Although Sana was different from other providers, the people behind the scenes and customer service responses exceed competition.

So many insurance companies are limiting on their in-network providers. With Sana, its as if all providers are in-network. No other insurance companies that we have worked with offer that.

I normally don’t write reviews like this, but after months of dealing with Sana, I think people need to know what they may be getting into. We started with Sana on November 1. Before switching, I had already paid approximately $8,000 toward my out-of-pocket costs with our previous health provider. Sana told us they would accept the transfer of those amounts. My new plan with Sana had a $3,500 requirement, so I thought we were good. Apparently not. I had physical therapy on November 7 and November 10, and Sana would not pay those claims because they did not show my transferred amount as being met until November 13. I had provided the paperwork to them on November 1. Why should I be responsible for claims because it took Sana until November 13 to process information they already had? Then came my surgeries in December. I started receiving bills totaling several thousand dollars from surgeons because Sana had not paid the claims. Sana told me they would investigate. It took approximately FOUR MONTHS of calls, follow-ups, and persistent nagging before Sana finally agreed to pay them. Their explanation was that the doctors had submitted the wrong codes. I contacted the doctors' billing department, and they told me they had not changed the coding. Their comment to me was basically that my persistence with Sana had finally paid off. And this isn't just my experience. Several of my doctors have told me they will no longer accept Sana because of the problems they have experienced getting claims paid. Health insurance is supposed to give you some peace of mind when you need medical care. Instead, I have spent an unbelievable amount of time chasing claims, questioning bills, calling Sana, calling doctors, and trying to get claims paid that should have been handled correctly in the first place. If I had simply trusted that Sana was handling everything and paid the bills I received, I would have been out thousands of dollars unnecessarily. My advice: BEWARE. If you are considering Sana, ask your doctors and their billing departments about their experience with Sana first. And if you already have Sana, watch every claim and every bill closely. Do not assume something was processed correctly just because Sana says it was. For me, dealing with Sana has been a pain from the get-go, and I would not choose them again.

Communication. The information from Sana was clear and timely after the fact. The prior communication from the Broker of record having the 60 day notice was lacking. Knowing the Broker received the information prior to the charge, but not us was disconcerting.

Very bad. Reps are not helpful after they close their sale, and good luck finding anywhere that will accept them. I've had them for just a few months and I've already stacked up almost $600 in medical bills from basic preventative care at one of the most widely-used medical providers in the state. Even the lowest tier insurance covers basic check-ups.

HORRIBLE. This company is an absolute scam- my hospital's billing department's word. They don't want to help you, they don't want to pay your claims. I am fighting bills from 3 years ago still. It has been a nightmare. This company is a joke.

No health coverage for our area. Was told provider was part of Sana. WVU Medicine was not part of the provider list. WVU Medicine is main provider for area.
