deceptively signs you up for autoship from your first order, without your awareness. When you place your 1st order, you want to try the product BEFORE you order more on autoship. They text you and send another shipment at the shocking full price. And you are stuck with food and cost you did not want. Their ordering communication and procedures are misleading and deceptive. I did not see it was autoship or a way to opt out of autoship in the first order.

Doubts about Smalls
I have many doubts about Smalls cat food company. I feel as though they are not being honest and up front. When you go to their homepage, it says to login or take a quiz. There is no option to set up an account so, how do you login without an account? Instead, it gives you an option to login or take a quiz. When you put in your email, it says “get a link to login.” Click that and it gives you a “Magic Link” (whatever that is). Click on Magic Link and nothing happens. Doesn’t make any sense. Below that, it lists a text number in very small print (which I haven’t tried yet) and their email address. I did send an email and got no response. In order to get anywhere from there, you have to take the quiz which are just questions about your cat(s). After answering all the questions, they want you to buy a sampler package. That’s it. There’s no option to order individual items. So, I bought their sampler package for my ailing 14-year-old female and now I would like to buy some individual items that she will eat, but there isn’t an option to do that. She will not eat all of the varieties they sent me and only likes the ground bird and bird treats. My male cat won’t touch it at all. I’m beginning to think there is a scam going on here. I would love to just set up an account and go to the homepage when I want to reorder INDIVIDUAL items. I do not want automatic shipments. Any, anyway, it’s not clear where to go to cancel autoship even if I did that. Apparently, they do sell it in stores so I will probably go that route. However, my only question is how long has it been sitting in the store? I assume it is frozen so that may not be an issue.

Not a good experience
My cat tried the samples and he didn't like it. It was like wet sand, very powdery. My cat is not picky to the food but he would eat only small amount of it. I didn't want to have more food from Smalls but I got an email 2 weeks later saying my next shipment was shipped out. I noticed a $109 charge on my credit card from Smalls. I realized that they put me into subscription without notifying me. I sent some to my coworker and see if his cats would like it.

I am so sorry for the frustration this has caused, both regarding the texture of the food and the unexpected charge. This is certainly not the experience we want for you or your cat.
It sounds like you may have received our Ground or Smooth recipes. Because we use real meat without the gums and thickeners found in many commercial brands, the texture can be quite different—sometimes more dense —than traditional wet food.
I also want to apologize for the surprise of the second shipment. Smalls is a subscription service, and the Sampler is designed to transition into a full subscription after two weeks. We aim to communicate this throughout the checkout process and via email, but I understand how upsetting it is when you weren't expecting it.
However, we do offer a 100% Money-Back Guarantee on the initial Sampler pack if your cat won't eat it. Feel free to reach out 😸

Good luck
It was funny watching my cats try to cover it up but sad at the same time knowing how much it costs. The packaging is difficult to open and makes it hard for rationing. Customer service helped in ideas of how to make it more appealing to my cats but it was a no go. The concept is wonderful, and I hope other folks have better luck.

I am so sorry to hear that it didn't work out! It’s always a bit of a heartbreak when you invest in high-quality nutrition, and your cats treat it like something that belongs in the litter box.
Your feedback on the packaging is very fair. Because our food is fresh and vacuum-sealed to stay that way without preservatives, the plastic can be a bit of a challenge to navigate, especially when you're trying to portion out specific amounts for multiple cats. We are always looking for ways to improve the user experience, so I will make sure our team hears your thoughts.
It sounds like you really gave it your best shot, and I’m glad our team was able to offer some tips, even if your cats remained unimpressed. At the end of the day, every cat has their own very specific preferences, and we appreciate you being willing to try a healthier concept for them 😸

Good food, questionable business practice.
I like the quality of food, more so than my cat, but she eats it. What I’m not comfortable with is the lockstep inflexible shipping billing and charging. It feels like the want me to order more than I want weeks in advance - I’m very organized and can order as I need it, instead I get treated like a kindergarten student.

We appreciate your honesty here. It is great to hear that your cat is eating the food and you're happy with the quality, but I hear you loud and clear on the frustration with the subscription model.
It can feel restrictive to have a system "decide" your schedule for you. Our subscription is intended to make things "set it and forget it" for convenience, but we never want it to feel like we’re taking away your control or treating you like you can't manage your own pantry.
We do have a cutoff (8 PM EST on the Thursday before charging) because our food is packed with dry ice and scheduled for specific courier routes. However, if that window feels too rigid, we can help you find a delivery frequency that gives you a much larger buffer.
You can skip, edit, or change quantities at any time before that Thursday deadline. We want you to feel like a partner, not a passenger. We hope this helps!

My cats do not like this brand
My cats do not like this brand. I have too much food that will not be eaten and the cost is too high.

My cat wouldn’t eat it at all
My cat wouldn’t eat it at all. I was hopeful after reading all reviews but he just walked away from all the ways I tried. I gave up and tried to cancel my subscription but was told my next shipment was already being processed. I received that shipment and paid for it. I donated the whole shipment to our local humane society.

Not like the commercial
Our cat just did not like this. Tried transitioning to those over the course of a couple of months. Our packages, especially the “pulled” versions had a freezer burned texture. Also the food on the commercial loos very appetizing but the reality is quite different. Usually a dull grey color. Pate style. Not juicy AT ALL. Our cat eats only a small amount of wet food. Was terrible but pretty expensive to throw away at least 50% daily.
