Big Pet Food prioritizes profits over cat health and they pack cat food with preservatives and fillers. Smalls believes cats deserve better and uses natural ingredients and added vitamins and minerals in our food. Our recipes are cooked with minimal processing. After cooking, our recipes are then frozen to maximize freshness and shipped off to happy cats across the country.

The cats like some of the food, others they just walk away from. The 2 star is for their website and customer service. Their site is misleading, when you order a sample order they automatically sign you up for the next order of 42 packets without even a pre-email so you could pick the food types. They have no phone to call to speak to anyone so everything is text or email. They have this magic-link which may work or may not work to get into your account. The auto refill of $133 and 42 packets of food do not fit in my freezer.

Smalls isn't what it used to be
I originally wrote a review many months ago, when my cats were enthusiastic about the food and the service was prompt and courteous.
That Smalls is no longer the case. Along with the packaging change that happened over the last month or so, the recipes undoubtedly changed, too. I feel that the company is gaslighting me when they insist, breathlessly, that the recipes haven't changed, but my cats will no longer touch the stuff. The "pulled" food is no longer in thick, discernible shreds, but is essentially a mince or a ground texture. And the smell went from smelling like a human-made meal, made for humans, to smelling like every other commercial cat food on the market.
This food is ungodly expensive -- and I was willing to shell out that money when I felt confident I was giving my cats high-quality, species-appropriate food. I am no longer convinced that's the case. Somewhere along the way, the customer service dropped off too; whereas I used to get a response to a text or an email within a couple of days (since they have no phone number you can actually call), I am now left waiting, worryingly, for sometimes a week or more.
This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't get the wrong food with my order (we got Ground Cow when we certainly did not order that, for example), or if our cats weren't essentially without food (as I've mentioned, they will no longer eat more than a couple of bites before declaring it unpalatable and walking away).
My household has started looking into Cat Person or Darwin's (Darwin's has a pretty sordid history with the FDA, and some suspect handling concerns)... anything, really, other than Smalls.
It's such a shame that a trailblazer in the industry has fallen off a cliff so dramatically -- and left many households with a residually poor taste in their mouths and a freezer full of food that looks, feels, and smells vile, to our human sensibilities as well as our cats'.

Buyer beware
Buyer beware. Some of the food they sell is decent. The problem is they Do Not Send you what you order. Numerous times they sent me proteins that I didn’t order and could not serve my cat. All in all “Smalls” is either disorganized or a scam. Buyer beware.

Overpriced with very poor customer service.
We have had a mixed experience with Smalls. The quality of the food seems good, which is why we continue to purchase smalls. It has improved our cats digestive health and their fur.
A few critiques would be the consistent changing of the recipes of the wet food. With almost every order we receive it seems to change and our cats have to readjust to new food, which seems contrary to what they discuss on their website about transitioning your cat to new food.
Another dislike is that the company is not very responsive when I reach out. You cannot call the company, you can only contact them via email or text message and then it does not feel like the person responding is an actual person. They take sometimes days to respond and a handful of times have just not responded at all. Recently they just discontinued their kibble from one day to the next and when I contacted them to complain, because I wasn't even able to stock up on it, they said they would send me some and they never did.
Overall I would not recommend this company.

Good Food, Bad Service
My cat does seem to enjoy the food and she definitely seems healthier since I started using this service. The low score is because the site is NOT user friendly at all, you can't pick out what you want. And the customer service is not helpful either. I constantly have to skip shipments to prevent being overstocked and switching plans is almost impossible. And sometimes they send the order even when I requested a skip.

Do not waste your time with Smalls there are better options
When we first started Smalls about a year ago they seemed like a good company. My cat loved the food and it seemed to give her energy. Within the past several months Smalls has been a disappointment. Rolls of food would be dry and inedible. There was a 3" screw in one of the food rolls. The last shipment we received my cat didn't want to eat it and she loves to eat so that was alarming. When she would finally make herself eat it, she nibbled at it because she was hungry and then lie down all day with her eyes half open as if she was sick. I quickly stopped feeding her Smalls and gave her something else to eat and she was back to her normal self within a day. I filed a complaint with Small, which you can only contact them via text message or email. You cannot verbally speak to someone, which means you get someone different with every message, even if it's to reply to their response to your message. It takes them exactly 24 hours to respond to you. I would message them and 24 hours later they respond. I reply within 10 minutes and have to wait another 24 hours for another response from another representative. Customer service appears friendly with their cat emojis but they are incompetent. I finally told them to refund my last order and to cancel my account. I informed them to apply the refund to the card I had on file, asked them to confirm to which card they applied the refund and they assured me to the card I had on file. Well...I received a notice from the bank today they DID NOT do what they said and now I have to go back and forth with the bank to receive my funds from a CLOSED CARD! Thank you so much Smalls for the continued inconvenience. If you're thinking about starting Smalls take this review into consideration. Save yourself the headache and frustration, plus your kitty's health, and find something better. Petco now has better wet cat food options plus they have the freeze-dried treats and chicken broth that's similar to Smalls. You can also set-up auto delivery with Petco so it's more convenient. Maybe Smalls can't keep up with the demand or maybe they're short staffed now, I don't know but whatever it is they definitely need to get it together.

Product not useful here.
I know Smalls is dedicated to making sure cats are happy with their product. However, my cat doesn't like it and I definitely throw away much more than she eats. I would like to hereby withdraw any future purchases as this is just throwing lots of money in the trash. I have given it sufficient time for her to get used to the food and it is just not working. Thank you kindly, Geri Kupetz

Missing items refunded would rather have had them sent after the fact.
I recently had a delivery where some items weren’t included in the box. While Smalls immediately refunded me for the items (which was great) I’d rather the items have been sent after the fact. I really wish there was an option to receive the missed items. I have to go out and purchase supplemental kibble for my cat which defeats the purpose of having the delivery service to begin with.
UPDATE - My cat (a non picky cat) refused to eat any of the flavors in this last batch. I tried leaving it but he starved himself over giving in. Cancelled my subscription. This latest batch was bad perhaps? Pretty disappointed. I like the idea of RAW food. The execution leaves something to be desired.
