Big Pet Food prioritizes profits over cat health and they pack cat food with preservatives and fillers. Smalls believes cats deserve better and uses natural ingredients and added vitamins and minerals in our food. Our recipes are cooked with minimal processing. After cooking, our recipes are then frozen to maximize freshness and shipped off to happy cats across the country.

The past two shipments were thawed and spoiled when they arrived. Several packets were bloated and discolored. My cats love your food but the shipping method isn’t working for us. I can’t trust to give these to my cats if they are potentially spoiled.

I am writing this on Trust Pilot. I found bone shard in the cat pulled chicken. I foolishly threw away the evidence, but I have a lot number41817-81050. The shard -- there was actually two one big and one small. I thought at first it was something frozen which didn't make sense and then I pulled it and felt sick as we had already fed some of the product to the cat and i hoped there wasn't anything in it. (So far the cat seems fine.) This big shard was around 1/2 and inch long and fairly thick. It was like it had been chopped but had sharp edges. This definiately would have been a danger to a cat as both a choking hazzard and internal damage. I don't want anything from the company. I had already ended my subscription. I want a public record of this because the company needs to know and if anything happens to a cat because of this, I want the record on the internet.

My cats refuse to eat the food.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re so sorry to hear your cats didn’t enjoy the food — we know how frustrating it can be when our picky eaters turn their noses up. Every cat has unique preferences, and sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to find the right recipe or texture. If you’d like, our team can help you explore other options or share tips that might make mealtime more successful. Please don’t hesitate to reach out — we’d love the chance to make this right for you and your cats.

You couldn’t get the product to me twice without it being thawed out before it got here.

We’re so sorry to hear this! That’s definitely not the experience we want for you. As long as the packets are still cold to the touch upon arrival, they’re perfectly safe to refreeze and serve. Your box is packed with just enough coolant to keep food frozen through delivery, so it’s normal for dry ice or gel packs to thaw during transit. That said, any packets that arrive at room temperature or warm shouldn’t be refrozen or fed to your cat. If you haven’t already, please reach out to our team via email ([email protected]) or text (503-487-4303) so we can make this right with a replacement or refund. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

My cats( two purebred Himalayans showed no interest in the food. I began emailing to cancel. I would get an acknowledgment of my request followed by next delivery date. I made several requests but the second delivery still arrived. After multiple attempts I finally was given a phone number and the name of a person. I did get credited for the second shipment and the local shelter received a donation. I would say your customer service leaves much to be desired with the exception of the one woman who actually reached out to me. I spent over thirty years as a sales manager and always reminded my sales staff that a satisfied customer may tell a few friends, a dissatisfied one will tell the world. John P Holian

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback with us. I’m very sorry for the frustration and confusion you encountered surrounding your subscription and our deadline cut-offs. We understand how disappointing it must have been to continue receiving shipments after requesting cancellation, especially when your cats weren’t enjoying the food. We’re continuously working to make our cancellation process and cut-off deadlines clearer in the Account Portal, as well as any Heads Up emails, to avoid misunderstandings like this in the future. We truly appreciate your feedback—it helps us improve both our service and customer experience. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and for giving Smalls a try.

Overpriced for what is provided
Response from SmallsOct 14, 2025
Thank you for your feedback. We understand that our pricing may feel high compared to traditional cat food. Smalls focuses on using fresh, human-grade ingredients, portioned meals, and high-quality nutrition designed to support long-term feline health, which does come at a premium. The good news is that subscriptions can always be adjusted with budget in mind! You can switch to our smallest box, space out shipments up to every 12 weeks, or postpone whenever needed. Smalls also works great as a topper. Again, we appreciate you sharing your thoughts and hope you and your cat find the best option for your needs.
