Hi Greg - Thank you for your review!
Billy H.
I bought the expedited kit during a sale and was quite happy when the lab actually had finished sequencing after 7 weeks (advertised was 6-8 weeks). So much for the good. But I'm mostly interested in the raw data and the support promissed links to the FASTQ and BAM files twice over the last 3 weeks but did not provide anything so far. I'll update this review if they provide the links soon. Otherwise I guess I'll have to go for a chargeback on my credit card ... Edit: The day after I wrote this review I received the download links and could access my raw data. A nice surprise was that the coverage appears to be 50x instead of 30x. I think this is now worth five stars (from three). Thanks!

Hi Billy - Thank you for your review and the updated information.

Updated: Got my reports today and they are pretty cool - LOTS of information - one in particular that is potentially life-saving (high risk of adverse reaction to Nitrous Oxide). Lots of additional add-ons (some free - some for additional charges) - comes with sample reports to see if it is worth it for you). I bought the hormonal and fertility one which I honestly thought would have been included in the Health Scan, but wasn't - and was the original reason I purchased the kit in the first place so not thrilled to pay an additional $100+on top of everything else but happy to get the information. It also did say my genome was 100% sequenced but then a report came back saying 9 results weren't able to be reported due to lack of data. Not thrilled about that as it was for Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Colorectal Cancer, and Long QT Syndrome among others. Entire Process This process was painfully long. Would have been 16 weeks since my kit arrived in the labs tomorrow. Online it says 10-12 and sometimes up to 16 when the lab is busy. I spoke to customer service throughout and they were fairly quick to respond saying they would get an update and polite. Overall, I am excited to dig into the data to understand what it all means and provide it to my doctors. I would recommend this product but be prepared to wait.

Hi KH - Thank you for your review and feedback. I greatly appreciate your patience and apologize that your kit took so long to complete. Your kit was processed by previous laboratory service, which had longer processing times. All of the kits offered since the beginning of 2024 are processed using our new laboratory service, which has a significantly faster turnaround time. Please contact our Customer Success team if we can provide further assistance.

Predatory billing. They signed me up for a subscription, and I had them cancel it. They apologized and refunded me. Then I find out that they signed me up for a different subscription. When I emailed them, they told me to go in and cancel the subscription with detailed steps. However there is no option to cancel. The only option is to upgrade to an even more expensive plan. So I called to try to speak to a human about how ridiculous this all is, but there is no one there to answer the phone. So I need to call my bank and talk to them about halting payment to these grifters. Unprofessional, and will steal your money

Hi J.O. - Thank you for the review!!

1.Despite numerous requests for a URL link to upload my WGS to another company, they have failed to provide. And when do provide a file, it takes weeks and it STILL isn’t the format I need. They clearly know that. 2. One report is still malfunctioning after several months and has not been corrected. 3. Purchased a report and clicked the button to purchase the report for 50% off with upgrading to a Premium account. The report is running, and clearly a discount was applied because the total spent is less than the cost of the report but NO PREMIUM ACCESS. Such a disappointment in this company. Response to company’s response: nope! Upgrade was not instant. Took days and multiple requests. And files requested the second time went unanswered for several weeks. You pay a lot of money upfront to this company for WGS. Then to get more readily accessible information to your data, need to keep paying money. If you want your data to up load to another company, you first have to download the huge files (not a lot of folks have that kind of storage) and then re upload. They won’t provide a link to send to another company so the company can just get the data themselves. They claim security, but let’s be honest folks, it’s about forcing the customer to spend even more money with them. All of this should be disclosed upfront. Final response with a company I will not purchase from for the rest of my family: these files are LARGE. It’s arduous and even impossible unless you have external HDs and the time it takes is again… LONG. THEY CLAIM SECURITY AND DATA PROTECTION, BUT THEY ARE NOT BEING HONEST. ITS ABOUT FORCING THE CUSTOMER TO SPEND EVEN MORE MONEY DIRECTLY IN HOUSE WITH THEM.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced. 1. File Formats and Delivery: Our file formats (paired FASTQ, BAM, VCF, SV VCF, CNV VCF, and snp-indel.genome.vcf) adhere to standard industry practices. The security protocols and substantial size of these files necessitate a careful preparation process to ensure the integrity and security of your genetic data. This can extend the link generation time to up to 10-14 days. However, our records show that the links were provided within 9 business days. Regarding your concerns about data accessibility, on April 16, a request was made asking for links to upload to a third party. On April 17, you were provided steps for downloading the VCF file from your account and were informed that we do not provide open hosting links that can be input directly to Promethease. Our protocol is designed to maintain the highest security standards, which includes not providing direct links for third-party access. This policy is in place to protect your sensitive information. 2. Report Malfunction: We regret that one of your reports has been malfunctioning for several months. Once our team was made aware of the issue with access to the report a link and guidance was immediately sent to resolve the issue. 3. Premium Access and Discounts: We apologize for the delay in upgrading your account to Premium. On May 8 the support request was received and on May 9 the Premium Genome plan was applied to your account within 24 hours of our support team being made aware of the issue. The discount applied correctly, reflecting in the total spent, but we understand the frustration caused by the delay. We do not charge for data storage or the generation of download links. We understand that downloading and managing large files can be challenging. While we do not facilitate direct uploads to third parties, you have full control over your data once downloaded. This process is in place to comply with data security standards and protect your privacy.

I chose this platform over others like Dante or Nebula due to competitive pricing, strong security credentials, positive community support on Reddit, and DNA processing in the USA or Europe (though my sample was sent to the US). It took 11 weeks to receive my results, a week earlier than expected. I opted for the 'New Year’s Flash Sale Premium Bundle' for $379, claiming a saving of $2,183, which I couldn't fully reconcile based on the included reports and app costs totalling $272.95 plus the $750 DNA sequencing fee ($1,022.95 total). Despite this, it's a fair price for the service provided, though transparency on the savings calculation would enhance trust. The results are for research purposes only, not medical or diagnostic use. Sequencing provides an informative timeline view during the sequencing process, though multiple sub-stages appearing on the next 'milestone' can feel misleading. They estimate durations for each stage though which offers reassurance. After the raw data was generated I had to email support to add the reports to my genome, with one still missing (the DNA Selfie). Genome files are downloadable from the dashboard (the TXT file is 16Mb, VCF ~360Mb), but FASTQ and BAM files need an email to the support team. While theoretically these files are usable with other services, additional fees are often necessary for full reporting access. Many formerly free report services now operate on a paid or freemium model. Sequencing offers a unique 'App Store' feature where third-party companies can analyse your genome with your consent and provide reports in varied formats, such as online dashboards or downloadable PDFs. However, the quality and structure of these reports vary widely depending on the provider, ranging from free to over $100. Therefore it's important to budget for additional reports post-genome sequencing. The incentive for these companies to create reports varies, and often these apps have competing products (e.g. SelfDecode). Some apps lack sample reports for comparison, making it challenging to assess quality before purchase. There can be content overlap and contradictory information among the reports. For instance, a $140 report from App MD was well-referenced and high-quality, while a $189 report from Complete Genome Science appeared amateur with conflicting conclusions. Being able to see user reviews on individual reports would be a welcome feature. Sequencing's Next-Gen Disease Screen (NGDS) is a key product, providing a comprehensive list of diseases categorised into six types: genetic risk, possible genetic risk, possible genetic carrier, medication related, no genetic risk and unknown genetic risk. It offers toggles for 'High confidence' or 'All results', where 'High confidence' indicates well-supported findings by peer-reviewed studies. The significant difference in result numbers between these toggles (3.7k vs 23.7k) reflects the early stage of genetic research. While high confidence results are mainly for well-researched diseases like cancer and diabetes, users may feel compelled to review all results due to the extensive list. Unfortunately, the lack of exporting options with NGDS limits its shareability with healthcare professionals, which is a drawback for meaningful discussions. Compounding this, when you stop paying $39 monthly your access to NGDS is limited. Sequencing's Health Screen app complements NGDS by providing monthly updates on new findings related to users' genetic profiles and disease risks, enhancing ongoing awareness. Ancestry reporting is still pending with Sequencing, but third-party ancestry reports are available for purchase in the marketplace. For example, the $10.99 report from Eone-Diagnomics Genome Center was informative but lacked haplogroup information. Sequencing's platform occasionally experiences login issues like looping login attempts, which can be frustrating. Despite this, the UI is modern and well-designed. The platform's advertising can be aggressive, with persistent full-page popups even after purchasing a kit. Users also cannot remove their default payment method independently, requiring support contact for changes. However, Sequencing’s customer support was fantastic at responding to my emails promptly and effectively. My thanks to Ken, Logan and Ryan for patiently dealing with my emails. While Sequencing's kits are recommended, the quality of their reports and marketplace can be inconsistent and marred by flaws. If I were doing this again I’d get whole genome sequencing and pair it with a service that includes results in a consistent, high quality manner.

To begin, they received my sample 15 Aug 23 (I followed all directions and had it done by my sister who is a 30 yr RN just to be sure it was done right) and didn’t get results until 2 Feb 24. I was given the premium genome explorer plus access to compensate for the extreme delay and that was interesting. I didn’t realize it would only be for a month. The reason I did this test was to check for breast cancer risk due to many family members having it. Of BRCA1, 25 lines, 13 had no data. BRCA2, of 86 lines, 23 had no data. In truth I could have gotten as much information from the free apps online and my old ancestry DNA raw file. Of the 30K genome sequences advertised, I only obtained 21.2K. I highly suspect degradation of the sample due to the length of time waiting for processing, to be the primary factor. Overall, I do not believe that the service provided was sufficient.
