I don't know why our city decided to not renew the contract with the prior company but they actually worked. We now have Republic services and no one is happy with them. From weather service interruptions to strike interruptions we go weeks between services. Then it takes them weeks to get back on track. Good luck even pushing for a credit on your account on top of that. Trash workers are not highly respected by society and the job isn’t the most desirable either with low pay, low respect and less than desirable job duties. This is an essential service to society because society is no longer built to dispose of trash compared to the more organic past ways of disposing rubbish. Customer service is very friendly but it is challenging to get things fixed appropriately for billing issues, broken trash can replacements or other minor complaints. Our complex is a group service and it is challenging each time I need a new trash can because the workers keep breaking them. We paid for a higher gallon trash can and got sent a smaller one and the city refused to send us the correct size so we asked them for a credit and correct billing which was a headache in it self to fix. I use to go out of my way to appropriately sort trash but now I don’t give a f* and once organization is full I just dump it all into trash. They don’t like taking items such as batteries and other things that should go to proper disposal sites but those places started charging to take that stuff off your hands. Not only does it add up over time it feels more like a scam. Let’s make people pay to take off highly toxic items off their hands. Nope, I just trash that rubbish now. It’s getting more difficult to find free places to dispose of batteries as well. I’m not collecting batteries for 2-5 yrs to get enough to make it worth while to find a disposal site to over charge me for the “collection” process. Nope, this rubbish gets trashed now. Offer more free sites and I’ll be more apt to properly dispose of it. Please stop sending trash collection before 7 am. Not only is this in violation of noise ordinances with many neighborhoods, I’m regretting having Thurs as my late day as it prevents me from sleeping in past my normal wake up time. Your people have come in as early as 550 am and when you do that in the future I’m just calling each time. We do appreciate of the trash services but Republic could focus more on customer service. Unfortunately they’re a monopoly to disposing of trash and we don’t have many competitor options.

My girlfriend and I use Republic Services for our trash and recycling. We have been customers for quite a while. They just had a contract dispute last month and our recycling was not picked up on 07-30-2025. We called Republic about the missed pickup and were told we had to we hold onto our recycling until the nest recycling pickup in two weeks. In the meantime our recycle can is over flowing. So even though we paid extra for our recycling every two weeks and they missed our recycling date that we had already paid for they refused to make good on their agreement. I would not recommend Republic Services to anyone looking for a trash company. They will not make good on their trash pickups. Mike Blocker

I want to preface this review by saying this is entirely about Republic Services’ underhanded business practices and does not reflect on their route drivers who have generally been reliable. I know this list is long, but in three years they’ve accumulated a lot of reasons to avoid doing business with them, such as: 1. Your rates will significantly increase every year on the anniversary of setting up service, but you won’t find out until you get the "annual" invoice. 2. They claim to give you the absolute best price they can, but if you attempt cancellation they offer you a reduced rate. In other words, they are absolutely NOT giving you the best rate they can, so therefor are lying about their pricing. As an example, after my second yearly price increase they gave me a reduced rate that was lower than the first yearly price increase. 3. If you get a reduced rate you have to pay up front to get it, and if you decide to cancel anyway they revoke that reduction even if it’s a few weeks later. If you have autopay you will still be charged for the prior increased rate anyway because: 4. When you set up autopay, the minute your invoice posts your payment is “automatically approved", so if you pay your bill prior to the scheduled autopay, you get charged again anyway (see #6). This in turn becomes a credit on your account because they don’t reverse online transactions and you have to call and request a refund, which they only do by check. Also, they apply the reduced amount as the credit, not the increased charge. 5. They still charge you when they can’t pick up due to adverse weather conditions. They also still charge you if they fail to pick up under normal conditions, and it’s up to you to call and reschedule a pick up or get a credit on your account, though that takes threat of cancellation, and they will try to use the bad weather excuse whenever they can. (see #8) 6. They claim their system takes 2-3 weeks to update, so changes to your account won’t occur until then and won’t be reflected on your invoices, and things like a cancelled autopay will still be active for that period. They also claim they can’t make changes to their automated systems, which is another lie since they definitely will update invoices and contact you immediately if you owe them money. 7. They mislead, retain, and "weaponize" information in order to counter complaints and/or shirk responsibility. There’s absolutely nothing on their website regarding any of the information outlined in this list. The only way to get this info is gradually through a series of attempted issue resolutions (see #8). Or by reading this entire review LOL! 8. During calls they implement psychological manipulation tactics, primarily in two ways: Fast, unrelenting speech with constant interruptions when you are trying to talk (steamrolling), or attempted sympathy for their daily business struggles to make it seem “personal” so you forget they are a huge, faceless corporation that banks on their customers’ ignorance and/or aversions to confounding CSR encounters. Also, it should be assumed you’ll be on hold for at least 20 minutes any time you call in. Republic Services’ ethics are negligible at best. They are petty, deceitful, and it’s quite clear they have little regard for their customers. In my own experience, it took getting the Better Business Bureau involved to get things sorted out because they won’t work with you to resolve issues that negatively impact them financially and believe me, they cherish their money right down to the last penny. Thankfully, my bank and the BBB did the job Republic Services outright refused to do, and I was able to recover all funds owed to me. I hope if you made it through this entire diatribe it helps you in making your decision on whether or not to do business with them, to which I’d simply say, just don’t! The End.

It's nice when they show up but you can not depend on them to do so. For two going on three weeks now I have a full trash container on my lawn. If I decided not to 'pay rent' I would get kicked out, yet they can decide to not pick up several weeks in a row and I still have to pay??

Business Name: Republic Services Location of Business: 8145 Reichs Ford Rd, Frederick, MD 21704 Date of Incident: June–July 2025 Nature of Complaint: Unfair billing practices and refusal to provide a refund after service cancellation. Description: I was a customer of Republic Services for approximately 15 years under their “Pay As You Throw” program. In June 2025, the company sent me a notice stating this program would be discontinued as of July 1, 2025. The notice indicated that unused service stickers could be credited toward a new subscription plan, but no information was given about refunds for customers not continuing service. I called customer service multiple times before and after July 1st to request a refund for my unused stickers. Initially, I was told refunds were not available. Later I was told to call after the program officially ended. After doing so, I made two requests: A refund for my unused stickers. Removal of the company’s trash and recycling containers from my property. Despite informing them that I still had their containers (which I had cleaned and prepared for pickup), Republic Services claimed I was not listed as having them. I reiterated my request for a refund first, then pickup. Instead of a refund (that was supposed to be by the way $87), I was issued a bill totaling $66.95 for container removal ($10 for trash, $51 for recycling) and a $5.95 administrative fee. A credit of $85.50 was applied for the unused stickers, leaving a supposed account credit of $18.55. I was told these charges were for picking up their own containers, but no mention of such fees was included in their previous communications or in any agreement I signed. I consider this practice deceptive. The company imposed new fees without prior disclosure and created barriers to refunding unused services. I believe this behavior is unprofessional, unethical, and possibly in violation of consumer protection standards. Desired Outcome: A full refund for the value of my unused service stickers. A complete reversal of charges related to container pickup and administrative fees. Assurance that Republic Services will not continue to impose undisclosed fees on other customers during transitions or cancellations.

Needed a 60 day lead time to cancel when I was moving and a purchase contract to prove it. I waited 45 min on the phone to be given an email I would have to send my contract to to get approved to cancel my dumpster. I still got charged $130 per month for two extra months after canceling. Also it took them 3 years of bringing me out a new lid that actually fit the dumpster and they still never got it right. A scam of a company.

We used Gallegos Sanitation for many years with no issues. Republic bought them out and now there are issues. Changed our trash from Thursday to Friday and that is not good. Missed pickups too many times. Sometimes trash might be picked up on Saturday or it could be Monday. My trash is sitting on the street a day after our normal pickup day and it is getting late so maybe it will be picked up next week?

They will pick up a sofa, chair, washer and dryers on big trash day, but they refuse to pick up and dump a regular trash can without a lift bar that contains 2 small 15 gal white trash bags. Those bags have to be out on the ground and available for rodents or strays to rip open and spread trash all over the street. What the hell!!! If you do put out a can as I originally was told I could do by their customer service rep the day before trash pickup -the trash guy picks up my whole brand new trash can and throws it in the truck with the trash. I had to run down the trash truck to get my trash can out of the truck before the idiot crushed it. They are not a green company! I cancelled my recycle since they have shown their true colors. Oh and customer service sucks. Talked to a supervisor named Dwayne who said he would call back the next day. He never did. So customer service sucks too. Get a clue Republic. You are NOT A GREEN company and you suck at what you do. Pissed off customer!!!
