My kitties LOVE this food! I have five cats. I originally decided to try this food because two of my kitties, would not eat wet food. I got the discounted first sample set and it was a hit. The two picky eaters gobbled up the food. The other three kitties took some time but two of them with the help of those free treats I get each time (I started putting them in the food) they are now big fans. I still have one Kitty to recruit. Frankie just recently started licking the food and it looks like she's starting to come around. The only downfall is I started out with feeding two packages a day and now I'm up to almost four packages a day, which is very expensive. I wish there was some way the pricing could be slightly lower or maybe offer incentives like... after your 5th subscription your six one is free. That would be extremely helpful for dedicated and recurring customers each month.

We have overall really, really loved Smalls. The quality is outstanding and we have seen several health benefits for our girls - most noticeably their coats, and the smell of the litter box is much much less! Deliveries have always been good, never any issues there. The two improvements I would like to see: -Recipes seem to change a lot, it's noticeable in color, texture, and consistency. This can be really hard for cats and I'd like to see less of that. -It is incredibly difficult to tweak the size of the plan. Smalls bases the subscription on number of cats and calories, which requires a lot of number crunching and estimating. It would be helpful to start this way and then be able to add or subtract packets based on how much the cats are actually eating as opposed to trying to do it through calculating calorie reduction.

I’ve been feeding my cats Smalls for about 6 months. I like the food because it’s been highly recommend by independent researchers; but I’m not sure about some of the ingredients, such as “canola” oil; and green beans as a filler seems a little odd for cat food. My cats aren’t really crazy about it… they are female litter mates, about 2 years old, and I’ve always fed them highly rated cat food. One is a hungry kitty who will usually eat whatever I feed her. The other is a little on the picky side, and will often leave her bowl unfinished. The chicken (“Bird”) flavor seems appealing, and they both eat it; but I think “picky kitty” is sensitive to chicken based cat foods… her chin breaks out when I feed her anything with chicken as the main ingredient… from my informal research, this seems to be a common allergic condition for some cats. I’ve tried “Other Bird” (turkey)… no skin problems for picky kitty, but neither cat seems to particularly enjoy it… occasionally they’ve both left it unfinished. They both seem to like the fish-based products better. One thing that I don’t like is the packaging… getting it open and dishing it out is messy, due to the flimsy shrink-wrapped plastic bag. I can never get it all out, and I hate to waste anything, so I let the dog lick it clean. I would like to see this changed to a semi-rigid plastic shell, with a smooth, rounded shape to make it easier to spoon out the product. Also, a single serving size would be so much more convenient… currently, I divide the package between my two kitties to avoid having to store leftovers. If I only had one cat, this would really be a problem… who wants to have half a package of smelly cat food in the fridge?

I like Smalls for the ingredients they use and the overall nutrition profile. Even the price, when broken down by CALORIE, is actually attractive. Go shop for a high-quality canned commercial food, or even try making your own. Smalls is about the same per cal. E.g. Weruva paw lickin' chicken - 10oz can is 192kcal. A pack of smalls is 200. The Weruva is $3.75/can (the small cans work out to be even more). Smalls is around $4/pack. What I don't like and what I'm dinging a star for is that my cats don't actually LOVE the food. They sort of tolerate it. I think it mostly comes down to texture. The food is very dry and dense - likely to save weight on shipping to be honest. I don't think there is enough moisture in the food and adding water only kind of works. There is also very little difference in texture between their 'ground' and 'smooth' options. My cats do seem to like the new pulled bird, which is a blend of pureed food with some whole chicken pieces mixed in. I'm not at all happy about the extra cost however. Overall, I think it is some of the best food on the market if your cat likes it, but I don't think it is any kind of miracle food. So many of the bad reviews here are from people who can't do math or don't know how to read email. Figure out how many packets of food your cat(s) need a day, multiply it by 7, and then figure out how many weeks apart you want your order. When Smalls emails you that a new shipment is being prepared, adjust your order accordingly. You have a WEEK to do this. If you're getting stuck with too much food, this is a you problem. If your order arrives thawed, Smalls will fix it. I've talked to their customer service a couple of times and they've always been responsive and helpful. And yes, it is via text, as it is 2024. Not every small company is going to have a call center.

The BEST food for cats. BUT PLEASE remove the nutritional yeast. Bad for cats with IBD.

My picky cats LOVED the Smalls food and the Shameless cat treats. I will be purchasing in the future. I was shocked and surprised that a $$$ subscription was generated with my sample order. Even though we love it, we are not ready for that level of commitment.

I love the Smalls food, and all of my cats love the Smalls food- BUT - I do not like they limit your order to 10 cats or less. We do rescue work and every animal that comes our way gets the best of food- but under this current model I have to create another site and subscription for my (over 10 cats)- it is a pain. I also want them to have an actual person I can speak with for questions and not rely on text messaging only :( - that may become a showstopper for me for my 12 if I find another food of the same quality that has better customer service offerings. Other than these "issues" - if you have under 10 and never have questions/concerns where a live person is best- etc.- this food is pretty darn amazing, and the selection of recipes is wonderful.

My cat loves this food, she's been enjoying it for three months now and doesn't tire of it. No more stinky butt. Doesn't eat and then cry for more. Great variety to choose from. Only wish we had a hard food for those long weekends away.
