Horrible credit terms for a 700+ credit…
Horrible credit terms for a 700+ credit score (9.5%) for 60 month term. No one at Parks Toyota bothered to ask my husband if adding me to the loan (800 credit score and breadwinner) would offer better credit terms. I immediately called Santander on Monday morning (after completing the sale Friday 7pm) and was told the loan was funded by Parks Toyota but when I called Santander they had no record and I was unable to stop financing. This is being reported to CFPB and I am also refinancing with my credit union for a 5% interest rate. I also explicitly stated we would not accept financing terms with a prepayment penalty and was told by the finance manager and Kyle Carter that there was no PPP but that was inaccurate as the terms show a penalty for prepaying within 6 months. I am going to pursue this aggressively as I work in the financial industry and know my rights! Shame on all of you!
Response from Santander Consumer USASep 30, 2026
Hello there! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand your concerns regarding the rate and terms of your financing. Please keep in mind that Santander establishes contract rates based on several factors, which may include the down payment, vehicle value, applicant's creditworthiness, and credit rating. The approved contract terms are provided to the applicant for review and may be accepted or declined before the agreement is finalized. Once the contract has been signed and finalized, the agreed-upon terms cannot be changed. Please also note that from the date the contract is signed, it can take approximately 30–45 days for the account to be established in our system. During that timeframe, our representatives may not yet be able to locate the account. Santander does not charge a prepayment penalty for paying off your auto loan early. However, our auto loans are simple interest contracts, which means interest accrues daily based on the outstanding principal balance. Because there is a daily per diem interest charge, the payoff amount may vary depending on the date the loan is paid in full. We appreciate you sharing your concerns and hope this information helps clarify the financing terms.
