So I want to give almost a 3/4 stars
So I want to give almost a 3/4 stars. But also 5. Reason being we ordered a knife and cuts like butter. But the handle was loose. They were so fast to respond and send us a new knife. Customer service was amazing! But my husband ordered another knife and the handle is very loose on this one. I’m not sure what is with this continued issue. But I hope it’s resolved because we do really like the knife itself and would like to order more but not if this is an ongoing issue
Response from Seido KnivesFeb 2, 2026
Thank you for such a fair and thoughtful review — we really appreciate you sharing both the good and the concern.
First, we’re genuinely glad to hear you love how the knives perform and that our customer service took quick care of the first issue. That part matters a lot to us.
Regarding the loose handle, you’re absolutely right to call that out — that is not expected, and it’s not something we want anyone to feel unsure about, especially when considering future purchases. While handles are assembled using reinforced epoxy and mechanical fitting, on rare occasions a handle can loosen due to factors like internal stress during transit or environmental changes (temperature/humidity shifts). That said, having it happen twice is understandably frustrating and not the experience we want associated with our brand.
The important part:
✔️ This is not a widespread or “normal” issue, and
✔️ We will absolutely stand behind resolving it again — properly.
We strongly encourage you to reach back out to our support team with the order details for the second knife. We’ll make sure it’s addressed promptly so you can feel confident using — and ordering — our knives moving forward.
Your hesitation makes complete sense, and we truly appreciate that you still took the time to highlight what you love about the knives themselves. Feedback like this helps us tighten quality checks and improve consistency.
We hope we can earn that full 5 stars from you over time — and more importantly, your trust.

Seido does not stand behind their products
I bought the 8 piece chef set for a Christmas present. After Christmas we were using them and when cleaning I noticed a defect at the cutting edge of one of the knives. I contacted them and was informed that I had 30 days from day of delivery for returns even if it was a factory defect. This is unacceptable of any company to limit the warranty starting from delivery especially at Christmas. Seido should take care of factory defects without hassle.
Response from Seido KnivesFeb 2, 2026
We’re really sorry this was your experience, especially with a gift meant for Christmas — that’s understandably frustrating.
To clarify for anyone reading: Seido offers two separate protections, and they work differently:
• 30-Day Return Window – This applies to returns or exchanges for items that are unused or lightly used. This window starts at delivery, which is standard in e-commerce (including during holiday periods).
• Limited-Lifetime Warranty – This covers manufacturing defects, but it does not cover normal wear, edge wear, cosmetic marks from use, accidental damage, or damage discovered after extended use.
In cases like this, once a knife has been used, sharpened, or cleaned, it can be difficult to clearly determine whether a small edge issue occurred during manufacturing or during use — which is why the 30-day inspection window exists. We strongly recommend inspecting knives upon receipt (even if they are gifts) so any concerns can be addressed immediately and without hassle.
That said, we genuinely understand why this felt disappointing, and we agree that gift purchases deserve extra care. Our support team follows the same policy for all customers to keep things fair and consistent, not to dismiss concerns.

Disappointing Return Experience
I purchased a Seido knife set as a Christmas gift — a $350 set. My wife didn’t like the style, so I returned it. The box was unopened and still sealed in cellophane, exactly as received.
Even though the product was completely untouched, I was charged a 20% restocking fee, costing me $70 just to return a brand-new item. I understand policies exist, but charging a steep fee on a sealed, resellable product feels excessive and unfair.
What made it worse is that I ended up spending just a little more on a higher-quality knife set with better reviews and free returns from another brand. That made this experience feel like a penalty for simply trying Seido first.
The knives may be fine, but the return policy left a bad impression. I won’t purchase from Seido again.
Response from Seido KnivesJan 20, 2026
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We completely understand your frustration regarding the restocking fee, and we want to clarify that our 20% fee applies to returns of items that are not damaged in transit or defective, even if unopened, to help cover processing and logistics costs. We certainly don’t intend for it to feel like a penalty, but rather a standard part of ensuring fairness across all returns.
We genuinely value your input and understand how the policy may have impacted your experience. While our knives are crafted to high standards, we appreciate your perspective and will take your feedback into consideration as we continue to improve our customer experience.

I love my knives
I love my knives, they are sharp enough to shave with. I purchased the tan canvas/leather roll up bag for them and was disappointed. For $150 that bag should have real leather, not faux leather. Be better.
Response from Seido KnivesJan 20, 2026
We’re glad to hear you love your knives and their sharpness! Regarding the roll-up bag, we appreciate your feedback. The leather bag uses high-quality faux leather combined with durable canvas to provide protection, portability, and longevity. We understand the desire for genuine leather, and we’ll keep your input in mind for future product improvements.

Cheap Fake “Japanese” knives no better than plastic
We received a set of Seido knives as a gift. 10 months and a handful of uses later one of them snapped in half about an inch from the handle, so the thicker area of the knife. This happened while gently tapping the knife on the edge of a plastic bowl to get a slice of cucumber off. The cucumber stayed on, the knife broke. I was told they have a 30 day limited warranty and this isn’t covered. I was also told they design their knives for durability. Absolutely comical. After this response I reviewed other consumer reviews only to find out this is a common problem and that these purported Japanese knives are a sham. Unless you find them at a garage sale for pricing equivalent to disposable knives you’d do well to avoid this manufacturer at all costs. They will break, the company will not stand behind their cheap fake product, and you will be out your money. Ignore the canned response about how much they are sorry to hear about this. They are not. They know they are making a cheap product, thus the meager 30 day warranty. They know they have no intention of standing behind their product and hide behind CYA verbiage. My knife broke because it is a cheap defective piece of junk, that’s why it broke, not because of improper use. The wise consumer will see right through their empty disingenuous response and stay away. And advise everyone they know to stay away.
Response from Seido KnivesJan 20, 2026
We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Our knives are made using high-quality Japanese steel and traditional techniques, with careful assembly and finishing to ensure sharpness and balance. While they are “Japanese-inspired” and not manufactured in Japan, the same high-quality materials and craftsmanship standards are applied.
Regarding the knife breakage, our Limited-Lifetime Warranty covers defects in materials or craftsmanship, but it does not cover damage from accidental drops, misuse, or bending—such as tapping against a hard surface—even if done gently. We strongly recommend proper handling and maintenance to preserve the life of your knives.
We understand this can be frustrating and take all feedback seriously to improve our products. We also encourage customers to carefully follow care instructions for maximum durability.

$200 knife broke after 2 use, deceptive "japanese" branding
received as a gift. knife broke after 2 use. found out that this was a cheap chinese knife that was rebranded and sold at premium knife by a canadian "entrepreneur" Costantino “Tino” Delnero. They are deceptive in branding that makes it look like they're japanese knife on the website, but actually "Japanese influenced knife" made in china branded on their box. Their whole website is written by AI, and their responses to bad reviews are also written by AI. Live chat never responded to our message.
Response from Seido KnivesJan 20, 2026
We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate your detailed feedback. To clarify, our knives are crafted using the same high-quality Japanese steel and traditional techniques, but they are assembled outside of Japan. All materials, processes, and craftsmanship are consistent with our standards for durability and performance.
Regarding the broken knife, our Limited-Lifetime Warranty covers defects in materials and craftsmanship, but breakage due to accidental drops or misuse is unfortunately not included. We encourage all knives to be properly maintained, including careful handling and sharpening as needed, to ensure longevity.
We also want to clarify that our live chat support is available only during specific hours. Messages sent outside of these hours may not be answered immediately, but we review all inquiries and respond as quickly as possible during our active support times.
We take all customer concerns seriously and continuously strive to improve both our products and support experience.

I did not realize that I'd have to pay…
I did not realize that I'd have to pay the US duty and the knife would not arrive until after Christmas. I ordered at the beginning of November and received the knife Jan 5. Why do I have to pay a US custom when I am in Canada. In the meantime, I have consulted a knife store in my neighborhood (which I should have done in the first place) I am no longer sure that these knives are the best. Never again would I go through this.
Response from Seido KnivesJan 20, 2026
We’re sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. International orders to Canada may incur duties and taxes set by Canadian customs, which are unfortunately beyond our control. These fees are applied by the government upon entry and are standard for most imported goods.
We always strive to provide timely shipping, but customs processing can sometimes delay deliveries beyond our estimated timeframe. We understand how this impacted your holiday plans and appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve the clarity of our shipping and duty information for future customers.
We hope you’ll still enjoy your knife and the quality it offers, and we’d be happy to assist with any questions about using or maintaining it.
