Big Pet Food prioritizes profits over cat health and they pack cat food with preservatives and fillers. Smalls believes cats deserve better and uses natural ingredients and added vitamins and minerals in our food. Our recipes are cooked with minimal processing. After cooking, our recipes are then frozen to maximize freshness and shipped off to happy cats across the country.

My cats wouldn’t even smell the food. I feel like I wast3d my money. I should have known better since they don’t like people food.

I signed up for a free trial, but it automatically signed me up for auto ship. I tried to get my cats to eat the soft food, but they won't. Next thing I knew, a huge shipment showed up. I have tons of it in my freezer and keep trying to find ways to get my cats to eat it, but no luck. I'm feeding it to the dogs now. I appreciate the mission-healthier food for cats!

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we completely understand the frustration with the subscription—our Sampler box does enroll you in auto-ship by default. We’re glad you’re finding a way to use the food with your dogs, and we appreciate your support of our mission to provide healthier meals for cats. If you ever want to try transitioning your cats again or need guidance on making the food more appealing, we’re happy to provide tips.

The product is well packed for shipping and always arrives frozen solid during these cool/cold months. Hopefully that trend will hold true in warm/hot weather. I like the ease of storing, thawing and serving the individual packets of food. I don't like the package size. My 2 cats eat about 20% of a package each day. One cat eats only Smalls while the other(much larger cat) eats half Smalls and half canned tuna. The problem comes when there is 20% left after 2 days and neither cat will eat it once its been thawed for 3 days. After each serving the rest is stored in the fridge in a sealed plastic container or sealed sandwich bag. Hence 20% of each package is discarded, which is costly and wasteful. The cats like bird, the least, and other bird the next least. I'm still adjusting the mix each month to help with their being so picky. If you have any secrets to dealing with the picky nature of these cats, it will be greatly appreciated. Overall, the cats appear to have more energy. They are more attentive and playful. Additionally, considering they are both short hair, known for not shedding much, and that its currently winter, they are barely shedding when combed.

My cat seemed to love the food, but as a senior on a fixed income I simply cannot afford the cost.

While the food itself is good, my cat quickly grew bored with it due to the lack of variety. It's also expensive, which makes it cost-prohibitive.

CATS LOST INTEREST IN THE FOOD. You need to have an option of getting just 7 packets instead of 14. Even with 2 cats it took more than 3 weeks to use it all.

I didn’t dislike anything - it’s just my picky cat who would only eat half of it - what to do???

Thank you for the review! We understand the "picky eater" struggle—cats are notoriously suspicious of change, even when it’s healthy. Cats get used to what they’re eating, especially if it’s high in carbs and fillers, and can grow to prefer it. Kind of like us craving fast food over a home-cooked meal. We recommend mixing in their old food with Smalls, serving it warm to bring out all the meaty aromas, and adding toppers or enticers to pique their curiosity. It might take a little time, but the long-term health benefits are well worth it. We break it all down in this blog post, and of course, we’re always here if you want more tips: https://www.smalls.com/blog/post/is-my-cat-a-picky-eater
